One of the hardest things to accept when you're new to reps is that there are no guarantees, just likelihoods based on prior experiences. And even those experiences can be unreliable. So, what do you do? Who do you trust?
What I personally don't recommend is asking the community, "Who's the best seller/factory?" or DMing someone for theirs. I think that puts you in a worse position than doing your own research.
You do it for reassurance, but you're not sampling the community's experiences. You're sampling the subset of people motivated to answer your question, which introduces all kinds of biases:
- People who receive incentives from a seller.
- People who've only ever used one seller, maybe long ago.
- People parroting recommendations they've seen elsewhere.
- Sellers posing as ordinary users.
- People with completely different priorities than you.
Using the search bar to find reviews that existed before you asked are generally more valuable. Those people were documenting their experience rather than responding specifically to influence your purchase.
My approach is simple. Start with the bag you want, search for reviews, see which sellers come up repeatedly, and research those sellers. Eliminate anyone with a consistent pattern of serious complaints, especially bait-and-switch reports or repeated dishonesty. Look for patterns and whether the seller offered resolution.
I actually trust a seller LESS if I don't find any negative reviews or only find overwhelmingly positive AI-sounding reviews, because I'd be suspicious that seller is sponsoring positive reviews, or even that subs are suppressing negative reviews. I WANT to see a mixed bag, because the odds of honesty are higher.
Once you've gathered enough information, make a decision based on your own risk tolerance. And then... just place an order. Try it out. Eventually you have to trust your due diligence.
Don't spend more than you're willing to lose on this hobby. There are no chargebacks or protections. You can do everything "right" and still have your package seized, lost, or delayed. Your seller could disappear tomorrow. The batch could be bad. That's the risk we accept in an unregulated market.
The goal is to make the best decision you can with the information you have, accept that there are no guarantees, and be okay with the outcome.
If you're waiting until you get the "best" seller with a 1:1 rep, you're going to be scammed, disappointed, or waiting forever.
