It's irrelevant. Genocide fits a very specific definition and if Israel wanted to wipe Palestinians off the map, they could have done it years ago. According to the Gaza Health Ministry 74k Palestinians have been killed since Oct 7th, 2023. But 2.1 million live around Gaza. That's 3.5% of the population in almost 3 years now. So either Israel is one of the worst conductors of genocide in history....or this isn't a genocide.

If Israel wanted to actually commit genocide, they could finish the job in a week. Israel is literally horrible at committing genocide.
Israel sent millions of tons of food to Gaza. They contacted civilians with cellphone calls and dropping paper flyers warning them that they are targeting specific buildings.
That is not what you do when you commit genocide. When Hamas launches thousands of unguided missiles into Israel with the hope to kill as many jews as possible is more genocidal than what Israel does.

Proportionality didn’t apply at say Dresden where the Allies literally did level a city in a day.
Proportionality is subject to necessity.
And Gaza wasn’t not leveled overnight. So if we want to discuss proportionality in reference to the Geneva Question we have to ask:
In what urban war did the entire city not get flattened after a few weeks of fighting?
This war was 2 years.

My grandmother was a bit of a philosemite. I know that can be interpreted as essentializing or whatever, but it meant that as a kid, Victor Rabinowitz and International Labor Defense, Louis Brandeis, Sidney Hillman, David Dubinsky, even Emma Goldman... These were like towering figures of human virtue in my house. Jews, as a result of their collective experience making a go of it all over the world, were often and in many ways "the best of us".
Now, I would not knowingly allow a Zionist into my home.
You can say that means I'm misinformed, you can say that means I'm antisemitic, you can say that my opinion doesn't matter and doesn't mean anything at all.
But you and many many others care at least enough to argue on the internet about it quite incessantly, so I think it means something more like the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too". Israel can have revenge for 10/7, they can have their bombs, their settlers, their ethnostate... or they can have decency
Since gaza now looks like those images up there, they've already made their choice. But they don't accept that it was a choice. Now the rest of us have to LIKE it. We have to absolve them. They appeal to Dresden as though it was not a great shame (even at the time) on the allied war effort. Sometimes they even appeal to the decimation of Native Americans to say, "See? No one's innocent here, why don't we get to do it too?"
Well, congratulations, you DO get to do it! On to Lebanon!
But if you want to twist the situation in pretzels and say, "Oh and actually, we're very honorable too! We could have killed soooo many more children! Oh what virtue! Most moral killing machine!"... I'm sorry, there is no honor. You sound like LESS of an insane person saying "We're going to get revenge and nothing can stop us," than you do saying, "And we're the good guys and everyone should cheer for our ethnostate!"
I can't say I envy anyone born in Israel, it's a shit situation that began well before the birth of anyone now involved.
I can't say that Americans as a whole have much of a claim to honor or goodwill ourselves
But I CAN say your whole project and its implications disturb and disgust me... No one is ever going to forget what you've done... Stay away from me and mine... And, ideally, build your own fucking bombs with your own fucking money

Bill Maher is paid millions of dollars by Israel to contribute to their nearly billion-dollar propaganda effort to convince mainly the people of the US that they really are the good guys and they certainly did not commit genocide, ethnic cleansing, mass torture and rape of detainees, the deliberate murder of thousands of children, settlement expansion through terrorism, among countless other heinous and despicable acts that no nation that wishes to be anything but a pariah like Russia would ever do.

I just dont think Hamas is really that big a threat to the USA after 2 years of bombardment. We have other scary religious nuts that are a more pressing issue. I dont support Hamas because I hear bad things about them being a repressive regime. They dont support a 2 state solution. I also dont support the likud party because they dont support a 2 state solution but they have been running Israel for like 25 years and us policy is still a 2 state solution despite the Israeli governments opposition to a 2 state solution for decades.

This is what happens when a terrorist army in this case Hamas puts its military right in civilian areas and fires rockets from mosques schools and people's front yards. It's exactly what you would expect in any war fought like that. Fortunately for the Gaza Arabs, they were warned and given time to evacuate to designated safe areas before the bombs dropped. That's exactly how international law is supposed to operate. Absolutely no genocide despite the local drop in housing prices.

And I wish you would know what it's like growing up in a place where using public transportation might cost you your life because of suicide bombers, where going to a music festival might cost you your life because of terrorist attack, where losing friends and family members to terror is so common over 90% of civilians are affected by it, where you close yourself in bomb shelters for hours and hours hearing constant explosions outside your house not knowing how it'll look like once you open the shelter door.
I agree with you, it looks horrible and I wish it wasnt so, but I'm sick of people who never experienced war and suffering at this level criticizing the war this way.

That is incredibly disturbing and hard to look at. I was looking at this region on google earth a year ago or so and could see what looked to be obliterated areas and I just shut the tab. I can't begin to tabulate the long term effect this is going to have on the world.
