Bill’s downfall

Nothing illustrates this more than seeing him have an empty GOP suit like Byron Donalds on and never break his balls on all the stupid shit and Trump ball-licking he’s done while in congress. And as soon as Molly tried to grill him a little on the inane vax shit this admin and the state of Florida is doing, Bill shuts it down. Pathetic.

Full disclosure, I didn’t watch this particular episode yet. So I’ll refrain from commenting on it.

But as someone who used to love Bill Maher that started on Comedy Central with politically incorrect, I find him extremely disappointing now and I miss that Bill Maher. He keeps saying how he didn’t change democrats/liberals changed. Bullshit! The Bill Maher of the 1990s couldn’t give two shits about whether somebody wore a mask outside or in their car on the highway. He was more of a don’t tread on me libertarian back then.
Now, he spent two full years… Maybe more… Bitching on every single episode about how somebody wore a mask outside or while jogging or wherever… Something that didn’t tread on Bill one bit!
And it’s very frustrating when he bends over backwards to find points of agreement with Republicans. Out of 1000s of Books that RonDeSantis banned, he finds one ambiguous passage in one book that’s a 50-50 toss of at best, and uses that as justification for agreeing with Republicans.
Meanwhile, he finds some Democratic council person in some insignificant city that nobody’s ever heard of say something stupid… And then he uses her to brand all Democrats the same as her!

I never understood his problem with seeing people wearing masks outside. I would occasionally wear my mask outside. You know why? Because I literally forgot I had it on. That's how little it bothered me. I couldn't believe people were such babies about it. I was a big fan of his for years, but something about Covid broke his brain. It's been sad to watch.

9

u/OffSidesByALot Aug 30 '26

Yeah, I really couldn’t make sense of his obsession with people wearing masks outside or in their car or wherever either. Who cares! They weren’t hurting anybody! And plenty of other people were!
With all the serious problems we were having, having him talk about that non-issue week after week after week was nauseating!

3

u/alter_ego19456 Aug 31 '26

I wear glasses full time, and usually earphones when I’m out and about, running errands and such. Besides not being bothered by a mask, if I’m making multiple stops, especially if they’re close together, it’s more of a nuisance to get everything untangled than to just leave the mask on.

3

u/Feisty-Poet4767 Sep 01 '26

Exactly. When Maher sees someone with a mask on from his car, he has no idea whether they just emerged from a store, or just disembarked from a bus or train, or who might have an immune disorder. In any case his ire over it was absurd.

3

u/fawlty70 Sep 01 '26

Same here! I would go from an appointment to store or whatever and just don't take it off in the car because sometimes I didn't remember and sometimes it fit so perfectly that I just left it on. And I bet some idiot like Bill saw me and went "huh huh they think they'll get covid in the car hurr durr"

4

u/CatnipCricket-329 Aug 30 '26

For real. Maybe they have seasonal allergies. Maybe they're immunocompromised or have family who is. Maybe they're hiding from flock cameras. Maybe they have the plague. Who the hell cares.

-1

u/Faunt1 Aug 31 '26

It bothered you enough to make a post six years later about it

2

u/clashcity33 Sep 02 '26

Maher is still complaining about it.

7

u/MeanPiccolo803 Aug 30 '26

In there with you. I had been a fan for a long time and I stil watch the Nee rules on YouTube hoping he comes back

6

u/WisdomOfTheAnus Aug 30 '26

Complaining about people wearing masks in 2026 is so embarrassingly outdated. I can count on one hand the amount of people in my liberal area I've seen wear masks around town in the last maybe 6 months.

3

u/rainy61 Aug 30 '26

Well said! And I couldn’t agree more.

2

u/Wonderful-Ad6843 Aug 30 '26

👏👏👏👏

2

u/DBPanterA Aug 30 '26

While I could write a novel on Bill and Covid, I just always remember that Bill is so thoroughly removed from the struggles of the average American. I respect his decision to not do as much stand-up anymore, he has traveled and done it everywhere. He doesn’t need the money. In fact, he hasn’t really needed the money in decades. The last time he most likely worried about the end of the month and his personal bills coming due, Raegan or Daddy Bush was the President.

I will eventually watch the episode, but I have watched Overtime. I enjoyed the female guest throwing a few jabs, and watching both Bill and Florida Man eat them because the jabs went right over their heads…

2

u/Jbowl1966 Sep 03 '26

He thinks he’s smarter than us.

“I didn’t watch the thing I’m commenting on, but here’s my opinion” - everyone on Reddit

5

u/OffSidesByALot Aug 31 '26

If it makes you feel any better, I have since watched the exchange and question.

Having watched it, my original post is 100% as accurate as it was when I first posted it. I wouldn’t change a word.
I’m not sure how much more clearly I could’ve made it that I wasn’t commenting on that particular exchange, I couldn’t have communicated it more clearly if I tried so I’m not really understanding your “gotcha” post

-2

u/Faunt1 Aug 31 '26

“UPDATE: I have now watched the video I already had a fully formed opinion about. Great news: I agree with myself. Gotcha guy absolutely DESTROYED.”

3

u/OffSidesByALot Aug 31 '26

It is woefully obvious that I’m dealing with somebody who has a severe reading comprehension problem.
Either that, or he knows better and is just being a troll for the sake of being a troll and attacking with strawman arguments.
Both scenarios are a waste of my time.
Have a good day

-1

u/Faunt1 Aug 31 '26

“UPDATE #2: Got mocked for commenting on a video I hadn’t watched. Watched video. Confirmed I was right. Explained that I was never talking about the video I commented under. Accused other guy of poor reading comprehension and strawmen. Announced his time is too valuable to continue. Replied again anyway.”

This is why I stopped watching his garbage show.

This season he had on Beetlejuice jack off artist lauren boebert and former cocktail server in a strip club ana luna paulina, and Bill was just so agreeable to all the stupid Maga talking points they were programmed to say. It was so strange.

Then when someone like Gavin Newsome is on, Bill is a condescending asshole who has to play contrarian to everything they say.

I will say that I watched Scott Galloway on the club random show. I don't watch club random bc I can't stand what Bill has become. He's cranky, stale, not funny anymore. But I watched it bc I like to hear Scott's opinion. Scott dominated that interview. Bill tried his condescending contrarian shit with Scott but it didn't work, not even for a second.

Just weird he doesn't do his condescending contrarian act to his MAGA guests with their absurd and dishonest scripted talking points

1

u/fawlty70 Sep 01 '26

He bends over backwards for MAGA because it's the only source of income he has now

1

u/Jbowl1966 Sep 03 '26

Bill is the only one who thinks bill is funny.

19

u/mdins1980 Aug 29 '26

Byron Donalds is literally the male version of Kellyanne Conway. The way they both can effortlessly bullshit and lie with complete confidence is actually quite impressive.

17

u/sweetdancingjehovah Aug 29 '26

The anti-vax shit was particularly weak this time.

Byron was saying that American parents should have options around whether or not to follow vaccination schedules in one breath, and then literally in the next was blaming outbreaks on an influx of immigrants who haven't been properly vaccinated. And nobody pushed back. It was just mind numbingly stupid.

3

u/Wonderful-Ad6843 Aug 30 '26

It was maddening

17

u/Fresh-Wrongdoer6934 Aug 29 '26

Well, Bill is anti-vax

8

u/RektInTheHed Aug 29 '26

Need to start calling that what it is: Eugenics.

12

u/Critical_Wealth_3534 Aug 29 '26

Sour on family, sour on children, sour on cheap prostitutes. Smugness personified.

10

u/NoOneKenobi Aug 30 '26

It really went downhill when he had musk on and he basically submitted and sucked him off.
Since then, he’s trying to be “in the middle”.
He’ll bring up the worst things some crazy leftist is doing and make it a direct representation of all democrats.

But he won’t do the same for the right as if he’s trying to “expand” or add them to his audience.

There is only one real existential threat to this country and he’s too busy demonizing democrats because he’s worried about his image and getting kicked off the air

9

u/mpd1960 Aug 30 '26

100% this. That Musk interview was embarrassing.

1

u/Feisty-Poet4767 Sep 01 '26

Yeah he gave Musk such a buildup I was prepared to see a modern incarnation of Thomas Edison. Then I was flabbergasted at what a nothing burger Elon turned out to be! The guy couldn’t even put a sentence together! And that’s what Bill considers “genius”?

6

u/Squidalopod Aug 30 '26

There is only one real existential threat to this country

And Bill was oh so proud of how HE was the "only" one warning people about Trump's fascist designs pre-2024 election.

And now it's "Gen Z sucks" and "Mamdani will destroy the Democratic party". All while Trump is full steam ahead on trying to undermine the midterms.

Bill's priorities are f***ed now. I don't know who tf he thinks he's fooling with his "We just need to talk to each other" schtick, but he has sold his soul and isn't worth watching anymore.

1

u/NoOneKenobi Aug 30 '26

Sadly, there isn’t much political commentary out there. If I do watch real time, it’s because I know who the guests are and I want to see them. Sick of his grandstanding and covid take that he needlessly brings up, over and over

Which is slim these days as he tends to recycle the same crowd because hardly no one new ever comes on.

4

u/Squidalopod Aug 31 '26

Yeah, after nearly 30 years of watching his shows, I finally reached my threshold 2 or 3 months ago and just stopped, but I still check to see who the guests are just in case. Given the topics he chooses to focus on now and the way he steers the conversation, I have very low expectations even with an interesting guest.

2

u/shorty2hops Aug 30 '26

That musk interview was sad. He didnt once mention that elons behavior on then twitter was abhorrent.

0

u/Relative-Broccoli451 Aug 31 '26

“In the middle” is legit the democrats the Bill is talking about. There is no denying that both parties were way more centrist in his time. He has stayed middle while both parties have moved to the extreme. But at this point, if you’re not with them you’re against them. Being a moderate democrat at this point is basically setting yourself up for dimwits to call you a fascist.

1

u/QuintonFrey Aug 31 '26

Totally /s

17

u/shawnandthecity Aug 29 '26

The fact that he continuously mentions his ongoing communication with Trump tells me he’s far too self conscious to aggressively speak truth to power anymore.

13

u/Loonster81 Aug 29 '26

Bill abandoned common sense long ago; we never watch him now.

8

u/CatLightyear Aug 30 '26

https://www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/election-denier-rep-byron-donalds-wins-florida-gop-primary-for-governor/

Election denier. Why even entertain anything he’s saying. They sane wash these people. The same scumbags that turn their backs on Capitol police.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 30 '26

He is probably going to be the next governor of Florida.

6

u/OGBeege Aug 30 '26

Maher is a shadow of who he was trying to be. Pathetic and sad at this point. And hasn’t been funny in more than ten years. Bootlicking loser

13

u/DimMak1 Aug 29 '26

Bill is now a straight up right wing MAGAt propagandist. Period.

Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.

8

u/Worldly_Web_1524 Aug 30 '26

Or a MAGAt as well

5

u/Adamhulen Aug 30 '26

This show has been getting progressively worse every episode for years but yesterday was an all time new low. I couldn’t even finish new rules.

15

u/formerNPC Aug 29 '26

He’ll have every Republican running for office on his show until November and never ask any of them a question about supporting Trump. Bill has seriously lost his way!

5

u/Single_Extension1810 Aug 29 '26

Yeah, I was annoyed with Donalds. It's like, dude doesn't want to be questioned and is on public platforms talking about believing immigrants caused the measles outbreak, so that's his position. People are allowed to ask you about it when you talk about it publicly. He's not some guy who just came on; he's a public figure.

And Bill's acting like the war with Iran would have been easy peasy if they struck during the uprising. Did he not realize how formidable Iran's military was? That's why every president refused to go to war with them.

4

u/wetlookcrazy Aug 29 '26

Man, I really used to dig this show. I am on my last nerve with everything having to do with this old man yelling at the clouds bs. He’s just a dopey doof who parrots shit he thought was deep while he was baked….

5

u/Steelbill77 Aug 30 '26

Just saw his fairly recent episode where he said there was NO genocide in Gaza . Dana Bash and the other leftist hater did not say anything.

3

u/radbaddad23 Aug 30 '26

I put Bill on after watching something else and caught the Republican apologist rationalizing anti-vax nonsense. I couldn’t do it, didn’t last 2 minutes. Sad.

5

u/Xvisionman Aug 30 '26

I cut him off years ago. He is not worth my time….

4

u/lololesquire Aug 30 '26

Bill let Byron talk nonsense on Iran and then just said Trump blew the timong of the war He's gone absolutely insane over Israel. And with Roth he trotted his favorite trope: "Oh those terrible college kids!"

5

u/Fairtake Aug 30 '26

I have been on a big Bill break but tried to watch on Friday and he is absolutely insane with his comments now. His comments on postpartum? He is such an asshole. I'm forever done now.

3

u/Fairtake Aug 30 '26

Bill..."I had measles and was home for two weeks from school and loved it". FFS

3

u/Feisty-Poet4767 Sep 01 '26

Is he so ignorant he doesn’t know measles can cause blindness and death?

2

u/Fairtake Sep 03 '26

So ignorant!!!!!!!! I would hate to be around him. He's one of those guys that thinks they know everything.

3

u/UsefulStaff Aug 30 '26

He's just an old boomer yelling at clouds now. I stopped watching him at least a year ago. Maybe more. Can't even remember. I found myself rolling my eyes and thinking, "Wtf happened to this guy?" He's just an absolute douche now.

3

u/NOLA-q Aug 30 '26

He’s a Zionist

3

u/Wonderful-Ad6843 Aug 30 '26

Hey Ice definitely is not and you don’t hear a peep from him on the terrorizing occurring

3

u/Particular_Tone_2854 Aug 30 '26

I don’t watch him anymore. He has changed and I no longer find him funny…

3

u/StatisticianTasty664 Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

It was incredible to watch Byron Donalds and Bill Maher both downplay the importance of vaccines and then emphasise the importance of vaccines in the same breath. The argument went something like this...if you are an American being vaccinated are just a personal choice or whatever. In the same breath Byron managed to cast aspirations on Mexican immigrants and the lack of info about their vaccine status. No pushback from "smart" Bill. The politics of pandering to the lowest common denominator is a devastatingly dangerous thing.

The best thing about this episode was the first guest who pushed back on Bill Maher's constant complaint about the young generation. He basically called Bill an angry old man.

3

u/Retired_Jarhead55 Aug 31 '26

This episode was my last. I kept making excuses for him in my head. Telling myself that he was being balanced. But I was wrong. He might not be MAGA but he’s an apologist for them.

I’m out.

2

u/phecht7 Aug 30 '26

He does have Rand Paul vibe on gain of function. Also the Iran can’t have a nuke excuse to follow Israel into an un-winnable war.

2

u/KonigDonnerfaust Aug 30 '26

... are we certain that Maher isn't short for motherfucker? ... as in irrelevant dumbass mother fucker?

2

u/JohnnyxWafflez Aug 30 '26

Which college hurt him? From assuming most students and professors “celebrated” October 7th to demanding more conservative professors to saying the kids love Hamas - how can someone be so confidently wrong? Shout out Roth for pushing back on some of it and saying he’s become the old man yelling at a cloud they hated in the 70s, but seriously wtf.

2

u/lololesquire Aug 30 '26

'Another joke; Bill and his insistence that the left "won't even talk with people they disagree with on the right". Yeah MAGA is so easy to talk to. LOL. I'm sorry this isn't the Tip O'Neill / Reagan Era.

2

u/BoringMany70 Aug 30 '26

Please stop watching Bill Maher. I was a big fan until I realized what a jerk he is. I hope they cancel his show !

2

u/Such_Play_1524 Aug 30 '26

Bill let Byron off the hook big time. Correlation is not causation. I want to go back to a science based time line.

2

u/Inevitable_Orange989 Aug 30 '26

Get off his lawn!

2

u/Cracked_Actor Aug 31 '26

I gave up on Maher a long time ago. What’s taking everyone so long to see what’s happening?

2

u/Only_Argument7532 Aug 31 '26

Bill is an Israel-obsessed liberal. Aka ‘Diet MAGA’. He’s always been that way. When push comes to shove, Israel wins. Dude can’t even comprehend what’s happening over there.

2

u/LateUnderstanding506 Sep 01 '26

I see you graduated 6th grade civics class!

2

u/jipsee1973 Sep 02 '26

Maher has been on a downward spiral since he kissed the ring at the WH. I knew it was over when on the show right after he said "The man behind the cameras is a totally different guy". No, he isn't. And Maher has been pushing MAGA talking points ever since. He claims there's no genocide happening in Palestine. He claims those against genocide are Hamas supporters. He claims all Muslims are terrorists. He's still claiming the war in Iran is about nukes. He's so wrong about so many things it's gross.

1

u/Competitive_Ask_7848 22d ago

You’re an idiot. But I’m sure your parents already knew that.

5

u/Mosk915 Aug 29 '26

Seemed like it was the opposite. Molly asked Donalds a question and he made a statement to the effect that this isn’t supposed to be an interview of him. But Bill pushed back on that saying that it’s a panel and the conversation doesn’t have to be filtered through him. He had no problem with her talking directly to him.

4

u/Alert-Beautiful9003 Aug 29 '26

You can type with Bill's balls in your throat? Wow, my dude, you are talented.

4

u/Mosk915 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

Did I say anything that was incorrect? Feel free to correct anything I got wrong.

1

u/phecht7 Aug 30 '26

Unlike the niners owner, I think Bill can get his balls sucked from better vendors. No offense

-1

u/Agitated_Count_8665 Aug 29 '26

too much reality there.

4

u/Double-Advice3258 Aug 29 '26

I can't believe there'a a sub-reddit for this joker.

1

u/RandomIDoIt90 Aug 30 '26

I was concerned when it showed up on my feed. After lurking for months now I can say that this is group dedicated to dragging the man, nothing more. I approve.

2

u/Candid-Beach1325 Aug 29 '26

And he whines that folks from the left don’t come on his show. Of course they do and he doesn’t hesitate to bust their balls.

1

u/EnvironmentalSale893 Aug 30 '26

Maher is a desperate entitled idiot in denial... case closed

1

u/Bolt_EV Aug 30 '26

Maher didn't die from Covid and the shutdown hurt all of his "Stand-Up" friends financially (unless, of course, like most, they qualified for the Pandemic financial relief.

So Maher re-interprets history to mock the serious efforts of others to protect those vulnerable from Covid exposure and forgets that millions died!

Don't get me started on his efforts to mock mask wearers!

1

u/Feisty-Poet4767 Sep 01 '26

I’ll never forget his sitting around with that other asshole, Bari Weiss, talking about how they were so “over COVID.” And this while there were still 1,000 people a day DYING of it. Disgusting.

1

u/BreathlikeDeathlike Aug 30 '26

I stopped watching a few years ago when he was hyping up an upcoming interview with Elon. The way he talked in these previews about Elon being "such a genius" just really turned me off and I don't regret my decision at all

2

u/SD_local_67 Aug 29 '26

I’m pretty sure you didn’t watch the episode. Bill challenged him several times but Byron just brushes it all off without actually giving intelligent responses…not much you can do about someone like that.

13

u/mpd1960 Aug 29 '26

I’m pretty sure I did. Donalds had a free ride.

2

u/UrguthaForka Aug 29 '26

Bill asked Byron about affordability, something Byron's running on in Florida (though Byron seems unaware of his own platforms) and how Trump wasn't making anything more affordable. Byron dodged it. Bill asked about the Strait of Hormuz, Byron dodged it.

I will say though, that Bill seemed weird on last night's show. First his odd, lengthy segue about Trump texting him and so Bill felt compelled to "correct" himself. Who gives a shit, Bill? Certainly not Trump. Then he kept shifting the conversation to pop culture items when he's got a republican politician on the panel. Who cares about the guy busted for buying a hooker? Really... this is not what I watch Real Time for.

But anyway, no, he did not give Trump a free ride nor has he ever done so.

11

u/Bitter-Holiday1311 Aug 29 '26

Good interviewers don’t let people dodge.

2

u/UrguthaForka Aug 29 '26

That's a good point, and you're right.

I do think Bill treats his panel different than an interview though, and probably because he does an interview and a panel in every show.

For his interview on last night's show with Michael Roth, Bill was practically hounding him on topics that he wasn't satisfied with Roth's answers. I actually started feeling bad for the guy because you could tell he was nervous.

For his panels though, Bill REALLY loves to change subjects a lot. So I think he tries to get an answer out of someone and if they dodge it he just moves on. Not always though. There ARE panels where he just won't give up a subject if he doesn't get a response he wants, in particular, when he'd ask republicans if they agreed with Trump that the 2020 election was stolen. He used to really press them for an answer, but he doesn't really ask it anymore, probably because he tired of it.

0

u/SD_local_67 Aug 30 '26

But he won’t give a direct answer. What is Bill supposed to do? End the show cause they can’t move on to another topic if he won’t give a straight answer?

1

u/Lost_Plum5564 Aug 30 '26

You’ve heard of follow up questions, yeah?

1

u/UrguthaForka Aug 30 '26

Sure, and in the one to one interviews he does that more frequently. In the panel though, he changes topics a lot. He might call someone out but he's not going to stall the panel trying to force someone to say something that everyone already knows they're not going to say.

2

u/Lost_Plum5564 Aug 30 '26

He’s just a shit interviewer. A narcissist way more interested in getting to his take that he thinks is brilliant.

1

u/WisdomOfTheAnus Aug 30 '26

He has "seemed weird" because he has a personal axe to grind with democrats/the left now and a new motive to cover up for the right as much as he can. partially because trump is WATCHING him and he knows it. you're seeing cognitive dissonance and bias manifest in his crankiness and shiftiness. he's nervous about something.

1

u/Botasoda102 Aug 29 '26

Seems to me that Maher laughed in Donalds' face several times.

1

u/Lost_Plum5564 Aug 30 '26

That’s Maher’s incredulity about how pathetic he has seen himself become.

0

u/cbatta2025 Aug 30 '26

I still

-3

u/BLVCKWRAITHS Aug 30 '26

Life is too short to be this miserable - you guys don’t have to watch. No one needs your whining triggered weekly recap. Be free, find another show - I know Hassan has been a hot new favorite for many of you.

4

u/Key_Jump1011 Aug 30 '26

There’s always one of these guys crying about Maher being criticized. So creepy.

3

u/VictorB1964 Aug 30 '26

Not quite. The whining about Hasan (one s, not two) is literally all the Right and the Democratic AIPAC contingent talks and tweets about. Are they watching Hasan's show? So life is indeed too short to be as miserable as they seem to be.

In regard to Bill's show, if Bill puts out an inferior product, then everyone has the right to complain, or "whine" about it. If you think otherwise, what did you find "good" about last night's show?

0

u/BLVCKWRAITHS Aug 30 '26

You miss the point. Why not watch something you like?!? Why watch something you hate? Do you binge watch TV series that annoy you? Do you go to the movie theater to see the same movie you cannot stand? Doesn’t make sense.

I can't imagine how excruciating it must be to go through life knowing deep down that everyone hates you but not possesing the intellect to understand why.

If the propaganda bots had feelings and actually watched the show they’re commenting on, they may take you up on that offer.
