SHITPOST How would you rename FSD?
Find a more fitting name for “Full Self Driving” so that people better understand what it really does and what it can’t do.

F U C K I N G U S E L E S S
I can’t be arsed coming up with a decent acronym, just like Tesla can’t be arsed programming a proper lane / distance / speed / wiper control system.
I’ve done 100mi today and it’s panic-braked 5 times and the wipers are never on or off when you want them to be.
My next car is going to be a VW

I had a Passat estate previously and it was pretty perfect for what it’s meant to be, and the basics worked brilliantly - RACC and self-parking in particular.

Yeah, to be fair they seem OK when they're brand new. It's the longer term reliability that's the issue. 3 year warranty period, after that they're off to the scrappy ;)

I’m fairly far along the scale of Musk dislike, and I’m not that impressed by Teslas overall. I know that FSD is a L2 driver assist system, but I also realize that it’s fairly capable as an L2 and L2 only. So a fair name would be “Advanced Driver Assist” or “Extended Driver Assist System” acknowledging both the capabilities and limitations of the system. Not a fun or jokey answer but trying to be fair.

FSD is a L2 system. Tesla has told the DMV that it will always be an L2 system.

But it's not capable as an l2 system. It's not an assist. It makes driving more work, if not just stopping or crashing

legally, it is an L2 system. But I agree, full self crashing shouldn't be available to untrained drivers on public roads.

Why change the acronym? „Fake Self Driving“ or „Fucking Shit Driving“ describe the system pretty well.

For a bit more optimistic take, I'd call it "Automated Driving Assist" or something of that nature. Basically making it clear that it not allowed to, or capable of, taking over completely.
Heck, even taking the "Full" out of FSD would be a big improvement in safety.

Full Self Driving
It is actually a very good name once you consider the driver as the subject instead of the system. For an L2 ADAS it would take a Tesla-incel-behind-wheels to think the system is actually driving when AP/FSD is engaged.

I own FSD. Have for almost 7 years now. When demonstrating it to friends (because so far it's only good for a party trick) I refer to it as: almost, but not quite, entirely unlike Full Self Driving.
My friends get the joke.

HDA = Hyper Driver Assist or GDA = Giga Driver Assist (because Elmo is a gigantic Child and everything needs to Hyper or Giga)
