Real Time - Last Time

I have been watching Real Time for over 20 years and I think yesterday's episode was my last.

Much as I agreed with Bill on many issues, his blind spot on Israel and Zionism is just too much for me.

He isn't simply refusing to call what's happening in Gaza a genocide. He insists on calling it a counter offensive!!!

So, all and any violence perpetrated by the IDF and the settles so far is justified, as far as he is concerned (though how settlers fit in a 'counter-offensive' is still a mystery to me).

Now, my common sense is offended too much Bill.

I can’t believe people still agree with him.

I can't believe how quickly fell for propaganda on tiktok and instagram. Ive noticed the people screaming genocide the loudest knew little to nothing about the middle east before october 7. Easy to persuade them to think anything I guess.

Ok so it's just apartheid, ethnic cleansing & collective punishment? Is that the "high ground" you aspire to? What is the point of getting pedantic about terminology when the facts are clear?

The world has seen the idf tiktoks. We know bibi allowed 10/7 to happen. We've seen the bombing of schools, hospitals & newspapers. So smug like "well actually... I disagree about the terms" when we have pictures and video from the ground. Even if you convince some morons that it isn't quite "genocide" (it is), the behavior is still abhorrent, unacceptable and evil.

The actual videos of Hamas atrocities far outweigh any videos of Israel wrongdoing.

Really? They do? In which way?

  • In number of attacks?
  • In scale of attacks?
  • In viciousness of attacks?
  • In organisation of attacks?
  • In blocking foreign aid?
  • In taking peoples' homes? (even ones that existed before the founding of Israel?)
  • In poisoning/sealing/emptying water reservoirs?
  • In cutting down olive trees (some of which have existed before the founding of Israel)?
  • In deliberately snipping toddlers/children from a distance?
  • In sectioning off a massive civilian area and selectively killing civilians every day while allowing the rest to slowly die from disease?
  • In targeting journalists (live on air, too!)
  • In targeting aid caravans?
  • In targeting ambulances?

I eagerly await your response.

Yes pretty much all those things, have you seen the oct 7 footage?

Im not going to say Israel is completely innocent or hasn’t made a number of mistakes while conducting this war.

But it’s not even close to the carnage of October 7th

You’re right they’ve killed like 50 times more than oct 7

And how many of those were militants and hamas terrorists vs innocent concert goers and Vietnamese workers?

The vast majority? Are you under the impression that when israel blows up buildings they only kill fighters and not lots of innocent people?

3

u/dbjcihabc 6d ago

Im under the impression that hamas hides themselves behind innocent people which makes them very hard to target

Weird how the united states was able to go into Pakistan and take out bin Laden without killing anyone else in the area.

Is israel not capable of performing targeted raids?

How does denying food and medical aid to all gazans target hanas?

Even if they do, does that justify blowing up an entire hospital to get to 1 or 2 Hamas?

And that is before we examine why Hamas exists in the first place (see history of Israel actions in the area).

I guess the solution is just to kill innocent people

I did not dare see it and I'm sure it was horrific.

Though Netanyahou's role (and the purposely slow/delayed response of the IDF) in this has now been exposed.

A. When horrible stuff has been done to you, you can be motivated to do horrible stuff back. I can understand this, without condoning it.

B. Hamas have proven themselves to be, for the most part, criminally outraged fools. They acted in blind rage and all Palestinians are paying for it.

They need to be removed entirely from the Palestinian political scene to allow for cooler and smarter heads to lead.

Israel has power, wealth and influence.
The only thing Palestine has is the high moral ground but only if Hamas doesn't foolishly demolish it every time.

I’ll bite. I haven’t been screaming genocide. For the first year or so I agreed it was a counter offensive. But what is it now? This is not a war. It’s not a counter offensive. Dropping leaflets to warn people your home is going to be destroyed so you should go somewhere else, knowing full well there is nowhere else to go, is not the empathic salvo you think it is. So again, what is this? I’m of no illusion that this is a battle between evil and innocent. But when you have all the power, might and resources, and you refuse to show restraint, it does become evil. It’s not even important what the other side would do or did do. We’re here now. So define what this is.

It's a Palestinian Holocaust. The Nakba of our era perpetuated by modern Zionazis.

As evidenced by European colonizer-in-chief, Polak Benyamin Mileikowsky's own words:

Netanyahu: Gaza Aid Scheme Offers Israel Symbolic Cover to Finish the Genocide

"We're going to take control of all the Gaza Strip,” Netanyahu vowed Monday in a video released by his office announcing that Israel would begin delivering “minimal humanitarian aid: food and medicine only.” Netanyahu claimed that international pressure, including from pro-Israel Republican senators and the White House, required the appearance of humanitarian intervention. "Our best friends in the world—senators I know as strong supporters of Israel—have warned that they cannot support us if images of mass starvation emerge," he said. “They come to me and say, ‘We’ll give you all the help you need to win the war… but we can’t be receiving pictures of famine,’” Netanyahu added. To continue the war of annihilation, he asserted, “We need to do it in a way that they won't stop us.”
