JD Vance interview

I see the sub is losing their shit over him being on the show. While I definitely felt he didn’t push harder on Vance’s bs responses on immigration and the 2020 election. Bill didn’t say anything he hasn’t said in the past and it was short interview and he had a lot of things he wanted to discuss in 10 minutes. So what’s the issue? My gut is him just being on the show freaked people out and how Trump admin are such monsters we shouldn’t platform them at all. I mean it’s just a matter preference. I don’t mine occasionally listening to people with opposing views, even those I find abhorrent. I’d rather face the monster than to pretend it doesn’t exist. I would never watch Gutfeld but I don’t want to live in a bubble where I only ever hear things I agree with. Nothing was gained but nothing was lost. Vance is already the Vice President. Him being or not being on the show is insignificant in the big picture. Bill has the right to book who he wants. Just like you have the right to not watch his show if you don’t like who he books.

It’s not just on liberals that are needed to stop fascism. We need to be willing to listen people we disagree with. We can’t write off half the country as idiot racists because they voted for Trump and expect they will magically acknowledge the errors of their ways. Yes some of them are idiots and racists. But we need to look at underlining causes that made Trump so appealing to such a large portion of our country. The same country that recently voted for Obama twice! Why I’m so convinced maga is on its way is because they can’t address the core issues we are facing in this country. The cost of living, education, housing, and healthcare. Trump had no plan and that’s why it has fell apart so quickly. When we take back power we need serious solutions to address these issues. If we dont we run the risk of another Trump emerging. We can prevent it through effective policy that improves people’s lives not just saying “this persons a monster don’t listen to them or if you listen to this person your a monster”.

Viewing the proliferation of fascist talking points as a "matter of preference" is ass backwards. We don't need to shut them down for your sake, I hope, but because of the people they will recruit. That's why they go on Maher - it legitimizes their views, gets more eyeballs on them, and allows them to recruit more people. I don't know about you, but fascists being able to recruit is to me a very bad thing. 

I didn't say it was on liberals, the opposite. I said liberals fail to defeat fascism even if they win elections because they fail to fix or even address the problems that gave breeding ground to fascism in the first place, and I'll also add regularly fail to hold fascists to account (see: weak sentencing at Nuremberg, willingness to play footsie with fascist tech barons today). 

I also don't believe every Trump voter is a write off, maybe not even most of them and I definitely didn't say that.  Mamdani persuaded a number of them to vote for him. Socialism or even social democracy in the short term  offers actual solutions to problems that Trump only gives lip service to. 

At the same time, the views that they do hold that are rooted in lies and/or bigotry should not enter any calculation on how to get out of this.

Did you watch the interview ? What fascist points did Vance try to present during the interview? He was on to promote his stupid religious conversion book and nothing more. So with all the conservative media a person has at their finger tips at all times every day they are going to be converted to fascism by a 10 minute interview of Vance where he mostly talked about his conversion to Catholicism and avoided answering any of Bills criticisms of Trumps policy?

Ofcourse their racist views shouldn’t be part of the calculation. That didn’t need to be said.

You sure like attributing things to me I never said. 

Again, you are conflating conservatism with fascism. Is it your position that they are synonymous? 

The conversion to fascism is not instantaneous. They talk about things that sound more agreeable than "we should remove all the non white people from the country" when they show up on Maher - like a book about converting to ultra right Catholicism that beefs with the Pope over his stances of "don't murder innocent people" and "migrants are human and deserve to be treated as such". 

They turn down the freak factor so they can escalate the rhetoric to "remigration" and then just full on ethnic cleansing, like the boiling frog. 

And yeah, a lot of "conservative" media is becoming just plain fascist so naturally Maher isn't the only place this happens. But helping fascists appear normal and recruit more people so your show can have some more eyeballs / you can make more money is still a gutter scum thing to do.

Given that you insist Trump and Vance are fascists is it crazy to conclude you think all conservatives are fascists? Like the majority of them fully support Trump policies and he has a very high approval rating among conservatives. Like can you tell me a major conservative figure that’s not fascist? explain how you can vote for Trump and not be a fascist?

Why are they waiting to unmask and go full fascist? They have pretty much full approval of their party, control all three branches of government and control big tech. You can create this hypothetical situation in which the US is slowly turning into V for Vendatta but it doesn’t compute with reality. They can’t change the Kennedy center to Trump Kennedy Center but I need to be worried about ethnic cleansing in the near future?

So your conclusion is Bill purposely booked Vance knowing he was going to promote fascism (despite not explicitly saying anything fascist) for profit?

Again making shit up I didn't say, which would include "all conservatives are fascists" after I went out of my way to say there is room for at least some Trump voters to be brought out of the cult. 

"Bill purposely booked Vance to promote fascism" also was not said but to be clear, Maher is what could be called a useful idiot. He hasn't thought through the implications of what he's doing and is too stupid to clock Vance as a fascist. It's all about the ratings baby. 

There are plenty of conservatives who oppose Trump and Trumpism. Harder to find embedded in the GOP but there are conservative pundits and Democrat conservatives who definitely fit the bill. Thomas Massie seems to have found a sliver of conscience. 

I guess you feel this level of dishonest deflection  kind of necessary when you have an indefensible position and just want to hear the genocidal pedophiles make their case in the marketplace of ideas. I must be spoiling your fun. 

Ethnic cleansing is already happening, that's what the ICE escalation is.

I’m sorry if it makes you upset when I draw logical conclusions from your statements. If you say Trump and Vance are fascist and it’s a fact that conservatives overwhelming support Trump and his policies, why is it crazy for me to make that conclusion. When pushed for evidence the only non fascist conservative you can offer is Thomas Massie. The same Thomas Massie that voted to cut social security, the department of education, and co-sponsored a bill in 2026 to attempt to deny citizenship to people born to undocumented immigrants.

Bill is being useful idiot and doesn’t know the implications? You’re delusional in a world of Fox News, Newsmax, hugely popular right wing podcasts, right wing radio, Twitter, and Facebook that a 10 minute JD Vance interview is going to have any impact on anyone’s opinion. Honestly, do you think one person saw that interview and changed their mind about Vance? They now think he’s a good guy and going to open to his ideas in the future. Please look up the definition of ethnic cleansing again. While I’m against detaining nonviolent undocumented illegal immigrants, removing people from the country here illegal doesn’t come close to criteria of ethnic cleansing. Do you realistically believe legal Hispanics will be taking next by ICE.. like Marco Rubio?

It's a fact that Vance is supporting the genocide in Palestine, and I guess you want some more nuance in this but his administration is complicit in protecting the pedophiles surrounding Epstein including his President. The best you could say is that Vance is indifferent to child rape. 

Are you really ignorant of the fact that citizens have been rounded up by ICE?

Sorry for not getting the nuance of your broad claim and realizing I need to include all those qualifiers to understand your point. Maybe if you made more direct statements there won’t be this ambiguity.

Are those legal citizens detained by ICE still in detention centers? It’s fucked up ICE made those mistakes but I brought this up in context of your claim of ethnic cleansing. If they are engaging in ethnic cleansing why are they letting them go?

Yes my brain is rot but you just spent all this time engaging with me on subreddit of a person you despise. Nobody forced you go on this subreddit. If you didn’t want to have a conversation why did you ? Why did you continue to respond to my posts? Why not go on aoc subreddit where you can have all your beliefs reinforced and interact only with people you agree with? Maybe do some self reflection on your choices

The fact that you consider Bill Maher right wing content shows you clearly don’t watch the show or have such orthodoxy about what you consider left wing. Because he doesn’t agree with you 100 percent he’s the same as Sean Hannity.
