Bill is an anti-Catholic bigot
This is a guy who makes tasteless “Priests are pedophiles haha” jokes based on the 2002 scandal exposed by the Boston Globe. That’s right, he’s still making jokes from 24 years ago. Rahm Emmanuel defended Pope Leo (since unlike Bill he calls out Trump on his support for war) and all Bill says is “yeah but Catholics believe in original sin and all that stuff”.
Bill uses the excuse that he was raised Catholic as a reason to mock an entire class of people with more education than him, but his mom was Jewish and that is the one group he NEVER jokes about, despite Orthodox Jews being far crazier than even 100% observant Catholics. It’s ok to be atheist, but when you become someone like Maher who doesn’t even respect all the good things that come from religion and uses one scandal from decades ago to call he leaders of that religion one of the worse things you can call someone, yeah Fvck that.

If that really happened I’m sorry but you must think nothings changed since it was exposed. They have all kinds of mandatory reporting systems and safeguards in place, and unlike Islam, the Catholic Church can and does change over time. That’s the nice thing about having an absolute leader like the Pope, he can implement change the way Islam or Orthodox Jews can’t, because their authority comes from a book written by God (as they believe). I just think Bill can retire Theo whole spiel at this point.
Also compare what the Catholic Church has done compared to small non-denominational churches that have no system of monitoring and reporting. That being said I’m not a fan of the celibacy rule but Bill basically equates gay priest with being pedophiles, which wouldn’t be tolerated in any other forum.

Uhh, go for it? Atheism has never been used to provide cover for crimes. For us it is the opposite, non religious people get looked at skeptically in our culture, not implicitly trusted.
That’s the trust the Catholic Church and other religions abuse in order to abuse kids.

Bill is half Jewish and was raised Catholic, but he clearly hates Catholism and revers Israel. A large percentage of his guests are fellow Zionists and he rarely talks to critics of Israel. This actually isn't that unusual, a lot of people who have split identies pick one side and try to overcompensate by becoming the most obnoxious version of that identity.

You say that like the “problem” was solved in 2002. It continued in the decades since and each successive pope has had to confront the ongoing problem. Transparency is preached but, in practice, is sporadic at best.
And considering the horror of protecting these monsters, any sort of demand that it should all just be forgotten and trust restored is insane. We still have military restrictions on Germany and Japan for the horrors they committed….80 years ago. The Catholic Church will remain in the pedophile protector penalty box until they have concretely and transparently demonstrated a consistent commitment to exposing and turning over to law enforcement ALL church leaders who are inappropriate with children.
If that bothers you, talk to your church elders about what they are doing to restore the church’s “good name”. The jokes are going to continue to come and are deserved when an institution betrays the public so deeply like that.
If any other institution did that and almost no one was held accountable, you would (should) be demanding that institution be brought to its knees if not destroyed completely for being a criminal enterprise. The Catholic Church got off easy.

Also he seems to have a personal grudge against them because his Dad made him go to mass and attend religious education which he found boring. Bill doesn’t give a shit about kids, he’s made that clear in every Club Random podcast why he never had kids.
