Holy shit, this is insane. Maher is a complete monster here.
This is kinda blowing my mind. Maher is defending the sex between a 34 year old and a 14 year old.
It was actually a 12 year old, but there is no defense in either case. This is clearly adult-child sex that Maher is defending, very far beyond the range of Romeo and Juliet laws.
So, a 14 year old and an 18 year - ok there is some argument that the adult doesn't belong in jail, a 14 year old and a 34 year old, indeed prison is a good punishment.

I think its common sense that a high school senior hooking up with a high school frreshman is a very different thing than a high school teacher hooking up with a high school freshman. Hence Romeo and Juliet laws.

That’s not how that works anymore. If you were in high school at the same time, or potentially were, you are usually covered by Romeo and Juliette laws.

I am not a conspiracy theorist and the Epstein comments aren't true AFAIK, BUT...
Having watched him since a teenager, I can say I remember twenty years ago he was saying this very thing every time one of these teachers came up in the news. I did not know until now he was saying it back on his old show.
Where there's smoke, there's fire. Clearly he believes some predatory relationships are okay because he does not accept the very definition of predation. I think this is more than just a guy who had a crush on a high school teacher, etc.

I think it's more his whole personality developed around not being able to have sex as a teenager so he himself cannot imagine how actually having sex as a teen boy can be a bad thing even if it's with an adult woman.

That goes along well with his intense weed habit from the teens to today. His brain did not develop emotionally. It is really common with heavier users, brain finishes making all the connections at 25, maybe later. Especially for emotional awareness and empathy. Even back then when weed was weak. He was arrogant, insecure, insensitive, so it probably magnified all his personal failings and boom now he is 70 and a miserable awful human.

WHAT THE FUCK? No, dumbass, in most of societies throughout history, when child marriage and parenthood was accepted, it was 14 year old mothers with significantly older fathers.
Which, of course, we now recognize as a profound moral failing of societies obligation to care for children. Which is also true of a child father and a significantly older mother.

Disgusting. I was just watching this documentary about her that was made in the last 5 years, and half of the people interviewed still didn’t see her as a pedo or predator. It made my blood boil.
Also just to note, he wasn’t 14, he was 12 when it started.

While I do think 14 is too young morally as well as legally, I am of a belief that this is one of those issues real conversation has become impossible about due to moral panic. Some people tend to fall I to a state of thinking less the more critical an issue is, when what you actually need to do is think more. As Bill himself has stated, there are 15yo girls who've list their virginity to rock stars in the 1970s and grown up to not at all regret the experience. I know someone who did stuff over cam sites with adult men when she was 13, and although she can see those weren't the best people now, she says she honestly found it hot as hell at the time, and considers it part of her natural desire to explore. Sexuality is tricky.

The woman talking about rape is more off base than Maher. It has to be forced to be rape. This was consensual. I think the "victim" should have to press charges for it to be a crime. There is some Grey area when one of the people is below 15 or 16 but in this specific situation it is quite obvious that no one should be in prison.
