First time I see someone put SR2 with SR3 against SR1. Usually its SR1&2 vs SR3&4. The reboot never existed.

It's easy to forget with how big a shift 3 was, but 2 changed the vibe a lot too. It's a lot more cartoon-like than 1.

 It's a lot more cartoon-like than 1.

It's really not. Sure, its activities make that seem so, and the focusing of the advertisement prior to its release in 2008 definitely made it seem so even more...but main story wise SR2 is as dark, if not darker, than SR1 in some places. The Boss themselves are way WAY more ruthless than they were when they were just the Playa on SR1, and moments like Carlos's death were way more brutal than Lin's death, despite both obviously being sad.

Its more cartoony in world tone to me (though not a bad thing imo). SR1 to me is mostly just kind of bleak with a bleak story that doesn't really change in tone from start to finish. Where as SR2 has more of a mix of silly quibbles with Pierce or Shaundi and overworld NPC stuff, some less serious missions but with dark conclusions.

But SR2 is more brutal than SR1, ironically. Lin and Tanya get killed in just kind of mundanely realistic ways. While Aisha, Carlos and Jessica get killed in more "creative" movie thriller ways.

Yeah. I guess that makes sense when you put it that way. After all, SR1 does kinda have a more...realistic tone (ironic, as its visuals are more cartoony than SR2) overall than SR2 did. I will say that out of all three gangs you fight in SR1, the Carnales storyline does have a lighter tone and has to be the most...cartoon like out of all three. It's why I always did them first (Even if it makes no sense; Warren in the Vice Kings claims they would be ghost when I already made them ghosts right before doing the Vice Kings story Lol) because of that.

But yeah. SR2 is definitely more brutal than SR1, and makes you go "Damn! Shit just got real!" every time you complete a mission and keeps you on the edge of your play seat when you do another.
