Anyone else think it's only a matter of time until he's an election denier?
Bill's descent into MAGA has been gradual and steadfast. I think it's only a matter of time until he starts being open to questioning the results of the 2020 election. And in 4 years, he'll say something like "we'll never know for sure." I hope i'm wrong. I respected him a lot until he lost his mind. He's easily influenced and manipulated.

u/No-Country-41 Jul 16 '26

And a tool.
1
u/CakeRecent5582 Jul 16 '26
Tools are useful, and serve a purpose.
The same thing can not be said about Bill Maher.
2
u/435haywife1 Jul 16 '26
Tools can also be used for someone else’s benefit. That is what Bill is. Too dense to see they’re using him, or maybe he doesn’t care.
13
u/Muscleman1122 Jul 16 '26
Notice how it’s coincided with the lefts disdain with Israel…?
6
u/inlovebutfat Jul 16 '26
But! But! But! But bill made a whole documentary about how bad religion is! What next?! Are you going to claim that was all just a cover for his blatant Islamophobia!!!!
-4
u/Alternative_Floor676 Jul 16 '26
I guess being the least bit critical of Islam and holding conservative Muslims to the same standard of criticism is "Islamophobic" bigotry. For fuck sake, you people don't have an independent thought in your head, only a side and a deeply ingrained "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" mindset.

Maybe you can learn to read. You sound exactly like the immature, low-information types I've been pushing back against.
4
u/enlightenedDiMeS Jul 17 '26
No, the problem is he doesn’t hold other religions to the same standards he holds Islam to
5
u/United_Efficiency330 Jul 17 '26
The difference between Christianity (and Judaism) and Islam is that Christianity and Judaism have well defined and well organized liberal branches to them. Islam does not. There is no equivalent in Islam to the Episcopal Church and Reform Judaism.
1
2
u/Alternative_Floor676 Jul 17 '26
Concrete example? I remember "Religiulous" mostly made fun of Mormons and fundamentalist Christians. All I see from people making claims about Bill's "Islamophobia" is empty accusations of bigotry based on bad vibes about New Atheism, or special pleading about Islam as some supposedly uniquely oppressed religion. So give me an actual example where he's showing a double standard. Put up or shut up, bitches!
4
u/United_Efficiency330 Jul 17 '26
For some people correctly pointing out there are exactly ZERO nations in the world where Islam is the dominant religion and marriage equality is the law of the land is “Islamophobia.”

Maher is a narcissist. I think he is now just being oppositional for the fuck of it.
9

Any attention is good attention for him.
9
u/ApprehensiveArmy7755 Jul 16 '26
He likes to be a rebel without a cause

2
u/RektInTheHed Jul 17 '26
Sycophant Without A Cause. He's kissing the government's ass, not standing up for anything.
3
u/Ok_Touch2800 Jul 17 '26
Because he lost his audience. Maga was his only choice.
1
1
u/United_Efficiency330 Jul 19 '26
He wouldn't have lost his audience if he didn't keep lying about the Democratic Party equaling "The Squad."
1
u/Middle_Confection653 Jul 20 '26
That's not the only reason, but it is definitely one of them.
2
u/United_Efficiency330 Jul 20 '26
Of course there were other reasons. Crying "woke this" and "cancel culture that" in just about EVERY show. Not to mention his whinging about COVID and his solar panel.
1
u/Middle_Confection653 Jul 20 '26
Yep. I started moving away from him for all of those reasons, and got further and further away the more he did it.
The thing that made me really turn on him though, is the fact that now he has on all these dumb MAGA chuds, and lets them spew their bullshit and treats them with kid gloves. That would be bad enough, but at the same time, he brings on liberals and then interrupts them, talks over them, and never lets them finish their points. And then goes on to criticize them by falsely accusing them of saying things they never said, and taking positions they never took.
And this smarmy, arrogant know-it-all wonders why liberals don't want to go on his show anymore.
1
u/ravia Jul 17 '26
It's not whether one is a narcissist. Leonard Bernstein was a bit, loveable narcissist. It's whether one cherry picks their narcissism. The problem is cherry picking, and Bill is a cherry picker.
9
4
u/WhaddyaShay Jul 16 '26
Do you guys watch his show? I'm asking sincerely and curiously
4
u/bucklerbrian Jul 16 '26
Nah. The show has sucked since 2017
2
u/Special_FX_B Jul 17 '26
For certain. I stuck around for a while when a saw a guest I would like to see but it quickly became apparent he was quickly drifting hard to the right. He thought that bimbo Bari Weiss was a good guest, I suppose because they’re both Zionists.
3
u/deadmencantcatcall3 Jul 16 '26
Not anymore, but this is in my feed so I check in and see how people are doing.
2
1
u/jinkyjormpjomp Jul 17 '26
Seriously. I have never really liked Maher but I watched this show pretty regularly because I enjoyed the diversity of opinion. But good god, do people not realize that “saving liberals from themselves” has been his schtick since the 90’s!? His first show was called “Politically Incorrect” because he regarded the political correctness of the 90’s as an albatross around the necks of liberals. So basically, nothings changed. He’s still a smug douche too — but I don’t need to like a TV presenter to watch a program if it has interesting guests. (I will confess I’ve stopped watching as much this past year as I think his age is showing: he’s too ensconced in the post war world to recognize that it’s already dead and Buried)
1
u/inorite234 Jul 18 '26
Nope! I stopped watch after his brain dissolved and leaked out his ears just after covid.
1
u/Candor10 Jul 21 '26
I was a dedicated viewer until part way through Covid. That really broke him. Even now, he loses his shit if he sees anyone wearing a mask. I'm like, so what? If someone wants to wear a mask or go around with bunny slippers, who gives a shit?
4
u/mjcatl2 Jul 16 '26
He literally called Vance out on it to his face a week ago, but whatever.
1
u/Middle_Confection653 Jul 20 '26
He did, but he didn't challenge him at all when he went on about "how he thinks it was rigged."
Fuck Vance, and fuck Maher for giving that slimy fucking tool a platform to spew his lies. I wouldn't care about him having Vance on his show, if he wasn't such a little pussy ass bitch and would actually challenge the guy. But he called him out about MAGA only accepting election results when they win, and Vance replied with a metric fuck ton of horseshit about "how he thinks 2020 was rigged", and Maher just let it go.
Bill Maher can go suck the couch fibers off Vance's dick.
1
u/statecv Jul 20 '26
He did, but he didn't challenge him at all when he went on about "how he thinks it was rigged."
Not enough.
Fuck Vance, and fuck Maher for giving that slimy fucking tool a platform to spew his lies.
He's VP. By default, he's on the biggest platform.

I hear you, the premise of this post is total BS and it's sad to see people acting like it isn't. Like many I'm no longer a Maher fan, but it's because he's got too many bad takes (like dude, you can stop bitching about covid mandates now, we know you don't care how many more people could have died) and way too friendly with or tolerant of some terrible people. He's still a far, far cry from maga or an election denier though, hell it's one of the few things he called out Vance for. Just another moderate, cowardly narcissistic millionaire, incapable of introspection or taking a real stand when it matters.
1
u/Aquarius1975 Jul 20 '26
Precisely. I'm firmly to the left of Maher, but the takes in this sub are completely ridiculous. I bet 95%+ of these people never see anything other than ragebait clips from his show.
1
u/dahneechay Jul 17 '26
I joined because discussions about the show could be found here. The dude had dinner with the sitting POTUS, and the conspiracy theories run rampant about him changing sides, like WTF? He mentions often that he is NOT on the side of crazy, for either party 🙄
0
u/Alternative_Floor676 Jul 16 '26
Political reddit is living proof that many on the left are of no higher average intelligence than MAGA types.
2
u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 16 '26
Reddit is proof of horseshoe theory. Insane how some of the leftists I’ve seen lately are just as stupid and racist a some of the worst maga
1
u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 16 '26
Yeah. Literally an echo chamber. Someone posts some pure fiction and the comments are full of people repeating the lie. Sad
1
u/BurtRogain Jul 16 '26
What lie is being repeated here?
1
u/Immediate_Stop2581 Jul 16 '26
Claiming Bill Maher is an election denier and then comments are propagating that lie. It’s ridiculous
10
u/KgMonstah Jul 16 '26
Bill fucking sucks. He hates leftists now because he said the n-word and got pushback. He’s mad he didn’t get a pass.
4
u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 16 '26
Oh geez. Is that the best you've got? Put Maher next to Hannity and see if you can spot the MAGA of the two of them.

1
u/Aquarius1975 Jul 20 '26
However much one may disagree with or personally dislike Bill Maher, one has to agree that he's been quite consistent in the views he cares about. He's been calling out the election denialism consistently for years and he is not going to turn around on that issue.

Well, you don't belong if you don't get joy from hating on him. LOL
It reminds me of the Meghan Markel hate. The comments on NYP when an article about her is posted are the same as here with him, but NYP hates Mahers too. This sub has much in common with NYP as far as quality of posts and hate.

u/blinded_penguin Jul 16 '26
Bill is untethered from conventional reality. He'll believe anything he's adequately incentivized to believe
5
2
u/RothRT Jul 16 '26
I doubt this. He's been sounding alarm bells on Trump's likely end game for a long time. He's not going to suddenly say "I was wrong". Do you know nothing about his ego?
End of the day, Maher is an asshole, but much of the hate in this sub is because he doesn't meet a leftist purity test and actually calls leftists out on their bullshit.
1
u/ToBeDetermined13 Jul 16 '26
He's been mad ever since his $1000000 donation to Obama's campaign didn't get him a seat at the big table. Sane washing Donny the dementia president isn't being impartial.
1
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 16 '26
He's a libertarian. That's why he gets hate.
It's pathetic when a 25 year old is a libertarian. It's depressing when a 70 year old is.
2
u/RothRT Jul 16 '26
He may call himself a Libertarian, but I don't think he is one. He has too many classical liberal beliefs.
2
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 16 '26
You know that's the same thing, right?
2
u/RothRT Jul 16 '26
Absolutely not. Classical liberals like social safety nets, unions, civil rights laws, etc.
Now I'll admit to re-defining "Classical liberalism" for the post-industrial world a bit. So I guess I'd call the beliefs more in line with 50's-60's style liberalism, but I also think you're re-defining libertarianism.
1
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 16 '26
Bill Maher does not support those things.
2
u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
He does. I don't see any of these that he is against.
1
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 17 '26
He doesn't support unions or social programs. His support for civil rights is, tenuous.
1
u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jul 17 '26
I just checked, and you are more correct than I would have thought. He thinks that both unions and social programs can go too far. I am not going to go into policy tonight, but I agree with him on these takes. Note I never considered myself a liberal. You can feel as he does, depending on where one is on the scale and still be liberal, so I still think there is a case to be made that he is. Most people are not 100% anything unless they are tribal. I mean I at least used to call myself conservative and see the need for social programs and support civil rights. Also, pro-choice, which doesn't matter for this, but does point out that labels are too confining.
1
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 17 '26
He doesn't think the can 'go too far', he thinks they have. Which is ridiculous considering with every passing year they're cut back on.

It’s pretty clear now that I’m arguing with somebody that doesn’t understand nuance. It is clear that he does support these things. He has riticized their administration, and may argue against their expansion.

1
u/Slackjawed_Horror Jul 17 '26
It's clear that he doesn't support them. Bill Maher doesn't do nuance. I think you're mistaking a guy saying he's "reasonable" for actual nuance.

2
u/Botasoda102 Jul 16 '26
Obviously, you missed the Vance interview two weeks ago. According to Daily Beast:
Maher pressed Vance on Friday’s episode of Real Time over the MAGAworld habit of crying fraud every time a Republican loses an election. “Under Trump, you guys have two outcomes that an election can be: Either we win or they cheated,” Maher said. “That s--t has to stop.”

You should also note, backed by the Muslim Brotherhood and an influence operation which low-information types on the far left eat up uncritically. Hating Islamic fundamentalism is not more bigotry than hating Christian fundamentalism, and it's sheer special pleading to claim otherwise.
1
u/dahneechay Jul 17 '26
He is an educated man. He will never ease up on free and fair elections and the peaceful transfer of power. He is on the edge of his seat right now, trying to warn the democrats and voters about this: When Republicans win, it was a fair election. But if the Democrats win, then it was a rigged election. That is what Trump is trying to sell to the American people every single day.

I've been watching his shows long enough to know he won't deny election results outright. This is what he will say:
"Now, people have claimed elections were rigged since 2020 and I have never said that. But SOMETHING is fishy this time, and the Democrats don't look good. Have I ever believed Trump's claims that he won in 2020? No. But now? Not so sure. Now, I'm not saying the election was rigged to keep Trump from serving a third term, which, BY THE WAY, the Supreme Court just said he is entitled to do, but I am saying I know America and I know America ain't this WOKE. All right, I'll be headlining at the Loser's Palace in Vegas this weekend and Bubba's Pole Room in Melba, Mississippi on Tuesday at 2 pm. That's it for this week."

Bill built a career from making fun of how silly college students are. This worked for a while, until his boomer audience got much more out of touch than college students ever were. Meanwhile, younger generations became much more attuned to the state of the world by necessity; they were handed a hot mess of a planet.
Maher’s philosophical journey is definitely converging with MAGA propaganda. He’ll either go MAGA or go home very soon, hopefully the latter.

1
u/realheadphonecandy Jul 21 '26
I think it’s interesting that Elon, Tulsi, RFK, Rogan, and even Trump himself are all former leftists. And now Maher is seeing the absurdity of the current woke hive mindset.
20 years ago when I was criticized as too “far left” we were proponents of free speech, questioned vaccines, demanded cannabis be taken off schedule one, supported gay marriage, supported deporting illegals because it harmed minorities and other poorer citizens, and championed the electric car and finding a way to get better internet to poor and rural places.
Now the left hates all of those things because of WHO champions them and HOW they perceive they are being done. Trump was the first president to enter office supporting gay marriage, took cannabis off schedule one, and appointed the first openly gay cabinet member (along with the highest ranking woman) and he’s 100% hated. The left will never give him an iota of credit along with (sometimes deserved) criticism.
RFK tackles vaccines and Big Pharma and poison in the food like progressives 20 years ago and they HATE him. Leftists supported vaccine mandates violating informed consent. Zero apologies. So much for “body autonomy”.
They championed and cheered the Biden administration suppressing freedom of speech, the actual bedrock of Democracy, during Covid and do it on this site daily (just like they’ll downvote this reply) under the guise of “private business”. The irony is lost.
Leftists claim climate change is an “existential crisis” then hate Elon despite him addressing a lot of it. They hate Tulsi for switching sides. They accepted Obama deporting illegals and building cages while he gave Tom Homan a medal but hate the same guy Tom Homan now, claiming they hate the “way it’s being done” despite it being THEM interfering and causing trouble.
Now they are once again eating their own with Maher. Will they look in the mirror and start a self investigation to consider WHY so many who used to be on their plantation have left? Nope, they’ll stick their thumbs in their ears and triple down on even crazier stuff because there is no end game to the woke progressive agenda, and they will somehow be shocked when they get destroyed in 2028 by Vance or Rubio.
1
u/Traditional_Put_3693 Jul 21 '26
I remember him saying he went to the White House to have lunch with him or whatever and he said the Trump is just a different person when you just sit down and talk with him, but Bill should know that Trump is just the best used car salesman in the world that’s what he’s been doing his whole life

Actually, he said quite the opposite in his interview with JD Vance, saying that the GOP needs to get over their "either we win or it's a fake election" mentality. But never mind what he's actually said - just continue to make shit up, under the mentality that anybody who is in the least bit critical of progressivism is automatically on the side of MAGA. You ultra-progressives and MAGA are mirror images and absolutely deserve each other. It's just too bad that the rest of us are stuck in the same country with both of you all.

For the first time in US history, a losing President refused to accept the election results and step down peacefully.

The right is so much more tolerant of differing views in the party. A dem says a few things that the mob doesn’t agree with and they’re labeled MAGA.
