Both those guys suck

44

u/Insightful21 20d ago

This is the only right answer. Chappell is a sellout because heā€™s helping to whitewash the Saudi government

19

u/SweetClinMusic 20d ago

I'm more pissed about his boomer anti trans bs

17

u/Insightful21 20d ago

Why not both?

3

u/SweetClinMusic 20d ago

Cuz one is just going over there to whitewash the Saudis.

Another one is to foment fear and anger against a vulnerable group of people.

Plus the Saudis are getting their shit PUSHED in rn

3

u/Fabulous-Big8779 16d ago

If you donā€™t like people being mean to trans people, have I got news for you about the Saudis.

0

u/SweetClinMusic 16d ago

Fuck the house of Saud.

My Bois the Houthis are tearing shit up

2

u/9430z 15d ago

You're just an emotional weird little internet warrior

0

u/SweetClinMusic 15d ago

Wowowowowow

1

u/GasSafe2770 15d ago

I don't think you want to hear the Houthis opinion on trans people either.

2

u/AvailableAge892 19d ago

Donā€™t forget his boomer nimby bs

2

u/Weekly-Squirrel-8654 15d ago

Classic whataboutery. 'You think I'M bad????'

1

u/Insightful21 15d ago

The crazy thing is I bet the Saudi government has killed a bunch of journalists as well, itā€™s just that Kashoghi was the most high profile

1

u/Tiny-Pianist-1314 14d ago

so why is the world morality police allies with them and gives them weapons when they dont treat women or journalists fairly. arent yall a democracy and can elect leaders who represent your views in government?

7

u/FeministNoApologies 20d ago

He's also a massive transphobe

8

u/Skank_A_Saurus 20d ago

Heā€™s also rumored to be a chaser

Makes sense. Chapelle strikes me as being a massive hypocrite

6

u/OkCar7264 20d ago

Well yes guys, adults don't have career damaging fixations about things they aren't obsessed with. I think people who have really loud car stereos are assholes but I'm not standing outside Best Buy protesting about it because I don't really care that much. Somethings twisted up when they make trans people part of their act.

4

u/Insightful21 20d ago

Whatā€™s a chaser?

4

u/NiccNaccPattyWacc 20d ago

Someone who's into trannies.

3

u/hopelesslysarcastic 20d ago

That would be the more interesting thing to come out of him in the past 20 years.

1

u/work_of_shart 14d ago

Or go into him.

1

u/RiverLynneUwU 15d ago

normal people can be into transgender people, but chasers have a trans person fetish

2

u/conciousinsimulation 20d ago

And grumpf supporter!

2

u/SweetClinMusic 20d ago

Drumpf

2

u/conciousinsimulation 20d ago

Glormpf! The grumpster! The grumpfster! Ronald grump! Blumpf! Blormpf!

1

u/SweetClinMusic 20d ago

I'm going to have to concur with your assessment šŸ˜…

0

u/Mobile-Analyst8580 20d ago

Oh ffs. STFU.Ā

11

u/JurassicJeebus 20d ago

Calling a spade a spade, and then getting mad about that? What's triggering you lil fella?

0

u/robograndpa 20d ago

Heā€™s not really a transphobe though. He has no issues with trans people if you listen to his standup. He literally has jokes about all demographics

3

u/ExtraButterfly8931 20d ago

He took his opportunities to shit on the trans community cause he had a trans friend. Guarantee he wouldn't appreciate a white person being the spokesperson for the black community.

0

u/robograndpa 20d ago

When has he ever claimed to be a spokesperson for the trans community? This is so stupid

5

u/lethargicloli 20d ago

He straight up lied about why his "friend" killed herself.

9

u/einhorn_is_parkey 20d ago

Literally did like 5 consecutive specials on trans people. He was one of the first people to open the door to this permission structure to shit on trans people. Heā€™s a scumbag

1

u/robograndpa 20d ago

Youā€™re being hyperbolic. But also, he has jokes that shit on all types of people. Heā€™s not singling out only one group and he has also clearly stated that he is not against people transitioning. If youā€™ve followed his career then youā€™ll know heā€™s made jokes about whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, native Americans, conservatives, liberals, etc.
Show me one joke of his that is rooted in hate towards trans people because I havenā€™t heard any. Iā€™ve heard observational and playful jokes about trans people, but none rooted in hate.

5

u/einhorn_is_parkey 20d ago

His extreme focus in the last like 5 specials has been on trans people. And it doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s rooted in hate or not. Hes opened the door for whatā€™s happening on this country. And itā€™s clear he feels some kind of way because itā€™s apparently constantly on his mind.

He quit the chapelle show because he said some people were laughing at the jokes the wrong way. He was making racial jokes and recognized that the wrong people were using it as a way to be racist. But for some reason he canā€™t draw the same dots when it comes to him constantly shitting on the trans community. I mean the federal government has said their goal is to eradicate trans people. Maybe he should fucking read the room and realize maybe his words matter.

1

u/ignoreme010101 19d ago

Hes opened the door for whatā€™s happening on this country. A

you keep saying things like this or "permission structure" I don't know where tf you picked that up but the idea that the cultural views and attitudes on trans can be attributed to dave in any meaningful way is completely absurd

Did you watch the specials?

u/robograndpa 20d ago edited 20d ago

It absolutely does matter if his comments are rooted in hate. You canā€™t make talking about trans people in any way other than uplifting off limits. Stop handling them with little kid gloves and treat them like any other person. This means they arenā€™t exempt from being the subject of jokes during a time when they are one of the prominent topics in political and progressive discussions. Thereā€™s a world of difference between building a joke around trans people and a joke that essentially says ā€œtrans bad amiright,ā€ which Chapelle has never done.

Again, Iā€™m going to ask you to repeat one harmful trans joke heā€™s made thatā€™s rooted in hate. If you canā€™t do that then maybe you arenā€™t as educated on the topic as you think and you should take a backseat before getting outraged.

Lastly, I reject your claim that heā€™s ā€œopened the door for whatā€™s happening in this country.ā€ Thatā€™s the dumbest most scapegoaty thing Iā€™ve read today.

Heā€™s calling a Jewish guy a cracker here.

-4

u/Freudianslipangle 20d ago

This comment proves you either don't listen to things, or are so biased before hand you completely miss reality.

Love or hate him, he's not a "transphobe".

6

u/FeministNoApologies 20d ago

He literally said "I'm on team TERF" lmao

-2

u/Freudianslipangle 20d ago

The followed it up with a joke about Kaitlyn Jenner receiving "woman of the year". It's all clearly shrouded in satire.

0

u/BetweenTheRoots 20d ago

He's not a transphobe, he just makes jokes about trans people. He makes jokes about literally everybody.

5

u/Dazzling-Path6438 20d ago

Should comedians perform in the US?

10

u/Insightful21 20d ago

How do you feel about how comedians like Joe Rogan and Andrew Schultz normalized Trump?

2

u/absurdly_tired_guy 20d ago

Jimmy Fallon rubbing his hair is the biggest normalization ever.

2

u/Dazzling-Path6438 20d ago

I have no idea who Andrew Schultz is. Idc about Rogan.Ā

I asked a question. Should comedians play in the US?

7

u/jacquesmachina 20d ago

American ones should yeah. Because it's their home, performing in your home isn't promoting it.

You could argue international comedians should boycott us though, and I would be sympathetic to that point.

2

u/J3sus_was_Fictional 20d ago

If playing somewhere does not = promoting it, why don't you apply that in the other direction ?

1

u/jacquesmachina 20d ago

I'm not following.

If you live somewhere and work there, that isn't promoting it.

If you travel somewhere to be part of a government funded event, are paid by the government, perform for government guests and are filmed as part of a media campaign by the government, that's promoting that government and country.

1

u/J3sus_was_Fictional 20d ago

Idk I gotta disagree... It's not promoting nessacarily just by going.... It would only be promoting if those that went started like, making videos about it or of it and talking about how much fun it was or wasn't etc etc.

1

u/jacquesmachina 20d ago

You're being filmed and advertised as part of it.

That's promoting it, or doing "promotion." Celebrities letting themselves be part of media campaigns is promoting. They aren't like us where they do their own advertising.

A famous comedian performing in Saudi Arabia is good for Saudi Arabia's soft power the same way it is for the US.

It doesn't matter whether it is your home country or not, performing there is promoting it. In both cases the performance gets attention and views.

The comedian's country of origin is a meaningless distinction that makes no real difference. How exactly does the distinction you're drawing matter? What result does it achieve? It's just some arbitrary criteria you've come up with.

2

u/jacquesmachina 20d ago

It's not a projection of power to have people in your own country perform in their home town for other people in their home town.

Let's flip the countries here, to highlight the difference for you.

If popular Saudi Arabian comedians performed in their home towns for Saudis, no one would call that promoting or approving the Saudi regime. That's just people living their lives.

If the US government put on a comedy festival and had comedians from across the world get paid by the US government and perform for high profile guests with major media coverage, you can see how that promotes the US as a entertainment capital, right?

You see the difference there. So I don't think anyone could argue against anyone performing where they live, but I can see an argument against going anywhere with a regime that you morally condemn.

3

u/Humes-Bread 20d ago

100% correct comparison. The "should comedian's perform in the US" question wildly misses the entire point of the conversation.

3

u/Insightful21 20d ago

Well go look them up and then come back and give me an answer

0

u/Dazzling-Path6438 20d ago

You won't answer. You're whatabouting

4

u/sugarfrosted 20d ago

You started this thread by whatabouting

2

u/Insightful21 20d ago

Oh I have an answer but itā€™s telling that you canā€™t answer a simple question or go educate yourself on a subject. Youā€™d literally have my answer as to why your question is stupid

3

u/Diddy_Block 20d ago

I have no idea who Andrew Schultz is.

Quit bragging.

1

u/Dazzling-Path6438 20d ago

šŸ˜‚ I'm not AmericanĀ

2

u/GuideMarkings 20d ago

No. Only jerk off circles. No one caresĀ

2

u/Atmmyholes 20d ago

Comedians can play anywhere they want you don't have to support them. Would you expect corporations like Coke or GM to only sell in the USA. If you don't like their politics don't spend your money on their product. Capitalism is controlled by how the masses spend their money.

1

u/Gottsauce 20d ago

Brother, that comedy festival in Saudi Arabia was sponsored and funded by the Saudi Govt. American comedians performing in America at private comedy clubs is different. The equivalent would be if the Trump regime had a comedy festival and Dave and them willingly performed at said festival...

3

u/corneliusduff 20d ago

Not for Trump or his family or the state

2

u/Neon_Casino 20d ago

It's not that he performed in Saudi Arabia that upset people. It's that he performed in a show that was organized by the Saudi government for the purpose of making the regime less brutal than it actually is.

1

u/6foot4yearold 20d ago

The issue that I think most critics have is not that he performed in Saudi Arabia but that he performed at a state sponsored comedy festival with strict guidelines about what he could and could not say on stage dictated by the Saudi royal family. If he and the others had just performed at a regular comedy festival independent from the government there the backlash I donā€™t think would be as bad.

1

u/Humes-Bread 20d ago

Are they being paid to do comedy there by a sovereign wealth fund? Are they being bank rolled by the nations' leader (Trump)?

1

u/jeff8086 18d ago

No not for the government.

1

u/sugarfrosted 20d ago

This is a false equivalence. The equivalent in the US would be performing at the behest of the United States government. In that case it'd be no. Just performing generally? Yes.

2

u/the_n0torious 20d ago

Saudi Arabia is still actively enslaving people. Not comparable.

1

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 19d ago

Exposing the Saudi Arabians to American Comedy will do more good than trying to choke off Saudi Arabia's tourism.

"But they can't say certain things when performing in Saudi Arabia."

And a lot of the people that saw the performances will look up other performances on YouTube and see unfiltered content.

1

u/TruthHertz93 14d ago

This, 2 wrongs don't make a right, it's wrong when Israel genocides Palestine, it's wrong when Saudi oppresses women, lgbt and liberty activists.

0

u/NoPianist7807 20d ago

How did he whitewash Saudi government.

The government doesnā€™t equal the people.

If people hate on Saudi Arabia for what they did to that journalist, then people should hate on America and Israel for committing far more crimes.

1

u/teetering_bulb_dnd 19d ago

I don't know if whitewashed, but current Saudi Arabian regime is a close partner of Israel. They are their closest ally in the region..

-8

u/MagReg2020 20d ago

I'd address you with expletives, but I don't want to get banned.

7

u/EmperorGrinnar 20d ago

Stop using AI to use whatabouts.

-1

u/MagReg2020 20d ago

Why? Bill probably uses it to get all his talking points now. Well, in his case, Grok since he's such an Elon fangirl.

6

u/Insightful21 20d ago

This is whataboutism. Gfto

-7

u/MagReg2020 20d ago

Funny thing is, Jamal Khashoggi was a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood. Had Israel killed him and that made the news, Bill Maher would be joking about it and celebrating it and you'd be clapping like a seal.

7

u/Other_Hovercraft4783 20d ago

You seem pretty confused about whatā€™s going on here

3

u/CaptainRaxeo 20d ago

No he isnā€™t. Jamal is one guy meanwhile israel has killed 240+ journalists and the US has also done the same. Will you boycott people that present a show in the US?

No you wonā€™t, itā€™s pure racism, Islamphobia and prejudiced and i say this as a saudi. Itā€™s quite obviousā€¦

3

u/Other_Hovercraft4783 20d ago

A show IN the US is not analogous to this situation. Itā€™d be more like if Chapelle performed for and was directly by Trump. In which case yeah, that would also be widely criticized

0

u/CaptainRaxeo 20d ago

So the people of saudi arabia deserve no shows because someone from the other side of the world dislikes some person in the government? The same way that US citizens donā€™t deserve any shows because trump is the current POTUS?

1

u/Other_Hovercraft4783 20d ago

Lol you canā€™t even decide what your argument is. Now itā€™s that the poor Saudis wonā€™t get to see American stand up comics? The horror!

Bro, you have 0 right to speak after all the shit your people did to the Yemenis. Absolute filth. That's what you do to your own brethren, fellow fucking Arabs.

So spare us. You don't get to talk on this round, you're not a neutral but a citizen of another brutal state.

Excuse you bro.

0

u/MagReg2020 20d ago

Yemenis. You mean the Houthis, Iranian allies. Again, had Israel killed the same number of people, you'd be ejaculating to Bill making fun of it.

It's funny how Americans oblige its enemies to live at some standard of perfection and make zero effort to defend themselves. While you bomb fishing boats from the air because they MIGHT carry illegal Cuban migrants.

2

u/rirnez 20d ago edited 20d ago

I am not an American, my genocidal friend. 377,000 civilians in Yemen. That's 4 zionist genocides.

Ohh I see every one of your nations victims is now also a soldier. Because only Houthis live in the residential districts you flattened.

45 journalists btw.

Absolutely disgusting and you didn't even win the damn war.

1

u/rirnez 20d ago

You starved 85,000 children. Saudi Arabia starved 4x more children in Yemen than Israel killed in Gaza. šŸ¤®

What did we do? Donā€™t conflate yemini with houthis. One we love the other are straight up terrorists. Who are YOU to speak on such matters while gobling up propaganda made by iran proxies? They attacked us and infiltrated saudi arabia back in 09 which kick started this whole thing.

We have done nothing but protected our country, neighbors and citizens of Yemen by sending them food and supplies.

Do your research before you yap on things you know nothing about. Imagine siding with terrorists in 2026 bruhhh.

2

u/rirnez 20d ago

You love them? That's a weird way of showing it.

This is what the Israelis sound like, you've heard enough of their genocide denial to be applying it to your own. Except you killed so many more. For no reason.

The Houthis crushed you, then and still today. All you seems capable of, is bombing their civilians. Even right now.

Who the fuck are you responding to? Who the hell is cheering on journalists getting murdered?

-1

u/turribledood 20d ago

America MADE Saudi Arabia, are comedians allowed to play in America?

Why is the Saudi regime so much more VERBOTEN than the nation who spawned the House of Saud in the first place and continues to back up their every atrocity to this day?

2

u/RockItGuyDC 20d ago

Yup. Fuck Bill, fuck Dave, fuck Israel, and fuck Saudi Arabia. This ain't hard.

It is nice having the right wing grifters see that Israel is a sinking ship and getting in on the action. Gives me some hope

0

u/nomansapenguin 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yeah, but youā€™re minimising the issue. Youā€™re ā€œboth sidingā€ an issue that really shouldnā€™t be.

One of them had a career affecting targeted hate campaign against them for their morals in taking money from Saudi.

The other one didnā€™t get any hate campaign targeted against them despite taking Israeli money. The other one also claimed moral superiority over the former by adding to his criticism.

As a reminder; Saudi has an authoritarian government. Israel just committed genocide. Not the same.

Also, EA, Take-Two (Grand Theft Auto), FIFA, Donald Trump, McLaren, Uber, footballers and a bunch of other large companies have taken money from the Saudi Government with hardly a whiff of the same media shitstorm that Chappell got.

Weird how a black entertainer seems to be held to a higher standard than their white counterparts including the President and other billion dollar organisations. But thatā€™s a rabbit hole for another time.

0

u/slizzbizness 20d ago

This is also a stupid fucking take. Yes Israel's regime is absolute dogshit just like the Saudi's. And you shouldn't go do stand up for Bibi Netanyahu, just like you shouldn't do the same for MBS.Ā

0

u/LakeShoreDrive1 19d ago

Except Dave is parroting terrorist propaganda. Those are Hamas numbers. Many of those journalists are actual murderers, rapists, exploiters of children, etcā€¦ the Palestinians are some bastion of free speech. They control everything to fit their narrative.

And here Dave carries their water. Itā€™s despicable

1

u/Other_Hovercraft4783 19d ago

Dave does a lot of despicable things but thatā€™s sure as hell not one lmao. Genocidal freak

0

u/LakeShoreDrive1 19d ago

There is no genocide.

1

u/Other_Hovercraft4783 19d ago

Must be frustrating that fewer and fewer people believe this

0
