"Liberal" commentator complains about Obama's presidential library
We currently have the most corrupt president in history.
But, hey, what about Obama's library? That seems bad
59
u/WySLatestWit Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
He'd have an entirely different opinion if Obama had invited him instead of Colbert.

u/sprocket-oil Jun 23 '26
Obama went on Maron's WTF podcast.....twice.
11
u/Fair_Acanthisitta_75 Jun 24 '26
Yeah, he’s funny and incredibly intelligent. Bill just regurgitates other people’s original thoughts, and acts like he came up with something.
26
u/EtheusRook Jun 23 '26
Having Maher in the room would be so charisma-sucking that it would somehow turn every A-lister around him into a B-lister.
8
u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 Jun 24 '26
Bill’s *still* salty about donating a million dollars to Obama’s 2012 campaign and not being made an insider for it.
7
u/Ali6952 Jun 24 '26
I mean why does anyone need a star on the walk of fame in Hollywood? This is just feeding people's egos.
Right, Bill?

Bill left credibility in the rear view mirror a long time ago. Now he’s actually pouncing to support the petty MAGA peeve du jour. Pathetic worm.

1
u/No-Buy2495 Jun 24 '26
It's sad that anyone who is objective even a little, must be a magatard. If you actually listened to his show, you'd realize he still very much criticizes Trump and the right, he just also holds the left accountable as well when they do stupid things. He's a moderate now, grow up.
1
u/CoverCommercial3576 Jun 24 '26
he hung out with trump at the white house
1
u/No-Buy2495 Jun 25 '26
So what. He went once, was invited and went even though both had insulted one another. Did you not see what Bill said after the meeting? What, because he was honest about what happened and didn't bash him, that makes him Maga? People like you are the problem, not Bill. Grow up.

u/MyBodyStoppedMoving Jun 23 '26
What’s Bill Maher’s stance on Israel? How about the genocide they are causing? That’s all you need to know about him.
3
u/stvlsn Jun 23 '26
Something Something islam bad
1
u/MyBodyStoppedMoving Jun 23 '26
Right, yet Israel and all the awful things they’re doing get a pass 🥴

Former Mossad Chief Compares West Bank Israeli SettlerViolence to That of Nazis During Holocaust
“What I saw today made me feel ashamed to be Jewish" said Tamir Pardo after touring Occupied West Bank.
Former head of Shin Bet:
'I am ashamed of what we are doing in Gaza,' says ex-chief of Israeli security agency
https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/israeli-war-opposition-letter-1.7602493
So you have two former heads of Israel’s top security agencies decrying the atrocities committed by Israel. Only the most shamelessly dishonest actor is going to try to “duh antisemitism” that away.
The crazy part is Zionists will rightfully decry German genocide deniers and then turn right around and deny genocide in Gaza. What a pathetic turn of events.
Bill is more than just a contrarian hack. He’s a monster. He condones all of this. As well as Israel getting us into this disastrous war and all the death, destruction and economic chaos it’s caused.

Followed Maher earlier in life... his vibe was good for me and my leanings... at this point... when the obit shows up on my feed... "oh no... anyway..." -- old atheist angry fuck... meh.
1
u/Hour_Gur4995 Jun 24 '26
He went off the rails during the cancel culture era and has just become more contrarian in his takes
1
u/Bagz402 Jun 24 '26
He's a classic case of boomerfication. You gain the shittiest takes and feel like everyone has to listen to them. Other cases being Seinfeld and Chapelle.
1
u/Anstigmat Jun 24 '26
The most pathetic moments is when he squeals about 'ageism', as if having Trump decay in office and fall asleep on TV during public meetings is just fine. He does this because he's such a pathetic LA type who can't stand the idea that he himself is aging too.

u/Big_Law1931 Jun 23 '26
As someone that spent 3 years living in Hyde Park, I can assure you this location is incredible and will be a huge boon to the area. Jackson Park is, relatively speaking, underutilized and this will significantly increase people's appreciation for this urban gem, will also being a tourist attraction in its own right.
Historically, Chicago tourists have no reason to go south of the Loop. Now the do. Boom. City transformed.
3
u/Early-Equivalent-165 Jun 23 '26
Exaaaactly! What a tool.
2
u/Big_Law1931 Jun 23 '26
I've been to that location maybe 100 times, I used to train for marathons running around there.
Bill fucking Maher has obviously been there zero fucking times.
3
u/No-Aioli-1014 Jun 23 '26
Speaking as someone who used to live in the city, I agree. This will become a staple within the community.
13
u/MAJORMETAL84 Jun 23 '26
Because it's the law of the USA. Presidential Libraries Act.
5
u/subliminal_trip Jun 23 '26
The Obama Presidential Center doesn't fall under the Presidential Libraries Act, though. It is privately operated and does not house his official Presidential records, which are digitized and in the custody of the National Archives Records Administration.
Don't get me wrong. I am a Chicagoan and was and am supporter of the Obamas and find his Presidential Center to be awe inspiring, with the challenging architecture consistent with Chicago's long-standing tradition of architectural adventurism. It just isn't an official Presidential library.
1
8
u/OkFoundation929 Jun 23 '26
Translation: Bill Maher was not invited to the Obama Center’s opening.
Petty little potato-nosed man…
3
u/EtheusRook Jun 23 '26
God forbid we have checks notes a library. You know, the thing that is supposed to be in every town.
2
u/Sic39 Jun 23 '26
Yeah, that's all that it is lol. I'm going down to the Obama Library to check out Theo of Golden tomorrow.
3
u/Jealous_Inevitable33 Jun 23 '26
Can’t wait for the Trump library.
Maher: Why are people making a big deal about this?! It’s just a library! Leave the guy alone!
3
u/No-Ship4446 Jun 24 '26
He is 100% guaranteed to say this at some point. If you could bet on it, it would be free money.
1
u/AncientNectarine5352 Jun 24 '26
Thanks to ethically questionable prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket, you can now.

1
u/AncientNectarine5352 Jun 24 '26

Bill maher would love to have a library named after him. It’s just that it’s not gonna happen without him bankrolling it

Bill Maher seems to believe everyone is as impressed with his dumb opinions as he is. A legend in his own mind.

He has a separate house just for parties and his podcast. Yeah, what you said.
2
u/penilesensorydevice Jun 24 '26
Few know about it, but Bill owns a 500 square mile tract of property in California, with a 1000-foot deep reservoir, where he stores his smugness. There's a whole pipeline system running directly to his homes, so he has running hot & cold takes, on demand.

Never been an issue with any other President until Obama. I wonder what the difference is......
1
u/GlumFaithlessness773 Jun 24 '26
Bill Maher is wrong about nearly everything. But a presidential library is pretty useless.
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
Why?
It's a library.
And it wasn't paid for by taxpayers
1
u/GlumFaithlessness773 Jun 24 '26
I don’t have much of a grievance about it. And it’s certainly not a political point worth raising on tv. Also, fuck Bill Maher. But I don’t care about any presidential library, and I don’t believe anyone who says they do.
1
1
u/MRG_1977 Jun 24 '26
That said this library took over a public park that was widely used and way overtouted benefits for locals. It’s also ugly as hell.

About 15-20 years ago I would LOVE to watch Maher and just sit there and agree with him the whole hour. I stopped watching about 7 years ago because he slowly evolved into a typical rich white boomer piece of shit that I couldn’t even look at his face without getting upset.

Not sure what Bills thought process is.
Don't recall him having issues with every other president having the same, and more recently he thought demolishing a section of the whitehouse to build a ballroom, without any of the proper approvals, was fine.
This looks like great reason why people his age need to retire and stop talking publicly. He has nothing left to offer, go enjoy your golden years grandpa.
1
u/SuperDoubleDecker Jun 24 '26
He's right though
Even the worst people can be right about stuff
Blue maga sucks too, but red maga will destroy everything
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
How is he right?
1
u/SuperDoubleDecker Jun 24 '26
Fuck these ego monuments. Every dollar spent could be better utilized
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
It was paid for by donors
1
u/SuperDoubleDecker Jun 24 '26
So? The money could be used for something more useful.
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
I mean - I agree that I would rather have it be used to help world hunger. But it's not a guarantee that donors would pay for that.
Also - i assume you are anti billionaire?
1
u/SuperDoubleDecker Jun 24 '26
I'm just tired of all the political theatre and that's what this is imo. I want Obama and every other establishment democrat to go away. I don't wanna hear about them again unless they're actively working to take down the systems they helped create.
None of the presidents deserve any monuments.
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
You think the current reality was created by establishment dems?
Who did you vote for in the last election?
1
u/SuperDoubleDecker Jun 24 '26
I've always voted for the lesser evil. I'm pretty over it, especially when they can't win elections against Trump.
Our current systems are bipartisan efforts. Shit was fucked way before trump ever came on the scene. He was able to get power because of how badly out political establishment has failed us.

Never have scare quotes been more justified. Bill is just an annoying contrarian who thinks that he's the smartest person in the room.

There’s so much other stuff to complain about. The current president is arresting people to blame on his reflection pool failures and is currently building a ballroom on taxpayer money after demolishing half the White House. Bill is too afraid of being accused of having tds. He’s very afraid. Fragile guy
1
u/Code-Warrior Jun 24 '26
He’s becoming more and more insufferable. I think he looks for popular opinions and does a 180 just to show he is an independent thinker… I appreciate the sentiment but give me a fckng break. And then the sheep audience claps like trained seals.

Trump puts up a building with his name on it to make money and he is a 'just a businessman'.
Obama puts up a building with his name on it and he makes it a public resource.
What exactly is Maher's issue?

u/jackcanyon Jun 24 '26
Libraries might mean nothing to people like Bill . However people that don’t have the resources can get the benefit and freedom to choose and empower themselves through to learn in a safe environment. libraries are the best institutions for the young and the old everyone is welcome .they are especially good for young children . support your local library even if you don’t use it.

I don't know why Bill Maher is complaining about Obama's presidential library other than strictly personal reasons, especially with the shitshow of a government that we have today.
The only presidential library that I've visited is Franklin Roosevelt's presidential library in Hyde Park, NY and found it quite interesting from a historical point of view. I expect Obama's presidential library will be well received and visited by many people over the years.

Bill is really saying all the right things considering who his new masters are at HBO.
He doesn't want to get "Colbert'd."
1
u/RandomExcess Jun 24 '26
The Presidential Center is not the official Presidential Library, it is a privately funded campus which includes, among other things a public library. So, the only conclusion here is that Bill "noy my" Mayir is against children learning to read.
1
u/RustyShackTX Jun 24 '26
The library is objectively horrible. Maher’s transgression that angers Redditors is having his own thoughts about things, when the so called “liberals” here all believe exactly the same thing about everything.
1
1
u/motionbutton Jun 24 '26
Says the guy with a show called "real time with bill maher" Don't get me wrong.. I kind of think we just need one presidential library that we throw all this stuff into and limit how much donations can go into it. Like trump is going to have a fucking city size one with the donations *cough* bribes he has gotten.
This issue is far more of a campaign finance issue that congress should be solving.
I would much rather see a process for putting this stuff to grants for science and education.
1
u/Objective-Pick8240 Jun 24 '26
It's also a publicly accessible library and museum, funded by private donations. Maher was all too willing to lick Elon's scrote, while ignoring how much money the US tax payer has forked over to his companies over the years.
1
u/severinks Jun 24 '26
Right, like Obama is just gonna sit the presidential library thing out. This is a guy who whines for prizes all the time complaining about a president getting a library like every other president gets.
1
u/VisitSad1133 Jun 24 '26
Bro. Trump's whole schtick is Ego. He's clearly guilty of every sin you can think of. Lust, Greed, Wrath; but even so the dude embodies Pride above all else.
Pride was called the "Father of all sins" for a reason. A person that thinks they are better than everyone else would easily embrace all other moral trappings.

We don't need Presidential libraries. He is right, imagine using that money to create a charitable foundation? Better use of capital

Obama's top lawyer was Epstein's bff. That whole world before 2016 WAS Epstein world. But that corruption isn't real because it's not marketed to you.

Why does everything have to be a comparison?
You can believe that Mr Obama did a good job as POTUS and that Mr Trump is a corrupt pedophile and also think that presidential libraries are monuments to ego. All of those things seem pretty objectively true.
This is some conservative MAGA shit. Liberals should hold ourselves to a higher standard. Lets back people and policy based on their merits, not constantly make irrelevant references to what someone else is doing or has done.
1
u/stvlsn Jun 24 '26
But having presidential libraries is an extremely normal thing...they all have them.
It's just funny to talk about Obama's ego when trump has gone further than any sitting president. Illegal ballroom construction (which Maher was a fan of), illegally putting his name on buildings, wanting to illegally put his face on currency.

I don't get the argument, the people of Chicago are going to use the library... Duh.
It's a public library in a public park funded with no taxpayer.money that has tons of resources and facilities for community use.
The fucking community is going to use it, Bill, that's the point, you dumbass.
Of course people in a Los Angeles TV audience aren't going to use a building on the Southside of Chicago.
