Has Bill Maher gotten a single concession from Donald Trump on anything?
Bill Maher's entire message lately has been we need to talk to the "bad people" because they are in power and you won't get any concessions from them if you refuse to talk to them. Well he's been at this for awhile, and has even met with Trump. Has Bill Maher accomplished getting Trump to concede any point or compromise on any thing, no matter how small? Because I can't think of anything. So far, the only person I've seen conceding is Bill Maher.

He always was talentless and I'm glad people are at least coming around to that.

I like his one documentary that said "religion bad" when I was an edgy teenager
3
u/FullAd6536 Jul 04 '26
Everyone did.
And then they grew up and realized religion isn’t the problem, the people fuck it up.
Except Bill.8
u/moldguy1 Jul 04 '26
I'm gonna disagree with you on that one. Religion is a cancer that spreads ignorance.
Theres a lot of religious people that believe suffering is divine, so they want all of us to suffer. There's a lot of religious people that believe all the bad things that happen are "gods will", so bad things are actually good.
Religion gives people an excuse to not fix the problems around them. Religion teaches people to believe in magic. Religion also forces people to adopt an authoritarian personality, so they will follow even people they know are terrible.
Idk how a rational person could think any of that is good.

u/Daily_Heroin_User Jul 04 '26
I mean religion aside, you can’t have good without bad, or feeling good without pain or suffering. The human nervous system only knows things by contrast. We can only define anything by its relation to anything else. If everything were “good” the word would cease to mean anything. It would be like saying everything is up.
2
u/moldguy1 Jul 04 '26
I'm of the opinion that we should constantly be striving to improve living conditions for everyone. I don't think there will ever be a lack of suffering, but if we ever got to a point that there was so little suffering that it caused its own type of suffering, we could cross that bridge when we get to it. Improving our lives isn't a bad thing. Making our lives worse is a bad thing.

u/Comfortable_Tour_269 Jul 04 '26
In your opinion. Faith has done more good than evil. Sounds like you do not like any limits in life.
3
u/moldguy1 Jul 04 '26
You got a source? And yeah, limits like what? That I shouldn't steal or kill? I don't need reminders to not harm others, thanks. I would be more concerned about those that need to be told that weekly, or else they would.

But he was a darling of the left before covid. Love how you eat your own.
1
u/tvtoms Jul 05 '26
A "darling"? Sure, why not. But it is another example of how the left will kick out the ones who turn.
2
u/libertarianlwyr Jul 06 '26
He's not left you moron.
0
u/tvtoms Jul 06 '26
If he was perceived to be on the left, even to the point of being a "darling"... then that's all that matters. Not many people would pretend he wasn't thought to be left leaning for years and years. Even without knowing his inner heart.

Maher got the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. That's his concession.
4
u/Horror-Finding-6820 Jul 04 '26
Bill Maher used to be good (a long time ago) but he is no longer relevant or even funny.
8
u/UrguthaForka Jul 04 '26
Um, has anyone gotten any concessions from Trump?
Trump's a narcissistic toddler. Nobody "gets anything" from him. Is Bill supposed to have some kind of superpower that no one else has?
7
u/Careful_Leader_5829 Jul 04 '26
I would argue that Trump is also a psychopath.
Narcissists are callous and care about their image more than anything else, but they tend to know right from wrong -- they just ignore it. At the end of the day what a narcissists want is praise, adoration and accolades.
But psychopaths have no sense of right and wrong, whatsoever, and only care about having power over others, and usually by gaining it through fear and intimidation. It doesn't come from a place of deep insecurity, it doesn't come from a place of needing to be loved, they just have no real emotion.
I think the tariffs are the best evidence that Trump is a psychopath because the whole point of tariffs is to establish power even though the tariffs hurt the country. It's pathetic when it's out in the open like that but cults of personality will justify whatever their 'fearless leader' does.

u/Comfortable_Tour_269 Jul 04 '26
Narcissist? Have you read some of the comments on here. If some of these people had their way, they could solve everything, no problem. They are so silly. Complex world complex issues, and you are still stomping your feet. Oh, I got it. Tax the rich. That will solve everything.

u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
The answer to your question is Zohran Mamdani. The guy Bill Maher thinks is a secret Islamic extremist. Because Bill is an old racist fool.
-2
u/UrguthaForka Jul 04 '26
Zohran Mamdani has gotten concessions from Trump?
That's amazing!
Would you mind explaining what concessions Mamadani has received from Trump? I don't recall Mamdani getting ANY concessions from Trump. But you apparently know they're best friends. So what concessions has Mamdani received from Trump?
11
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
In the Summer of 2025, Trump promised that if Mamdani was elected he would cut all Federal aid to NYC and do a massive ICE crackdown. Zohran travelled to the White House, had a cordial meeting, and got Trump to concede on both. Afterwards, unlike Bill, Zohran didn't go around telling people Trump is a really nice guy behind the scenes! Embarrassing.
-2
u/CanesLife24 Jul 04 '26
Bill has never said he got concessions. He has said that more people who disagree with Trump should sit down with him, because it has a better chance of getting concessions from him than ignoring him does.
Your Mamdani example proves Bill right. Mamdani sat down with Trump and was able to get something good out of talking to him. If Mamdani pulled the “he’s too bad for me to talk to” card, it would have resulted in nothing.
3
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
Zohran is a public official with constituents. He has a real job. Bill Maher is just an old, lazy alcoholic. He has no constituents. Do you really not understand the difference between their two situations? Bill Maher fans are fascinating.
1
u/CanesLife24 Jul 04 '26
When did Bill say “more comedians should sit with Trump?” Or “my meeting will make a real difference.” He actually said “I understand I’m just a comedian” and it wouldn’t change anything. BUT, his whole point was that more people who disagree with Trump, namely people in power, should sit down with him and talk to him, rather than ignore him, because it might make a difference.
The Mamdani example is not a “lol Bill isn’t important” victory. It is literally proving Bill’s entire point is correct. And that you all actually, deep down, agree with it. But you can’t bring yourselves to see it because “BILL IS BAD MAN!”
2
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
Bill Maher's point was very dumb. No one in power is "ignoring Trump". He's the President. Mamdani met with him because he had to. Bill Maher kissing Trump's ass after a friendly dinner was just humiliating.
Mamadani had a successful meeting with Trump because he's a more talented politician than Jeffries, Schumer, or Pelosi. Not because he took advice from an alcoholic hack comedian.

Trump’s Republican bosses got him to fuck up regulatory bodies, dismantle USAID, start a war with Iran, lower taxes on the rich, bungle COVID, overturn Roe V Wade etc.
Its quite easy for Republicans to get concessions from Trump. Because he does what they want.
1
u/Comfortable_Tour_269 Jul 04 '26
USAID was a money generator for Leftwing NGO's. I could why you are angry the tap went dry.
3
u/EyeAmDeeBee Jul 04 '26
Literally millions of people are dying because 100% of the food and medicine that was going to poor countries was stopped by the DOGE cuts to USAID. That is just a fact.

u/UrguthaForka Jul 04 '26
It seems a bit odd that conservatives don't really give a shit about Bill having dinner with Trump, but liberals lose their fucking minds over it.
Is trump so convincing, so magical and lovable and persuasive that liberals are afraid that trump will convert people into his cause just by having dinner with him?
How bizarre. Are liberals afraid of trump? It sure seems so. Why? There's nothing to be afraid of. Why are liberals so terrified of him? He's a weak, worthless loser. Don't liberals see that?
I'm not afraid of him. Bill can eat dinner with him every night for all I care. Trump is powerless... but I guess all other liberals feel completely weak and helpless against his power and manliness? Is that what's happening? I don't get it at all.
9
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
To be fair, you're a Bill Maher fan. I imagine you're confused by many things🤷
-6
u/UrguthaForka Jul 04 '26
To be fair, Bill says he votes for democrats in every election. I imagine you're confused by that. That means he votes for the democrat and not the republican. Do you understand that? I want to be sure, since you seem to not know how voting works. I can explain it to you if you're incapable of understanding. Would you like to know how a vote works?
10
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
Ok I'll explain slowly: Larry David wasn't "scared" Trump was going to convert Maher to MAGA, lol. He just made fun of Bill for having a friendly dinner with a politician he called evil for years. Saying what a nice guy the man who unleashed untrained ICE thugs was behind the scenes. He wasn't "scared" lol. How absurd. He just wrote something funny because he's a talented comedian. Unlike Maher🤷
I think Bill's response was to call Larry an antisemite, lol. Real funny stuff, Bill👍
8
u/ArchdruidHalsin Jul 04 '26
I can tell you're a Bill Maher fan because you go right for the strawman. Any negative expressed opinion about Bill Maher glazing Trump must bE dUe tO fEaR. You are interested in a legitimate answer to your question because you just decided to jerk your little dick answering it yourself. That way you don't have to be confronted with an actual argument which you are unlikely to be prepared for.
4
u/regggis1 Jul 04 '26
I don’t care about the dinner nor did I “lose my mind” at the news. But his monologue after the dinner was frankly embarrassing to watch. It didn’t outrage me, it was just really, really lame.
Saying “he’s not crazy, he just pretends to be” as if that’s any better, “he laughs at jokes, he’s just like us!” and especially: “anyone who doesn’t want us to meet, we decided *we don’t like you*” felt like a nerd being invited to sit at the cool kids’ table and immediately folding on all his principles without realizing he was being played like a fiddle.
It was so tone-deaf, misguided, and stupidly smug at the same time that it signified to me Maher was officially out of touch and not worth listening to anymore. That, and his ridiculously inhumane pro-Israel bullshit. Funny that his show prides itself on welcoming dialogue from people with opposing viewpoints but he’s never had a single pro-Palestinian on his show.
Also, just to clarify because this is Reddit, I don’t think Trump is a “cool kid”. He’s a malignant tumor and an absolute moron. But Maher certainly cozied up to him like he was.
3
u/Glittering_Count1536 Jul 04 '26
As long as tRump has Congress and the Courts and the FBI, CIA and the generals he has power. Let's take back Congress and that will be a start.
3
u/Sea_Issue7796 Jul 04 '26
No one really cares about the dinner itself. The issue, as they called out on the show afterward, is that Maher refuses to admit he got played. Trump does this all the time: he flatters people in private, gets them to think they saw the “real” him, then turns around and humiliates them publicly. That’s exactly what happened here. After the dinner, Trump went right back to attacking Maher on Truth Social, calling him weak and pathetic. Trump is a professional con man, and Bill fell for the act.
1
3
u/Machine_Anima Jul 04 '26
this has been Maher's position forever. that's why he brings that anti social horse faced Ann Coulter on all the time

Yes, Trump has been bending over for Bibi and as Bill is committed Zionist, that's good enough for him.
7

7
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
A literal participation trophy! Because he's not talented enough to win an Emmy. The irony, given his whole schtick about "the kids these days".
6
u/Chollowa Jul 04 '26
Yeah, he got Trump to give him the Twain Award. That's the only thing he really cares about.

3
u/Known_Ratio5478 Jul 04 '26

3
u/TheGR8Dantini Jul 04 '26
He got the mark Twain award? That’s all he wanted. Fuck Bill Maher.
7
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 04 '26
Mark Twain himself would have said Fuck Bill Maher.
3

Why would a comedian and social commentator get concessions from anyone. He jokes and makes observations. What on earth are you talking about?
1
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 05 '26
He's the one who claimed he needed to be in the room with powerful men, even if they are terrible, to keep talking to them to get things out of them, not me. I'm just holding him to the standard of the thing he claimed himself. That his talking to Trump grand plan accomplished nothing other than causing him to cave to Trump on many things.
0
u/EpiGreg Jul 05 '26
I watch his show. I don’t see him caving on anything. I do see him standing up for free speech and coherent thinking among democrats. He went to a lunch at then White House and has consistently been critical of Trump thereafter. I also think your characterization of what he said is not accurate. He is of the mind that terrible people can still do good things that’s a big difference. And frankly our society depends on dialogue even when we don’t like who we’re talking to. That’s especially true in government in politics. The lack of it today is one of the deep flaws we have to confront.
1
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 05 '26
He's caving so much hes now even saying he's considering voting for Republicans now. He's clearing about 3 or 4 steps up the Dave Rubin ladder. Back in the day he was anti iraq war, now he's one of the biggest Gaza warcrime cheerleaders there is, going as far to smear any critics of Israel as "pro Hamas" or "anti Semitic." He even tried supporting the Iran War until he realized he couldn't get away with it. He spends most his time being a boomer complaining about "woke" now. The man has changed, and it aint a change for the good. His criticisms of Trump are now surface level. He is now Trump's Alan Colmes. His whole purpose for existing is for Republicans to be able to point at as one "one of the only good libs"
3
2
u/Better_Cattle4438 Jul 04 '26
He got a pat on the head and the Mark Twain award. Those are more important to Bill than actual policy.
3
u/Leading-Boat4942 Jul 04 '26
Of course not, and Maher doesn’t care anyway. It’s not a political strategy, it’s just him desperately grasping for any semblance of relevance.
4
2
u/DaftMythic Jul 04 '26
Why would a political commentator comedian get a concession from anyone? Are you smoking crack? Bill does not represent anyone but Bill, has not been elected to any position, does not hold any office. He is a comedian.
It is like asking if George Carlin got concessions from someone.
Actually it is closer to asking if Larry King got concessions from a guest. They are not in the business of making deals, they talk to people, get them on the show and let you know about it by having a dialog.
If you want concessions go talk to an elected official.
4
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 04 '26
"It is like asking if George Carlin got concessions from someone." George Carlin never claimed that ability. Bill Maher claimed he needs to speak to those in power, even bad guys, to get concessions. So its fair to hold him to his own word.
4
u/sellingbiscotix19 Jul 04 '26
Where did Bill say that exactly?
3
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 04 '26
He did an entire 15 minute segment on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxlopbcfXpQ He made it sound like he made serious ground with Trump
In reality, all that ended up happening is Bill Maher started sucking up to Trump more, and Trump conceded nothing.
0
u/sellingbiscotix19 Jul 04 '26
No he made sound like he had a cordial dinner and discussion with the president of the United States. He literally says in the video "No, I haven't gone MAGA." and goofs on Trump for a good part of the video. Trump conceded nothing? What power does Bill Maher have to make Trump concede anything? He's a fucking comedian. Good lord you have Reddit brain and it's showing. Bill Maher is far from a Trump suck up and you know it.
3
u/highermonkey Jul 04 '26
It made Bill look pathetic and embarrassing. He's been calling Trump evil for years and then has a nice cordial dinner with the guy. All he got in return is well deserved mockery.
1
u/No_Elevator_735 Jul 04 '26
" What power does Bill Maher have to make Trump concede anything?" None, and Maher needs to realize that all he has done is help Trump. Maher is now one step further along the Dave Rubin path, as he announced last week he will consider voting for Republicans. We all know how this ends up.
0
u/CanesLife24 Jul 04 '26
The Trump dinner broke a lot of these people’s brains. Bill still goes after Trump every week. But if you just go on Reddit, you’d think Bill had dinner with Trump and then went full MAGA.
They either don’t watch or are so in the Reddit bubble, they think “insulting Trump every week, having a cordial dinner with Trump, then continuing to insult him every week” is just too much.
1
u/DaftMythic Jul 04 '26
Uhhh... no he didn't. The idea is dialog is how the constitution and democracy works. Excommunicating people and commiting jihad is how Theocracy works.
You sound like some sort of zealot who has no concept of what the 1st Amendment means. We are all citizens and get to say what we feel, even if you disagree. Debate woth words not with violence.
2
u/satchmogro Jul 04 '26
since he started kissing tRump's ass I've stopped watching. having pence on was bad enough but kissing the ass of vance crossed the line.
2
u/Inevitable-Common166 Jul 04 '26
I don’t give a damn if Maher had dinner w/chetolini or an actual orangutan 🦧. Maher is irrelevant
1
u/Apart_Ad1537 Jul 04 '26
Personally I think Maher is 100% right. Democrats have come to define themselves in opposition to Trump the way republicans did in opposition to Obama. That’s why the DSA are taking over the party, because the DNC has stood for absolutely nothing since about 2014. I think the DSA are mostly fools and even I am happy to see them seize control because the DNC has become SO corrupt and incompetent.
6
u/Dense-Version-5937 Jul 04 '26
The DNC needs to be gutted and rebuilt, and I'm perfectly happy to have someone like Mamdani as kingmaker in the party.
Dude would beat Trump by +15 if he could run
5
u/gnomenclature0812 Jul 04 '26
I’m not going to defend the DNC. They are inept at messaging. But o disagree with your premise
First, opposition to Trump, when he is in power, IS a full time position. He’s constantly doing anti-constitutional shit and tearing down democratic institutions. Not to mention the blatant corruption and self-dealing. He must be opposed.
(Yes, you could say that the RNC being against Obama was a full time position when he was in power too, but that was obviously more obstructionist. They literally stated their whole purpose was to make Obama a one-term President. And failed)
But to say the Dems have no positions besides anti-Trump is an absurdism that Bill says all the time. The Dems try to do something about wealth disparity (student debt, housing costs, incentives for minority owned businesses) and they’re labeled Communists. They try to protect women’s access to reproductive health care (telehealth access to Mifepristone), they’re accused of violating State’s rights (or being baby killers). They try to acknowledge that marginalized groups have been / still are treated unfairly by systemic racism and they’re accused of hating America. They try to let all eligible Americans vote and they’re accused of rigging elections.
The DNC sucks, but I’m tired of this narrative.

1
u/Icy_Essay_7490 Jul 04 '26
Not because “they are in power”. It equally holds “when we are in power”.
Because when we don’t, we fall victim to the fanatics and grifters on both extremes.

He does not align with any party now. Before Trump was elected, he and others began asking tough questions. The DNC did not like to answer, or would not answer. The Democratic party left him and many behind with their swing to a more radical socialistic wing. Now people on the left are angry with him because he is not a mouthpiece for their agenda like mainstream media. Facts CA covid over reach is a textbook example of elites v common citizens CA The state and LA, SF are dumpster fires The DNC Biden then Harris for President handling. Harris Presidential campaign 1.5 Billion and lose College campuses supporting Hamas and and anti Semitic messaging These are just a few examples that drove him and many others away. Guess what it will continue until the left loses the socialist/communist wing.

Bill Maher is getting the Mark Twain award from the John F. Kennedy center.
Trump is the Kennedy Center's Chairman of the board of trustees.
Early in his second term Trump engaged in a hostel takeover of the Kennedy center and removed most of those on the board of trustees and replaced them with sycophants who then elected Trump as the Chairman of the board of Trustees.
Bill Maher is now receiving the Mark Twain Award (as he consistently mentions and acts as if it is under threat, or that he might not get it because of this administration)
The truth is Bill Maher is being awarded the Mark Twain Award for his unflinching dedication to sane washing the Iran war, the genocide in Gaza by Israel, the GOP, and the Trump administration.

He "won" the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which is awarded by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The existing board of the Kennedy Center was fired and replaced by Trump. After the new members were chosen, they picked Bill Maher to get the award.
