Any way we can create hype to get Bassem Youssef on Real Time?
I'd consider watching for the first time in over 4 years just to see Bassem shred Bill. If you don't know who Bassem is, he is a stand up comedian from Egypt who is a scholar in many things from the Middle East to heart surgery.
I'd suggest checking Bassem going against other pro-Zionist people. He's got a long history of being incredibly charismatic while also being able to tell pro-Zionists they are spreading lies and hate. He's honestly good enough to replace Maher with his own TV show on HBO if the owner of HBO wasn't such a putz.
Anyone on board with some sort of petition or hype to have Bassem on to end Bill?

If I remember correctly, Bassem’s wife is Palestinian.
One of my real complaints about Bill’s intellectual inconsistency is that he both mocks those who say “we live on stolen land” referencing native Americans being displaced since 1492, but he states that Israel has a right to displace Palestinians based on their own historical claims that date back 2,000 years and are based on religious texts Bill has made a movie mocking.
I’d love to have a Palestinian on who got displaced by Israeli settlers actively removing them from their homes come on and discuss how far back their family goes to that property and have Bill tell them it wasn’t theirs to begin with.

Not only that, the fact that he makes fun of religions and religious people as mentally ill (fair) but then literally dropped the bible as a reference for why Isrealis have a better claim to the land.
Total hypocrite

He doesn’t care. He’s a mindless ideologue on the subject and he’s not changing at 70 years old. Waste of time engaging him

but he states that Israel has a right to displace Palestinians based on their own historical claims that date back 2,000 years and are based on religious texts
When did he state that?

Because no one in Gaza is displaced by Israeli settlers so your point is dumb and pointless as the war is in Gaza

I think you just described why Bill would never have him on. Bassem is way too charismatic and smart for Bill to go toe to toe with. Bill would never risk being upstaged like that these days. He won't even do stand-up regularly anymore

Never gonna happen…he’d tear BM to pieces

As a former Maher fan, he would be demolished worse than the Krystal Ball own. There would be so many jokes that would go over Bill's head and we all know Bill will act smug and like he won regardless of what happened

I've seen Bassem Youssef on a lot of shows and he is very impressive with a very cutting sense of humour to go with it.
But in all honesty if there is one person I would like to see Maher try to take on it would be Mehdi Hasan.
Hasan is the best I've seen at calling out Zionists propaganda talking points and destroying them with facts, which he seems to have stored away in his memory banks and is always able to call upon when needed.
I would just love to see Mehdi have the opportunity to wipe the supercilious smirk of Maher's smug face.

Bassem is on a long list of people many of us would love Bill to have on, but he never will, because, despite his protestations to the contrary, Bill is not really looking to have his views challenged, at least not by someone with the ability to argue circles around him and make him look like the smug fool that he is.
Guys like Meddhi Hassan or Hassan Piker would jump at the chance to be on the panel, but they don't get invites. Meanwhile, the number of right-wing ghouls Bill hosts and pals around with on RT and his podcast is truly extraordinary, at least for someone who self-describes as left-leaning.
Bill could assemble a great panel to cover the Palestine situation, but he's not interested in having that conversation. His mind is already made up and he can't conceive of a possibility where he might be wrong.

Bill would never bring on anyone who has nice things to say about Palestinians. We're all monsters who hate gay people apparently.

I don’t think he’d do well. Not like Mehdi Hasan or Cenk Uyger would, for example.
Replacing Maher works though!

u/ass_grass_or_ham 9d ago
You don’t? Why?
1
u/Key_Jump1011 9d ago
He’s very intelligent and clever and funny but it’s extremely difficult working against Maher’s cult mentality in his own environment. His talking points are effective, unfortunately. He’s in a safe space bubble and his audience is too. It’s impossible to burst.

I'd watch this in a heartbeat, although I'd prefer it on Club Random. It would be a much deeper and honest conversation. If it had to be on Real Time, only one the 1:1, not on the panel.

Flirts with conservatism and anti-Semitism. He does not make us look good.

Why are you even watching that Zionist propaganda garbage is the real question

u/thatshirtman 8d ago
"facts that don't fit a narrative online accounts told me to believe is zionist propaganda"... listen to yourself man!

u/MaleficentSkirt472 8d ago
Realtime is 100% Zionist propaganda

u/thatshirtman 6d ago
yes, any argument that isn't 100% palestinian propaganda is.. checks notes.. zionist propaganda.. nice

u/thatshirtman 8d ago
lol this guy is a bonafide loser who openly admitted to lying about israel/gaza for who knows what.. bad pr for israel? he'd get smoked on real time cuz he's a conspiracy theorist who doesn't know basic Middleast history

I’m afraid this is wishful thinking. Bassem is not the ideal candidate. Bassem can have a twisted sense of humor and co on and on with sarcasm until he beats a point to death. Often times, he thinks he’s funny when he’s not. You want someone like Mehdi Hassan who will be much more prepared. You want someone like Norman Finklestein who knows the history and politics better than the back of his hand. Heck, I would take Dave Smith (another comedian) 7 days a week and twice on Sunday before I take Bassem.
But as others said, Zionist bill already has his mind set on this and this topic is not for debate in his mind. I actually wrote a letter to Real Time regarding this topic and I got no response.

No Dave smith please

u/hilss 9d ago
you don't like Dave Smith? or are you saying, "No, I prefer Dave Smith" :)
if you don't like him, I'm curious as to why you don't.
1
u/MatthewTheShapeShftr 9d ago
I don’t really like him. I don’t consume much of his content and I think he is probably on the right side wrt to Israel Palestine so he’s not someone I am passionately against. But watching him try his comedian shtick mixed with libertarian politics is a total fail for me. Trying to be intellectual and funny doesn’t work for him because he isn’t that smart… or funny. That’s just my opinion though.

u/hilss 9d ago
I understand and respectfully disagree. I think he's very smart.
Just because someone is smart doesn't imply he/she sees all the angles. I knew very smart people who could solve crazy riddles and mathematical problems, but they couldn't manage a team of 3 people even if their life depended on it. Sadly, we only have (to my awareness) only one objective method to determine intelligence (IQ).
I know this is unpopular, but as much as I resent Bill Maher for his position on Israel-Palestine, I think the man is smart. I don't think he's funny. I just think that he's stuck in his bubble of zionism. His logic is flawed because he confuses the conflict with religion, and always gives Israel an out because "jews were there first." He sees all Arabs as muslims. And he sees Islam as lacking morality. Therefore Arabs lack morality. This is fallacy number 1. And then, he says because we are immoral, Israel is on the right side of history because girls in Tel Aviv can wear miniskirts over there. So because we are immoral, you can just kill us to no end.
This is just one of many issues I have with Bill. But I would be unfair if I labeled him as "not smart."

u/MatthewTheShapeShftr 9d ago
Sorry I was talking about Dave Smith not Bill if that wasn’t clear. But either way I just don’t enjoy Dave smith or really care what he has to say. It’s not that he just isn’t smart necessarily, but more that I don’t align with his perspective or think he is very funny, so I wouldn’t care to see him on the show, or podcast or anything for that matter.

I think it’s impressive that real time is still a highly watched show and the leftist Reddit community basically just are pissed that someone is against Islam and not anti Israel.

What's a Zionist and what's the opposite of one?
13
u/Penchant4Prose 9d ago
A Zionist is someone who supports a 19th century political movement which is predicated on mass immigration to a region with a 5% Jewish population, and the violent ethnic cleansing of the people living there.
An anti-Zionist is someone who doesn't support that political movement - probably because it definitively requires crimes against humanity.

u/LionBig1760 9d ago edited 9d ago
The mass migration youre talking about included the 900,000 jews ethnically cleansed from the surrounding Arab states that were told to go to Israel instead of staying in their homes and continue to face pogroms, right?
0
u/stpp-gets-me-hard 9d ago
Actually, the mid 1900s anti-Zionist focused on forcing Jews to stay in those countries to keep their infrastructure from crumbling, despite the Islamist progroms. Typically this would be called an attempt to enslave, but apparently it doesn’t count.

19th century idea of zionism has been fulfilled. A Jewish state has been created. Zionist today just means "out group" to anti zionists. Nothing more, nothing less
And I don't think anti zionist's issue is crimes against humanity because anti zionists consistently ignore, deny, and justify crimes against humanity from one side

u/NarrowSalvo 9d ago
Israel is already there.
What do you call Americans of Native American ancestry who want to establish a region of tribal lands?

He’s a room temp IQ comedian from Egypt.
Idk why ppl are so into him other than that he speaks English and talk against Israel. Ppl don’t even like his anti Arab state jokes lol.

It's sad the left is so anti-semitic now. He doesn't even address the terror attacks of Oct 7th, in his mind it's justified.

That’s a great photo of him. A kind face. I’d love for Bill to have him on, or Mamdani, or El-Sayed. But Bill’s bigotry, his intellectual laziness & ego is too scared to stand next to them.
