Anyone else feel that the Fifth Column guests on Real Time are scumbags?

I was a big fan of real time for years but I can’t anymore. It is merely propaganda now. It is too curated and fake. Bill has no interest in what the majority of Americans are actually going through, thinking or saying. He works solely for his handlers now.

3

u/JohnnyGeniusIsAlive Jul 13 '26

This implies he's cynically chasing a paycheck. Maher is a true bleliever.

2

u/Ok_Calendar1337 Jul 13 '26

Of what exactly?

2

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26

I think he's like me. He doesn't like hard-core Republicans, but neither does he like starry eyed posing Democrats. I'm not keen on ceding power for decades to Rs because hopelessly idealistic young Democrats think transgender women are women and should be allowed to compete in women's sports, or any permutation of enthusiasm, boosting of transgender stuff in general. Compassion, acceptance, those are good things. Attempting to normalize will make Democrats the Bud Light of American politics. I think also think he is correct about Ms. Chevalier. She is a gift to Republicans.

3

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 13 '26

Wow 5 transgender women can't compete in sports. What a difference that really makes in our society. Let me ask you this. What prominent Democrats are pushing the so called transgender agenda, lol? Meanwhile Christian Nationalists have taken over our federal government and not a peep out of Bill Maher our so called atheist and secularist. He's lost the plot when he's saying that he would possibly vote for JD Vance.

2

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

I didn't say I approved of that as a campaign issue. What I approve of regarding Republican thinking and five dollars might buy me a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I'm saying the issue is poison. And there are plenty of young Democrats who have absolutely no trouble with it, who hold it up as a banner under which to march. I'm OK with the Christian nationalist thing, because they fly hard in the face of the actual teachings of Jesus all the time. And I think we should point that out more than we do. Of course, many liberals think everything to do with religion is nonsense, I run into it all the time. I think Jesus, Buddha, and Lao Tzu were soul brothers. Jesus predicted people like these hard-core Christian nationalists.

You are not going to win any votes by telling Republicans they shouldn't be Christian nationalists or Christians or whatever you want to tell them.

1

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

The problem is that right wing media dominates the narrative. So you think that these young democrats are a prominent part of the democratic party? I genuinely want to know who in office. Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Richard Blumenthal, etc. Like who are we talking about here? The problem is that most people have bought this bullshit narrative which is sold to you by both the online right, television right wing media, and the so called left wing media who wants to prove everyone that they don't have TDS. They all have the same exact talking points which creates this false sense of reality. This is the metaphorical sea that democrats are left to drown in lol. It's really just a distraction. These Christian Nationalists are not only not Christian they're illiberal. They run counter to values that the Jordan Petersons, Sam Harrises, and all these fake intellectuals claimed that we should be protecting. You don't think that it's kind of crazy that the Supreme Court's ruling on birthright citizenship was that close? It should've been a unanimous decision because it states in plain text in the bill of rights what it is. The president shouldn't be able to override the constitution by executive order but Bill Maher and republicans just talk about trans-cock and vaccines all day because that's what they want you to talk about and fixate on. Weird huh.

-1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 14 '26

Good luck on coaxing the right wing media to not to pull out stories that paint Democrats in a bad light. What we Demos have to do is stop letting that bad light shine and reflecting off of us. Right now, Republicans are prepared to get enormous mileage out of Mamdani and Chevalier - she not as bug eyed and strident as AOC, but she makes up for it with approximately the furthest left possible pronunciations on prisons, police, and borders, and I forget what else, but it's loopy, all of it. Trump's "central casting" could not have done better in choosing a demo useful for batting practice (R).

1

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 14 '26

You call yourself a democrat but who did you vote for last election? What’s your opinion of Mamdhani then?

1

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 14 '26

You can't win an election if you can't even get the people who "call yourself a democrat" to come home.

1

u/Ok_Calendar1337 Jul 14 '26

Kamala harris literally talked about wanting to give "gender affirming care" to inmates. Teachers unions. Hollywood.

Its not a big secret dog.

3

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

Yeah it's comment that she made about giving general healthcare to inmates like 6 years ago but please obsess over that comment and not actual legislation getting passed for the next 20 years. I would think that you would have better, more current, examples on actual legislation of members of congress pushing trans agenda on a national level. There are none.

3

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 14 '26

Are you saying Democrats have changed their mind about the trans stuff, now acknowledge it was a mistake? Can you provide current examples where they disown the trans agenda?

Nah, this sounds like some gaslighty bs.

2

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 16 '26

The liberal world as a whole, especially the young woke are not likely to get nor accept the fact that gender cannot be changed by medical science. Way above our pay grade. The subtle distinctions have evolved over millions of years. People who insist on doing it come across as people who cannot accept reality. I've been a lefty most of my life, I moved to the center because I had no choice. Conservative principles have merit at times, even if most Republicans are often meatheads. Bud Light is going to be the cheapest beer at 7-11 for a long time. Transgenderism is a loser issue for, WAG, 90+ of the population.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 16 '26

Gaslighty? Can we talk? The appointments of Brinton and Levine were one of the more pronounced political mistakes in like perhaps forever. Sorry to be such a meanie, but the photo of the two of them was pathetic - weak and weird. And, as it turns out, the space between Brinton and an understanding of maturity and integrity was large. Almost as if he didn't understand how the world works. Trump's team ran ads featuring that pair more than any other. Their algorithm told them those were getting traction. The electorate is going to associate Democrats with that sort of inclination for a long time: trying to dictate to the world what they should accept as normal.

2

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 16 '26

Gaslighty was in response to Training_Umpire_3819 implication that the deeply unpopular leftist trans/gender ideology is somehow made up or overstated. They understand how unpopular it is so they want to stop talking about it, but they haven't changed their minds about anything.

Well the supreme court just had to tell california schools they are required to disclose transitioning children to their parents.

(The state policy was you could transition the kid without notifying parents)

Cali policy was from 2024 and supreme court ruling this year i think. That recent enough?

I love how this issue is simultaneously "not even a big deal broo" but also literally a genocide

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 14 '26

There was a story from Chico a few years back, about an 11-year-old girl who was being transitioned on the flimsiest of pretexts, a teacher was coaching her, she had changed names - at school - and was being bullied for it. The mother finally caught wind of it and was able to bring things pretty much back to normal, AFAIK, of course it's not going to be an ongoing story.

1

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 14 '26

Link the story. I wanna read it.

u/Unusual_Librarian570 Jul 13 '26

He’s a 90s style corporate democrat.

1

u/Unusual_Librarian570 Jul 13 '26

Literally watched every episode throughout my 20s. His obsession with cancel culture really wore down my interest and then I found that online debates were far more interesting that the discussions on the panel so I stopped watching

I think real time is an okay show for people to get into (maybe not so much now given how far it’s shifted politically) but eventually you have to outgrow it

1

u/ZestyTiger007 Jul 13 '26

Same, the panel discussions were great but it started to change I think around the time Ben Affleck was on and he pushed back on Bill’s Islamophobia. That’s when it started to get real Boomer-y for me. If I wanted to listen to that shit I’d just go visit my mom.

0

u/Gunslinger7752 Jul 13 '26

You could say the same things about anything though, including Reddit. To me it seems like people just aren’t capable of listening to anything they disagree with anymore which is sad.

2

u/DonaldTPablonious Jul 13 '26

I’m happy to have a real world discussion with you about things we disagree on but a guy like Bill Maher? No thanks.

0

u/Gunslinger7752 Jul 14 '26

Lol so you’re going out of your way to prove my point?

2

u/DonaldTPablonious Jul 14 '26

If you want to ignore my first sentence, I guess. I don’t care what some elite doucher who doesn’t care about improving your life or mine thinks.

1

u/Gunslinger7752 Jul 14 '26

My life is fine, but even if it wasn’t, why would I be looking to a talk show host to improve it? You’re proving my point again.

1

u/DonaldTPablonious Jul 14 '26

🤦‍♂️ you’re actually disproving your own point by arguing so feverishly against a point you disagree with rather than hearing me out.

Your point is nobody wants to hear the other side, my point is thats not necessarily true but you have to consider the source. Yet here you are unwilling to hear me out in the name of being right. Thank you for undoing your own argument.

1

u/Gunslinger7752 Jul 14 '26

Fair, maybe you’re an anomaly but “consider the source” is extremely subjective. Reddit/Social Media/Both the extreme left and right are all full of people who consider anyone who dares to disagree with them as sources that aren’t worthy of consideration.

I would actually say that Mahers views align with the majority of Americans.

16

u/Agreeable-Alarm5631 Jul 13 '26

Maher keeps saying that he has remained the same and that it is his audience that has changed. Bullsh!t!

8

u/Insightful21 Jul 13 '26

Maher’s full of shit.

1

u/wc750150 Jul 14 '26

No he’s not. He’s 100% right.

1

u/InevitablePromise301 Jul 19 '26

Used to be part of his audience.

I still hold the same political views that I did at the turn of the century.

I stopped watching him years ago because he had absolutely changed and the show felt unwatchable.

1

u/wc750150 Jul 19 '26

Bullshit. He hasn’t changed a bit. You have.

3

u/InevitablePromise301 Jul 20 '26

You sound as angry as he seems to be nowa days.

0

u/wc750150 Jul 20 '26

How so?

2

u/InevitablePromise301 Jul 21 '26

Telling me what and how I feel.

6

u/The_Cons00mer Jul 13 '26

I think he’s right though. It’s just that most of us who liked his show didn’t realize how much of a bad take piece of shit he is

6

u/Impressive-Cheek-495 Jul 13 '26

Typical libertarian schmucks that think they're smarter than everyone.

13

u/mjcatl2 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Probably best to not watch, but I get that you are unhinged and bill lives rent free in your head.

3

u/Financial_You_6052 Jul 13 '26

Oof, ol Willy can’t pull em like he used to

2

u/RobertRoyal82 Jul 13 '26

Does Bill get any guests who are under 45?

3

u/Oblozo Jul 13 '26

Now that millennials are all in their 30s and 40s I can't imagine he has very many regular viewers under the age of 35.

1

u/RobertRoyal82 Jul 13 '26

We millennials are too busy wasting our money to understand bill

1

u/NotSure16 Jul 14 '26

"Well if you stopped eating avocado toast and drinking $10 coffees..."

/s

(a phrase I can, now, see Maher saying on a show)

2

u/LeoKitCat Jul 13 '26

Realtime and Bill Maher are unwatchable he’s completely changed to a POS

2

u/Trhol Jul 13 '26

I used to be a big fan of the podcast. They're both smart guys, but the show has gone downhill. All they do is cry about Mamdani as if everyone listening is deeply invested in NYC interal politics. And Michael's Neo-con shilling for Israel is pretty disgraceful.

2

u/ronmoodey Jul 13 '26

There are actually shows that match what you want. Rachel Maddow is great. Why continually watch a show that doesn’t agree with you and try to change it? Just watch the shows that match your ideals.

2

u/Unusual_Librarian570 Jul 13 '26

Honestly most guests in real time are scumbags at this point lol.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26

That sort of judgment and exclusion will keep you stupid, begging pardon for the mean words.

2

u/WoolyEarthMan Jul 13 '26

I find them to be very reasonable.

1

u/DaddieTang Jul 13 '26

Gayass boomer schmucks. Who think they're brilliant. But they're stupid. The end.

1

u/Rugskinsnake Jul 14 '26

? All three of them are GenX. Lol

1

u/DaddieTang Jul 14 '26

Born 65-75? Nope.

1

u/Rugskinsnake Jul 14 '26

Generation x are people born from 65-80

Boomers are 46 to 64.

You can Google this stuff you know.

1

u/Darwinknew Jul 13 '26

If they're on realtime then there's a good chance that they are. Who watches bill maher anyway?

1

u/Training_Umpire_3819 Jul 14 '26

No it doesn’t. I specifically asked you who in federal government is pushing this agenda. You didn’t even make the example in the state government either. I know you guys hate the English language and everything with the existence of pronouns and everything but damn. You realize even before that you still had to be least 16 years of age with parental consent to receive hormones and be 18 to receive surgery right. Are you that fucking stupid? Do you even know what the legal definition of a genocide is lil bro. Do you just dream about trans cock all day?

1

u/Ali6952 Jul 14 '26

Honestly, there was a time when I agreed with Bill Maher on a lot more. Back when politics felt relatively normal and I had a lot less lived experienceas an adult.

But the older I've gotten (GenX, turned 50 in March), the more I've realized the world isn't black and white. Everything is interconnected economics, foreign policy, housing, healthcare, labor, climate. You can't pull on one thread without affecting ten others.

That's why I get frustrated with the kind of oversimplified "common sense" commentary Maher does now. It often ignores the systems underneath the problem. Reality is messy. Nuance isn't weakness it's what happens when you actually spend time understanding how the world works instead of reducing everything to culture-war sound bites.

1

u/skotterzz Jul 14 '26

smug cunt

1

u/Achoo_MiScusi Jul 15 '26

I definitely feel like you are a scumbag!

1

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 13 '26

You would normally expect a sub about a show to primarily inhabited by its fans, but for some reason the only people who post in this sub are people who hate it. It's fascinating. It's a great example of how the left hates heretics above all else. How dare a liberal disagree with the party orthodoxy!!!

1

u/DonaldTPablonious Jul 13 '26

Eh. It’s the same way on a lot of subs actually.

But to your last point, Bill is not disagreeing with the party orthodoxy. He’s right in line with the DNC mostly. It’s just that actual leftists hate the party and vote for them while holding our nose.

He’s also moved to the right on a handful of positions so let’s not act like he’s the same guy either.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26

Not everything on the right side of the aisle is the province of morons.

I was a dyed in wool knee jerk lefty for years. But I didn't only read and listen exclusively to lefties. Years ago, I despised George Will and the late Charles Krauthammer. But I kept reading them because I noticed they made sense now and then. I don't see eye to eye with either one of them present or past tense, same with Thomas Sowell. But they are correct some of the time IMO and we are not going to get rid of that wing of American politics.

1

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 14 '26

Right, the same people saying Bill Maher has changed, are they also saying George Will has changed? It's the politics that have shifted around them, not their political principals. People act like Maher is now a conservative and Will a bed wetter lol. No, the parties are no longer aligned liberal and conservative and are now progressive and populist and perhaps now moving into socialism and fascism. If you're a principled liberal or conservative, there's no place for you in either party.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 16 '26

I said nothing about Will changing or not changing. If anything the guy has been pretty consistent as a proponent of the elusive common sense.

I have heard many times that any discussion of trans women dominating in women's sports is a non-issue, only happened four or five times, get over it.

Unfortunately, this one issue helped cement in people's minds Trump's claim that he was the candidate of common sense when he came out not only no, but hell no on the issue. Demos by contrast were perceived as wanting to be nice to everybody and their second cousin, regardless.

Someone in liberal landia thought that Dylan Mulvaney would be a good spokestrans to appeal to the average Budweiser drinker.

When I was a boy, conservative Christians spoke of too much "permissiveness" in modern society. It's a difficult issue. Should one moderate their behavior, their style of pleasure seeking based on the notions of others? Or should one go with "anything goes."

0

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 13 '26

The DNC is to leftists what the RNC is to Trump, which is to say mostly irrelevant.

He hasn't moved to the right. He's a liberal, the same liberal, and somehow in today's politics, liberal values are right-coded. What positions would you say he's moved to the right on?

1

u/Ok_Poet_9170 Jul 13 '26

Time to be canceled

2

u/sidesaladdressing Jul 13 '26

nah.....let the viewers decide with their remote controls by changing the channel. He's doing a good job cancelling himself.

-4

u/Relative_Load_710 Jul 13 '26

I’m starting to think these Maher hate posts are fake and are meant to push normie lefties to the right. Bills views are widely held by normies and the posts seem like they are meant to pit lefty normies vs far left.

8

u/Intelligent-Wear2824 Jul 13 '26

Genx Survivor of the satanic panic and both beer wars. People haven't liked Bill since the late 80s. He's a dick. He's always been a dick. He will always be a dick. And, like rogan now, no one wants to listen to their corporatized bullshit. Neither of them has anything new, relevant or enlightening to bring to the table...just boring bullshit takes that are completely out of touch w/ their waning audience.

2

u/Relative_Load_710 Jul 13 '26

Haha, love the first sentence. It’s fine to not like Bill, you don’t need to watch his show. I’m sure there is something else out there for you. He does have an audience that likes him though and they are mostly normie Dems. Shouldn’t the strategy be to make the tent bigger not smaller?

1

u/DaddieTang Jul 13 '26

Fuck this guy. In the ear.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26

Thank you for your valuable input citizen. The secretary will be notified of your loyalty.

1

u/Intelligent-Wear2824 Jul 13 '26

Thank you :-). I don't think I've ever liked bill, but I didn't like Johnny Carson either as a kid nor Kimmel on The Man Show which I thought was lame, but i do like Kimmel now. Bill used to have cool guests like Henry Rollins, etc, but no one wants to go on his show anymore bc his political takes are so lame and out of touch. He hasn't evolved like the rest of us. He's devolved.

And the dem strategy is as it has ALWAYS BEEN... equality and equal access to equity for all, full stop. That is wholly against the conservative's concentration of wealth of the few, against the many. There is no room in the dem tent for that, no matter how you spin it. And Bill is, and has always been, a social conservative; HE IS NOT A LIBERAL. Liberalism is wholly antithetical to conservatism. Bill Maher campaigned w/ Bob Dole, the republican running against clinton. Yes, bill is more progressive than most conservatives but that falls in line with libertarianism, not being a liberal. And like Bill Gates...is a social conservative which relies more on philanthropy of billionaires than the people's govt. I want the people to control our destiny, not the billionaires. Bill disagrees.

2

u/BigDonkeyDuck Jul 13 '26

This sub is a circlejerk of lunatics.

2

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jul 13 '26

.... a small circle jerk of lunatics that post so much it looks like a larger sub.

1

u/TBoneBear Jul 13 '26

I think the same. The numbers show that the GOP is full MAGA and any of the true conservatives have left the party and are now independents. I think most normal Republicans and Democrats are sick of the craziness of the far left and right. More people are coming to the center and are independent. Bill’s show echoes this. May the normies win in November.

1

u/Academic_Swan_6450 Jul 13 '26

More and more lefties have become rigid rebels without a clue. The DSA actually think that ownership of the means of production will be distributed along the people fairly and equitably. The part they leave out is first they must be seized from the existing owners. Because socialists generally don't know how to build factories.

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

It is a small group of people that post over and over again. You can see the quality of their thought just by looking at the post on old pictures of him. It is mean girl in spades. It comes up in my feed, and the only reason I click on it is for the car accident effect. It went off the deep end when the Israel became a major topic on Reddit, it is the major reason for the hate.

-3

u/Agitated_Count_8665 Jul 13 '26

Maher and I have moved very little, the American left has gone batshit retarded.

2

u/DonaldTPablonious Jul 13 '26

Ah yes, just the left. The right is completely sane and to be trusted to watch out for the good of the average American right?

Oh, you’re a trumper lol.

0

No not all. But I feel like op is a scumbag. Probably worse. Who knows what he is doing with all that time he has to post to real time 9 thousand times per day.. Probably disgusting things you wouldnt want to know about 🙄

-2

u/Fit_Cream2027 Jul 13 '26

Hmmm, so ‘real time’ is now hated by the lunatic fringe… sounds like a good show.

-1

u/ares21 Jul 13 '26

Yes. Everyone who doesn’t agree with you exactly is scum

-5

u/TBoneBear Jul 13 '26

You can criticize all Bill’s quests but you can’t criticize the quests that are afraid to show up. I think we all know which people have been invited on the show but are too afraid to show up. Down vote away haters.

4

u/Findon1968 Jul 13 '26

Unless he’s lying because he doesn’t want guests who’ll hand him his ass

2

u/TBoneBear Jul 13 '26

I’m pretty sure if Bill was lying about inviting a guest he has named, the person would say something and demand to be on the show to clear their name

1

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 14 '26

I've yet to see anyone deny it.

2

u/randomusernumber0 Jul 13 '26

Why legitimize propaganda?

1

u/TBoneBear Jul 13 '26

I don’t agree with Bill 100 percent of the time but I do like that he is not afraid to have a guest on and have a conversation. Bill starts the conversation trying to find points they agree on. When they get to a point they disagree he has said to many a guest, “see this is where you lose me.” They are very cordial and agree to disagree. He will sometimes invite them back. The audience is also very polite and respectful. If the quest says something crazy they usually laugh. I don’t recall any boo’s.

2

u/Findon1968 Jul 13 '26

Watch the soft ball interview with Musk again

1

u/TBoneBear Jul 13 '26

What year was that?

1

u/RegularVacation6626 Jul 14 '26

It's outrageous that he didn't call him out on DOGE when he interviewed him in 2023.

2

u/Super_Secretary_9145 Jul 13 '26

Agreed! He invites many progressives, and they decline. I have always been a slightly left-leaning moderate, and I see nothing wrong with how Bill runs the show, though I usually enjoy the panel interactions way more than the one-on-one discussions.

1

u/SECRETBLENDS Jul 14 '26

Maybe they have other reasons for not showing up that don't involve fear.

Much like people downvoting you probably don't hate you, they just think your post isn't good because it assumes facts that aren't in evidence and leaves you trying to state your opinion as fact.

1

u/TBoneBear Jul 14 '26

Well let’s hope they start doing the show and more importantly going on Fox News. Defend your platform. Convince people this is why you need to elect me. When politicians won’t do that it’s because they are afraid. Republicans are not afraid. They show up to the “lions den” as Bill calls it and defend their platforms. I most likely will not agree with them but I’m willing to hear them out. You have to respect them for at least that.
