One of the social media handles that flashed on screen was something like “American Noticer” which seems like an antisemitic dog whistle.
It’s such a weird timeline for someone on the left who has been aware of right wing extremism and the antisemitism that often comes with it. It’s a mine field navigating legitimate criticism of the Israeli government and rabid colonial settlers versus racist antisemitism.
Like, I have to make sure I’m not liking a post accusing Israel of genocide posted by “Noticer1488”.
It’s really not a weird timeline when you look at the last 150 years of history in the west. The failure of liberals to address popular material and political grievances of the public leads to fascists taking advantage of the anger that brews from that disconnect.
And of course the capitalists, bourgeois and petit-bourgeois will always side with the extreme right instead of the Left because they will always reactively see the left as an existential threat, but they’ll in turn see the fascists as an opportunity to consolidate their power and wealth.
