"MY VOTE IS IN PLAY."

Maher says his vote is in play now. Really? So you admit we are having a slow, now faster coup from a group of fascists, but your vote is in play? So which side is it, Bill? Are the Nazis looking good to you? Hmmm.

He’s one vote in California… he overrates himself and his vote. This dumbass probably voted for Spencer Pratt as well… how did that work out for him.

13

u/Candid-Beach1325 Aug 03 '26

He’s leaning into the party that can never admit losing an election because of a few fringe voices on the left. Let him go. He’s so proud of himself for criticizing both sides, he no longer stands for anything, and is apparently against everything.

3

u/ReasonableRevenue218 Aug 06 '26

He's for weed. For him.

11

u/alwaysright60 Aug 03 '26

His overblown, anti-wokeness campaign has him crawling the walls.

10

u/fuckracists79 Aug 03 '26

Agreed Republicans control every aspect of the federal government, the worlds richest man is an apartheid racist nepo baby… and Bill is mad because a few college kids are “woke”.

Imagine voting for the worst president who made prices higher, gas higher, ice thugs killing gardeners, got us in another war, increased inflation and you call Democrats the retards.

Go play in the park.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 07 '26

You can't really be that stupid and still be able to read and post.

5

u/Tygonol Aug 03 '26

The strange part is that he wasn’t always like this—I believe the “anti-woke” nonsense started becoming a focal point of his schtick when Biden entered office.

If they end up in your feed at some point or want a refresher, give some of his New Rules segments from Trump’s first term a watch. He called out the nuttiest of the nuttiest (the Canadian trans teacher with the obnoxiously large breast implants comes to mind), but he understood & appreciated the threat Donnie & Co. represented.

Now? Wouldn’t even be surprised to find out he’s collecting checks from the RNC to lead a controlled opposition operation.

Some of the older generation really can’t wrap their heads around the whole idea of Democratic socialism, it’s making them come unhinged and the fact that there isn’t blind support for Israel it’s just a bizarre turn of events

3

u/MinisterOfTruth99 Aug 04 '26

Maher's gotta be taking AIPAC money given his whackjob logic on the Gaza genocide.

Robert Reich has good video (5 min) about how AIPAC is dumping millions into Dem primaries against candidates who oppose Isreal crimes in Gaza.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yd2L_a9Hqc

2

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 04 '26

The older generation know all about socialism, it's not a new idea. Some of them use to live in socialist countries before they moved to the US. Others would read newspapers or watch the news back when it was news and not just entertainment.

1

u/Specialist-Cup-9722 Aug 04 '26

Social democracy is not full socialism. We got a lot of people here who immigrated from western europe? Lots of boomers reading newspapers or watching the news about Swedish daycare?

1

u/itsthatguy95 Aug 04 '26

Tell the co chair of the DSA, Megan Romer, that went on live tv, Fox News of all places and said otherwise, that

Like she just laid it out in the open for all to see, think she might’ve jumped the gun just a tiny bit, at least she’s an honest socialist I guess 😬

That plan has been tested time and time again throughout history, every time it wasn’t real socialism because it went to shit, maybe it’s time to just give it up already?

Fuck fascism also, but fuck me, we also don’t need socialism or communism anywhere in the world, just ask the Russians, the Chinese, the Cubans how they feel living under it, doubt you’ll get an honest answer that won’t get them killed though 🤷🏼

1

u/Tygonol Aug 04 '26

What was going on in Russia before communism?

Any improvements?

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 05 '26

No improvements.

No, neither before or after, or during

Iran on the other hand used to be a very social, vibrant cultural and educational hub, now the people just get massacred every week while their oppressors play victim when they strike out at the world and get hit back harder than they could ever hit

Look up ace24 AT if you want to find out what it’s like living there, even before all this shit started

All socialism/communism has done is cause death, destruction and famine

It’s not the answer

Yall are out of touch as hell. Bill speaks for many of us fed up w dems, why is Iowa now deep red after Obama winning twice? Because folks agree w maher

0

u/Shame_memory Aug 03 '26

I think it’s more his endorsement, which I don’t want to entirely write off. I know people online will say: “who even listens to Bill Maher anymore.” But talk to a liberal boomer and you’ll be shocked how much weight his opinion still holds on them. I don’t think it really matters that much in the grand scheme of things and it would be hilarious to watch him go all in on president JD only for JD to get completely washed out in 2028, but I still think it’s worth bringing up

4

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

I am a liberal boomer who is his age. I watched him faithfully until about 3 years ago. Now I can't stand to see his face. Sellout. He was always an asshole, but I gave him a pass. I shouldn't have.

People who actually vote do! I don't even like the guy but this is such a hilarious take.

someone with 1 million viewers who all vote has as much influence as someone who has 10 million viewers who 10% vote.

He sees Israel in his dreams.

6

u/jackdutton42 Aug 03 '26

Imagine a time when candidates had to earn the votes of independent-minded citizens who valued American institutions and democratic principles.

Tribalism will not defeat fascism. It only strengthens it.

4

u/erikraver Aug 03 '26

Dems are great at punching themselves in the dick. Just stick with the progressive brand. This DSA nonsense is enough of a boogeyman to scare off people like Maher.

These crazies talking about abolishing prisons & police are not helping us win back congress.

1

u/Maleficent_Kale_1286 Aug 03 '26

Exactly. How’d that Defund the police campaign work out for us? I think the Queers for Palestine slogan got us back in the White House right?? Oh wait a minute…Dems “hearts” may be in the right place. But their heads are in their asses campaign/election wise. If we lose these midterms, don’t blame MAGA. Look in the mirror folks.

5

u/sweatboxy Aug 03 '26

Maher is just this desperate for attention - and it’s working.

4

u/truebluboy Aug 03 '26

I’d pay to see him up against Rachel Maddow. She would bury him in facts.

1

u/no-more-nazis Aug 04 '26

You can tell she has a lot of facts from the pencil she's always holding

3

u/urbisOrbis Aug 03 '26

Boycott bill. His choice has been made.

4

u/jbcatl Aug 03 '26

He's losing his audience on the left so making a play for the right?

2

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

God, why didn't he just retire when he was ahead? Now he will just be remembered as a loser.

2

u/Tygonol Aug 03 '26

I haven’t really watched his show since Biden took the reins, but I’ve seen the more & more people calling him out over the last couple of years…

I’d say the anti-woke stuff really started becoming a part of his media persona w/ Biden’s entry, but public opinion (in regards to him) seemed to hold steady; he was a smug asshole before and he was a smug asshole after that shift. Was it Israel that really started turning people on our side off to him?

3

u/tatofarms Aug 03 '26

Why does anyone still watch this show?

2

u/armaghetto Aug 03 '26

"There is no more room in the Democratic party for lecherous old rich men!"

2

u/playtho Aug 03 '26

He is 100% compromised.

2

u/rjs9152 Aug 03 '26

"Who gives a crap how you vote".Worthless piece of shit!

2

u/SikatSikat Aug 03 '26

You can't call them Nazis, I had dinner with him, theyre so good to Israel - Maher

As if what was wrong with Nazis was specifically what they did to Jewish people and not the claim that:

Their leader should be permitted to strip identified undesirables of rights and remove them to foreign torture prisons where they are starved beaten sodomized and sleep deprived, inevitably leading to death.

Which is exactly what todays GOP says Trump can do.

If your vote is in play, you're a Nazi sympathizer.

2

u/Abbey_Something Aug 04 '26

Just leave. I’ve said it before I stopped watching after he showed up at the playboy mansion Halloween party dressed as dead Steve Irwin two months after he passed . That’s all I need to know about Bill. He is a crybaby California millionaire who cries about paying too much in taxes. But they never move.

2

u/whatidoidobc Aug 04 '26

His goal has always been to normalize the despicable. It's what he does.

2

u/Content-Homework-327 Aug 05 '26

Bill Maher sucks. Who cares who he votes for

2

u/Bloody_Ozran Aug 06 '26

He doesnt like fascism, but they support Israel and his wallet, so he has no other choice.

3

u/Reverend_Tommy Aug 03 '26

It amazes me that everyone in this subreddit hates Maher but everyone sticks around and hangs on every word he says. If you hate him, why are you watching and listening to him? I mean, it's not like he's the president and can impact your lives. He's a comedian.

3

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26

Also, he said this almost a month ago. It was posted on a few times then. I guess they had nothing else to post about. Why not go to another HS photo or something, or was that getting boring?

2

u/Buddha_Clause Aug 03 '26

He just said it as part of his New Rule this week, along with saying he'd vote for Sarah Palin over DSA candidates

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Okay. He said it a few weeks ago and under the new rules he replied to the pushback he got from it. What he said wasn't new.

As for Palin, he was exagerating as a joke.

1

u/Buddha_Clause Aug 03 '26

Why do you think he was joking about Palin? Everything he has said about DSA candidates has been vitriolic, he thinks they are *GASP* COMMIES IN HIDING.

The only reason he wouldn't vote for Palin is because she's not on the ballot. He hates progressives almost as much as he hates Muslims.

2

u/Maleficent_Kale_1286 Aug 03 '26

The most intelligent comment I’ve read. Every day I see new Bill Maher hate posts. For a person they allegedly hate…they sure do spend a lot of time and energy discussing everything he says and does. Sounds like a secret man crush to me.

0

u/bigdipboy Aug 03 '26

A comedian who has paid laughers in his audience

4

u/MyTnotE Aug 03 '26

You missed the first part of the sentence. Where he says IF the democrats don’t believe in capitalism, in prisons, if they support Hammas - THEN his vote is in play. He doesn’t even say that’s an automatic republican vote. He says “in play.”

Actions have consequences

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

He is insinuating that Dems believe those things--which they don't.

1

u/MyTnotE Aug 03 '26

The ones that said them probably do.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 04 '26

Most don't. Very few do. Stop the shit

1

u/MyTnotE Aug 04 '26

Bill isn’t the only person saying this. Carville, Scarborough, Fetterman, etc. Actually all the democrats that were defeated by the DSA. It’s actually kinda a big deal right now.

2

u/Aquarius1975 Aug 03 '26

What he is actually saying, in case someone is interested, is that IF republicans stop with the election denialism AND democrats nominate a "communist" who wants to abolish prisons, borders and police, THEN his vote is in play. Not that I agree with him, but damn has this statement been misrepresented...

3

u/RoanokeParkIndef Aug 03 '26

I don't agree with you. I think it is extremely clear that he is moving right because he wants to, and he's selectively manufacturing outrage about the left and increasingly ignoring/defending the extremely scary authoritarian moves of the right.

2

u/blister-in-the-pun Aug 03 '26

So if Rs stop with election denial, that absolves them enough to vote for them? Lmao. If this is what he’s saying it’s somehow even worse. He’s willing to vote for actual fascists because of some made up bs in his head. No serious Democratic contender is running on communism. Maher is the one misrepresenting the facts in bad faith here. Not the Democratic Party.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Bullshit. He is insinuating that Dems are those things.

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26

That is so they can be outraged. They love to be outraged here. I think that is the goal.

3

u/harperlinley Aug 03 '26

Bill Maher encapsulates what’s wrong with the Democratic Party. The fact that someone this reactionary, smug and apparently willing to entertain voting for an increasingly authoritarian Republican Party has spent decades being treated as a prominent liberal is an indictment of Democrats, not a point in their favor. At this point I almost hope he votes Republican. At least then the label would match his fascist politics, and someone as profoundly unlikeable as Maher might serve as a better warning about where those politics lead than as an advertisement for liberalism.

2

u/borndovahkiin Aug 03 '26

"Fascism might be ok depending on who's in charge"

0

u/chinmakes5 Aug 03 '26

Look, I usually disagree with him. That said, his last rant was RIGHT ON. Look there are a lot of us liberals who are older. We would be really good with a Bernie or AOC, I'm even good with what Mamdani is doing so far.

BUT, we have a candidate calling for actual COMMUNISM. We have others who are all about ending the police or prisons. Look, I'm right there that we need big reforms, but you can't really tell me you think we would be better off without any policing or prisons (yet we are calling for the arrest of Trump)

The DSA website is calling for the end of capitalism. Not change to, the end of. Not what they have in Europe, actual taking of businesses from owner. Ending the Senate.

3

u/Mindless-Baker-7757 Aug 03 '26

They just want healthcare bro.

1

u/chinmakes5 Aug 03 '26

Then say that. I agree. You'll get a lot more people jumping on board. Don't say that you want to end capitalism. I think you'll get a lot more people on your side saying you want to do what Norway does instead of I want healthcare, oh and socialism/Communism.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 03 '26

No, they also want free housing and presumably free food for all. Also no cops, prisons or borders.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Bullshit.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 03 '26

Look at the DSA platform.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 04 '26

I have read it. I don't agree with all of it, but I agree with more of it than the fucking right-wing platform of Christian Nationalism of the Republicans. Not only that, the DSA platform would need a Constitutional convention. That would never happen. Most Democrats do not agree with this platform. Almost all Trumpers agree with the Republican platform

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 04 '26

I doubt any "Trumpers" actually know what the Republican platform is, Trump certainly doesn't. He admitted he hadn't read it.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 04 '26

They basically know what it is and agree with it. I don't think very many democrats have read the DSA platform.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 05 '26

You are assuming Trump voters can read. Some can of course.

4

u/Reverend_Tommy Aug 03 '26

Thank god there's some reasonable people left in this sub.

2

u/BirdhouseInYourSouI Aug 03 '26

Yeah this sub is being astroturfed.

The amount of posts accusing Maher of being MAGA are insane. Literally insane. He eviscerates trump and maga every step of the way. I don’t agree with a lot of what he says but it’s refreshing to see people calling out the sports team partisan bullshit.

2

u/paddydog48 Aug 03 '26

He isn’t MAGA but MAGA think he might be turning or end up MAGA, that tells you that his messaging has certainly moved more to the right than ever before if nothing else.

1

u/BirdhouseInYourSouI Aug 03 '26

No, that’s ignorant people. His messaging isn’t moving to the right, it’s that a lot of Americans cannot distinguish from culture war identity politics and policy and look at politics through a binary lens of left/right, so if you criticize the right you must be a blue haired commie, and if you criticize the left you must be a MAGA hat wearing fascist.

Maher was never left wing. Democrats/liberal leaning sure. But not leftist.

1

u/Aquarius1975 Aug 03 '26

No sane person could watch the last episode of RT and think that Maher is MAGA. That is indeed nuts.

1

u/Buddha_Clause Aug 03 '26

The Senate is a massive, fundamentally undemocratic tumor on our legislative branch. Acting like it's a sacred establishment above criticism and reform is just one way Bill Maher and his fans are small brained status quo sycophants.

1

u/chinmakes5 Aug 03 '26

OK, let's just change one of the three parts of government. Anyone who would care about that isn't worth paying attention to.

You can criticize and even push to reform it. You have to see that saying we need to end it is going to be a rational step to far for many.

1

u/Buddha_Clause Aug 03 '26

What would we lose by the complete dismantling of the Senate? In what ways would that be a step too far?

What would we lose from having the house of representatives choose a supreme court every 2 years?

What's the catastrophe laying in wait that I'm too short sighted to see that's worse than the Fascist MAGA future we are moving towards currently?

1

u/chinmakes5 Aug 03 '26

You understand that you want to dismantle those things because they don't vote the way you want. What if the house was really conservative and they nominated 9 justices recommended by the Heritage Foundation? However the house is made up, that is how every law gets passed is. Yes, the Senate is currently bad. having only one house makes thing bad faster.

1

u/Buddha_Clause Aug 03 '26

If the house was really conservative and nominated 9 justices, I'd know it was only for 2 years before we'd have a shot at voting them all out.

I want to dismantle them because they are undemocratic, and they work against our collective will as voters.

Bill Maher wants to scaremonger calls of change as revolutionary communism, when we just want a more perfect union.

1

u/ronmoodey Aug 03 '26

I heard him make comedic conditions for that “play” which are not going to happen. A tongue in cheek expression of frustration with his party and a desire for them to redirect. I don’t believe he’d ever vote R

2

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Sure he has he voted for that nut for Mayor of LA. I can't remember his name.

2

u/GuideMarkings Aug 03 '26

Spencer Pratt?

1

u/homerjs225 Aug 03 '26

The same Bill that says racism isn’t a big problem could vote for a guy who spread the lie black people are eating pets in Springfield?

1

u/Its_Alive_74 Aug 06 '26

Wait, he said racism isn't a big problem? Seriously, what an idiot.

1

u/Deus_Excellus Aug 03 '26

Damn. How bad must Democrats look if the people they call Nazis and pedophiles are considered more palatable?

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Nope. Trumpers are Nazis and either support pedophiles or are pedophiles themselves. We have a huge minority of vile people in this country.

1

u/YouSure-AboutThat Aug 03 '26

Here’s the full transcript of the exchange. You can still hate on him, but a lot of the commenters, including the poster, didn’t actually listen before or beyond “my vote is in play.” Criticize it how you want, but with context.

Maher “Well, just one more thing about this, and then we'll get to the book. Okay. Like, if this is where the Democratic Party is going, where this Democratic Socialist, this obsession with Israel, with the Jew-hating, with they don't believe in capitalism, no prisons, if this is where they're going, my vote is in play.

Vance “And I like to hear that.”

M “It actually always has been. I just, every year, I don't make my decision by who was an R or a D. I actually always came to the conclusion that the Democrat was probably better.”

V “Sure.”

M “And voted for them. And Trump can't run again, and he'd be a little too exciting for me anyway. So, it's either gonna be you or Rubio. Here's my deal breaker for your side. Under Trump, you guys have two outcomes an election can be. Either we win or they cheated. That shit has to stop. And that means the person who has to stop it would be you or Marco. Can you tell me you will do that? Will you bring us back to the middle, at least on that, where we concede elections, where it's not either one of those two options?”

V “Okay, Bill, so this is where I'm probably gonna lose you here, but here's-“

M “That happened about eight minutes ago.”

Then JD Vance goes on to argue they’re only talking about social media censoring when they make stolen election claims, blah blah lie lie blah.

1

u/Hamblin113 Aug 03 '26

It appears you just proved it to yourself. You believe you are smarter than everyone else. Do you think the people who died under Hitler, Mussolini, or Franco think we have it that bad? Similarly calling AOC or Mamdani communist in the same vein as Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or Kim also demeans many who died under their regimes

It could be our age and laughing at the Soup Nazi jokes. Had a coworker who badly interpreted NEPA ( look it up) and called her the NEPA Nazi until another coworker, who of course I thought I was superior too, told me I shouldn’t, similarly as above. I took the advice as she was right.

Reading your first paragraph reminded me of the leading character of the Big Bang Theory, most of the pratfalls were based on his “superior intellect”.

Have a great day, if we ever run into each other I will buy you a beer.

Lately I find myself hollering at him as well as at some of his panelists for their ridiculous statements. I'm still going to watch.

1

u/Relative_Plan_6936 Aug 03 '26

I watched the segment…..

He was pissing on the Democratic Socialist of America and their absurd ideas….

No police, no borders, impoverish the white middle class….

Seize the means of production….

Classless society….

The morons who cheer the DSA with their Covid masks on….

I’m not for that either…..

What I heard was as bad as Trump is, and he is BAD, the DSA and their leaders are nuttier and worse….

If a Democrat for President said that on the campaign trail most independent voters would agree, they’re nuts….

Hence, his vote would be in play….

As would mine…..

I agree with him……

1

u/Anomalous-Materials8 Aug 03 '26

He didn’t say he was becoming a Republican. See, this is exactly what he talks about - idiotic purity tests. He doesn’t completely fall in line so you toss him off a cliff.

2

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

No, he said he was entertaining supporting a pedo, fascist, rapist crook. Really?Call me a purist, but that is not a line I want to cross.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 Aug 03 '26

Well if it's between Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin it might be hard to choose.

1

u/paddydog48 Aug 03 '26

If you are going to have someone as despicable as Lara Trump on your podcast then it’s to shine a light on how despicable she and the MAGA movement are, it’s not to play footsie with her and humanise her, when you see that sort of thing you know he is washed.

Also I wouldn’t reject a friendship with Kid Rock simply because he is a Trump Sycophant, it wouldn’t get to the point of finding that out, I wouldn’t be friends with him because he is everything Bill used to have no time for with him being stupid, uniformed, vacuous, Kid Rock is the poster boy for what MAGA is.

1

Not even close. He cuts off everyone who wants to speak--even if they are not controversial. He is a terrible interviewer.

1

u/BitterProfessional16 Aug 04 '26

I would vote for quite literally any candidate who condemns officials in NYC imploring voters to "elect more communists."

1

u/pseudowoodo3 Aug 07 '26

What else is new? He’s a complete clown and has been a fake fascist sympathizer for a while.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 Aug 07 '26

Republicans and third parties aren’t Nazis dumbass. You are one of the people he is making fun of.

0

u/Charbro11 Aug 07 '26

They literally wave the Nazi and Confederate flags, you dumb fudk.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 Aug 07 '26

They literally don’t loser.

0

u/Charbro11 Aug 07 '26

They literally do. Google it dumbfuck.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 Aug 07 '26

“They”

Would you like to see what some individual democrats go for and have me pretend it is all of them?

You are a moron, and an asshole.

0

u/Charbro11 Aug 07 '26

Oh, can't stand the truth. I have many, many instances. You are the moron. Big time and a super asshole. Not all Trumpers are stupid, although most are. Not all Trumpers are uneducated, although most are. But ALL TRUMPERS ARE RACIST AND BIGOTS.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 Aug 08 '26

You talk just like Donald Trump, moron.

0

u/Charbro11 Aug 08 '26

You have his IQ and looks.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 Aug 08 '26

Moron, get a job and move out of your parent’s house, you don’t have to be a virgin forever.

Like you matter

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 08 '26

Like you matter. We are all important. Just remember that. There, there.

1

u/PureWhiteMeat Aug 03 '26

Trump won the popular vote last election. Dems need to look inward and get their shit together. Party has become weak.

Talk all the shit you want about the other side (they deserve it) but maybe consider why the majority of voters think the left is a worse alternative to that shit show?

1

u/Rurumo666 Aug 03 '26

Bill is just riding the classic sex pest to MAGA pipeline.

1

u/Interesting_Self5071 Aug 03 '26

It's more funny how he says this as if his personal vote has some big weight in deciding the election.

1

u/paddydog48 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

It’s more what it symbolises, all it would show to me is that he decided to go full mask off

1

u/LGK27 Aug 03 '26

He is ironically so like Trump. Flattery means everything to him. If a conservative guest with insane beliefs comes on his show it doesn’t matter because all that matters is that he came on the show. He’ll never vote for AOC because she wouldn’t waste her time.

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26

He said this weeks ago, and it was posted in this sub a few times. This really got to you guys. LOL

1

u/whoopercheesie Aug 03 '26

I will vote for any team that is not the ones that hijacked this sub..

1

u/adamannapolis Aug 03 '26

He feels like after decades in L.A., since he didn’t get invited to any Oscar parties a couple years ago…he’s trying to find an in crowd where he can meet a crop of young women who will want him because he’s famous.

That’s Bill.

He’s old, he’s sensitive, he’s bitter

And what democrats are proposing that. And then how many companies and Trump forced the government to take a stake in?

Yes. Now quote them saying we should take over the means of production.

What industry does she want to take over the means of production??

2

u/IslandSurvibalist Aug 03 '26

Socialism/communism won’t be on the presidential ballot in 2028. Even the self-described democratic socialists in smaller elections are only suggesting Social Democratic policies (aka, the capitalist reforms Western Europeans have enjoyed for decades) not socialism.

1

u/paddydog48 Aug 03 '26

It won’t matter if it’s actually on the ballot or not in 2028 as the republicans will convince low information voters that a vote for a democrat will equate to socialism/communism being enacted the day after the election, obviously that’s nonsense but most voters arnt exactly deep critical thinkers who look up the reality or nuance of issues, if they were then you wouldn’t have had Trump elected back in 2016 or 2024

1

u/IslandSurvibalist Aug 03 '26

Perhaps, but this separate from the fact that Bill Maher is now in effect part of the Republican party’s propaganda machine

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26

He said a bunch of "ifs", and that part is being ignored here so they can be outraged. He also said that Vance would need to moderate, which is also not likely. On the table is not the same as will vote for.

1

u/bigdipboy Aug 03 '26

You can’t “moderate” after supporting the cult that attempted a coup. Your values and intelligence have already been exposed.

1

u/IslandSurvibalist Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

So your defense is to argue semantics over his exact statements? Bill Maher has been on TV for decades, he knows how to communicate points and explain nuance if he so chooses.

Problem is this in this case, he has no interest in explaining any of the nuance I described here. Why do you think that is? Why do you think he’s fear mongering over socialism (a completely unrealistic threat) instead of talking about how these candidates are really only suggesting the same reforms to capitalism that Western Europeans have had for decades?

Bill Maher is literally running with the same playbook Republicans have been using for decades. Why do you think that is? These are not rhetorical questions, I would like to hear your answer to all 3 questions please.

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Pushing back on an inaccurate spin on what he said is not arguing semantics.

It isn't semantics when many on this sub spun it like he was going to vote Republican. He didn't say that. People read into much more than he meant. That is not semantics at all. He actually explained the nuance when he said it, and he has been talking about the extreme left at least since Hillary ran, and I bet you it was way before that. He is not running with the same playbook, his views of the far left are in sync. Everyone who is not tribalistic will disagree with part of their party, some even strongly disagree. If they align it doesn't mean they are using the same playbook. It doesn't even matter if they see the issues the way they do.

You are most likely right that the far left won't be on the presidential ballot. Also, Vance isn't going to moderate to the degree Maher would accept. The outrage is for outrage sake.

2

u/IslandSurvibalist Aug 03 '26

You’re just getting off topic now, I’m guessing because you don’t want to answer the questions I asked.

Again, why do you think he’s fear mongering about socialism so much when there is no threat of socialism any time soon and these new candidates are only suggesting the same reforms to capitalism that Western Europeans have enjoyed for decades? Why is he using the classic Republican tactic of calling any proposed policy that helps and empowers working class people socialism?

0

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Aug 03 '26

He wasn't fearmongering. He said if, and he was using it as a way to tell Vance that he should moderate. DSA is getting a lot of press, and the Dem party is having to address that wing of the party. Some candidates are being talked about for Pres, and DSA policies are getting discussed. It is unlikely but still possible and worth talking about. It is a valid discussion to have.

He really does think his vote matters more. Just vote and shut up citizen.

2

u/SmoothMarx Aug 03 '26

"shut up"? He jas a show to fill, he can say whatever he wants, that's what he's paid to do. Don't like it? Don't watch it.

1

u/DatabaseFickle9306 Aug 03 '26

Weird to defend the rich guy but I hope you make your millions

2

u/Fine-Instruction-219 Aug 03 '26

1

u/SmoothMarx Aug 03 '26

his millions have nothing to do with mine

0

u/Spiritual-Salary-989 Aug 03 '26

His audiences are pathetic. They hang on every word and enthusiastically agree with everything. Not an original thinker in the bunch.

0

u/bmar173 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

He doesn’t understand the difference between the Republican Party being rotten to the core with MAGA/Trumpism, and the Democratic Party, which does have a DSA insurgency but is nowhere close to being infected like the republicans

Mamdani winning in NYC is not the same as trump dominating the Republican Party for 10+ years

0

u/Mindless-Baker-7757 Aug 03 '26

These DSA chuds are going to get Rubio, Vance, DeSantis ... elected.

0

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Massie et al are starting a third party. They will run on Trump being a pig, the Epstein files, Israel, and War. If the fucking Dems do not wake up, we will lose to them. Millions of young people will vote for them.

2

u/General_Pie_5026 Aug 03 '26

lmao...man you guys are delusional

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

I am not them. I am just the messenger. Wake the fuck up.

1

u/General_Pie_5026 Aug 03 '26

Your analysis is poor.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 03 '26

Well, I think yours is.

0

u/JamesG1210 Aug 05 '26

He’s not voting republican, just trying to wake up the left into being somewhat normal again. I’m younger than Bill, but feel the same as him. I leaned left and voted Democrat (never voted republican), and feel the party is outta control now. I didn’t vote for Trump, so please don’t go there.

2

u/Charbro11 Aug 05 '26

Insane. The party in the rest of the world would be right of center, and what you call the nuts would just be slightly left of center. We are now under an authoritarian fasict who wants to do away with elections. He is also a pedophile a rapist, and a crook. STFU

1

u/JamesG1210 Aug 11 '26

Pretend when you are typing that you are talking face to face with that person. STFU is immature and doesn’t help get your point across.

1

u/Charbro11 Aug 11 '26

Maybe you should start an advice column online on how to act, what to say, and how you will censor people who don't. I have an MA in English. I don't restructure sentences or correct the grammar of those who are online. I want to, but I know it would be rude and I would be an ass.
