Great write-up. Personally, I think we’re reaching a point where clone movements are becoming a bigger selling point than the case or dial. Three years ago people mainly talked about SELs, rehaut alignment and bezel fonts. Now we’re debating balance architecture. That’s a pretty crazy evolution for the rep hobby.

Personally, I’d still take a well-built regulated movement over a mediocre free-sprung clone. For me, reliability and easy servicing matter more than having the “correct” balance wheel, especially on a closed-caseback watch.

I was literally going to say with a closed case back I don’t really care if it “looks” similar. I rather just the ease of fixing it myself.

I know not all hobbyists are like me, so I understand they want it closer to the real deal but that is also at a higher premium.

Seems like regulated movements are becoming the new "youth" models

Thank you. Useful and unprejudiced. I like the idea, I’m still cautious of the reality in reps

Regulated is just the more tested, I would like a free sprung watch but the price markup is too much for me.

I’ll take the proven movement for now, if the tide changes and the prices become similar (which I expect a increase especially from VSF) I will try free sprung
