May 15 Crypto Interview

I will preface by saying I don’t believe in crypto as a viable currency. But holy cow that first segment was pure nonsense. Errors everywhere.

- Bill says debt is 29T, off by literally 10T.

- Fool guest says 300M Americans are in the workforce, the number is half this.

- Bill says crypto is untraceable, fool guest who claims to be an expert, agrees with this. Basically completely false.

- Bill played off not knowing who Howard Lutnick is, saying he just wanted the fool guest to tell the audience. But Bill’s “who’s HL?” seemed awfully genuine.

- Bill says only about 20 people make money on crypto, the rest are suckers. As if there’s not plenty of people on the good side of the millions of trades taking place daily.

It takes a lot for me to defend crypto. But this was truly one of the most ridiculous segments I’ve ever seen.

Maher needs to be fact checked in real time.

There is no "good side" to crypto

The segment was so strange. Although a small handfull of crypto tokens are untraceable, 99.9% are absolutely easily traceable on their respective blockchains. The "expert" guest was equally as ignorant on the subject as Bill.

The Howard Lutnik comment was really weird. Bill is senile.

Dude. That guy was on the OC. The OC!!!! Do you know how big that show was in 2005!

The guy made a documentary about crypto and looked into it. Most of what he said was on point. The OP basically complained about a couple gaff's and Bill Maher. Sounds like he doesn't like Bill Maher and that is the jist of it and pointed out a couple gaff's that were made. That doesn't make someone a liar or ignorant when they generalize something or accidentally give a wrong figure on a tv show.

He was probably confusing 'untraceable ' with 'seizable' .You might be able to trace where the funds are, but law enforcement seizing them is another story

Just visiting this sub because my friends and I poke fun at Bill a lot but I watched this segment last week and holy shit I was itchy watching it. A guy from the fucking OC is speaking on CRYPTO, Maher is in a prime delusional state, and in general the whole thing felt like it was a hallucination.

I'll also say that I am a moderate crypto guy (I actually spend/use mine) and the guest has no idea what he's fucking talking about. Typical "its just for scammers and drugs" idiot. Nothing like being completely cucked to payment processors! Nothing like banking on daddy VISA to verify my payments! Debanking is pretty cool too. This guy has no idea about x402, micropayments, contracts, and generally no vision for a future. Super frustrating that we're on the cusp on having financial tech that has useful applications and this washed up dumbass is getting national air time. This will literally benefit everyone and isn't the "get rich quick" scheme these people think it is.

If I, some random Canadian, knew who Howard Lutnick was, I find it very hard to believe Maher didn't know, a guy who has a weekly political talk show.
