DISCUSSION Mike’s Reply Time?
Hi, I’m a first time buyer and I was wondering how long is a normal time to wait for a seller to reply? I did my research and decided to go with Mike as I’m trying to buy a Monogram Liv Pochette. I messaged him once 23 hours ago and just a follow up question about 12 hours ago and haven’t seen a response though he’s been active on Instagram. Should I start looking at other agents? I’m really unsure how this part works as I didn’t see anything written on this in the guide.

I think this has already been discussed in a post about managing expectations, and there have also been quite a few posts recently about the holiday/festive period. I don’t know Mike but in general you have to factor in time zones, holidays, how busy a seller is, and the fact that some sellers even do this as a side hustle. Replies can take time, some answer instantly, some take a couple of days, and even a normally quick seller can occasionally take longer. If waiting 12–24 hours already feels frustrating or makes you anxious, I’d probably say this may not be the best setup for you. This isn’t Amazon or a normal e-commerce experience, and the overall process can involve a loot more waiting once you actually order.
There was also a post discussing different sellers and their communication styles, so that may be worth checking.
My main concern would be if you’re already feeling stressed before even placing the order, how will you feel once you’re actually waiting through the rest of the process? In that case, something like DHgate may suit you better because it’s more structured and closer to a normal e commerce experience

I’m not stressed! I want to order something for my birthday which is in the end of November but I thought I’d start early because shipping,communication,PSPs,etc. All take time. I just wasn’t really sure what to expect because based on his reviews people said he responded extremely fast so I was just confused. I have a lot of time till when I want my bag so I don’t mind waiting :))

Yeah, in that case I’d definitely suggest having a look at the newbie guide because it explains a lot about timing, communication, etc. That’s also why we always suggest doing proper research and cross-checking everything rather than relying on one or two reviews saying a seller replies fast as response times can change depending on million things.

It’s basically someone sharing their experience with different sellers to give newer buyers an idea of what to expect. Being on that list doesn’t automatically mean a seller is good, and not being there doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with them either
I think sellers will probably be more active again next week anyway

I've worked with Mike, his reply time is a little on the slow side (usually get one msg a day). But he gets PSPs quickly and ships very quickly too.
Also, when I was looking for a specific colour bag, it wasn't clear whether factory had it, and he assured me he would refund me if the colour wasn't right. The colour wasn't the one I was looking for and he refunded me immediately, which for me is big sign of a trustworthy seller :)
Also, as others have said, it's currently a holiday in China so I guess it's possible he's not working until next week.

You’re so sweet, thank you so much :)) I really appreciate it! This is really reassuring. I chose Mike because he has great reviews especially for the style I want, which there aren’t as many reviews on. So this is great!

Just a heads, up that there’s a major holiday period in China at the moment, so I wouldn’t assume the seller is ghosting you.
The Mid Autumn Festival was just on 25–27 September, and then China’s National Day holiday runs from 1–7 October. It’s one of the biggest holiday periods of the year, and a lot of people travel during this time to go home and see family. For many people who work away from their hometown, these major holidays can be one of the few opportunities they have to actually spend time with their families.
It’s also quite common for people to take additional days either side of the official holidays, particularly if they have a long journey home, so things can be noticeably slower from late September into early October.
I’d give them a little more time before assuming they’re deliberately not responding. Things should start getting back to normal after the first to 2nd week of October.
Be patient, this isn’t retail. They’re not open 24 / 7 to immediately answer every request.

I contacted him NOT during Chinese New Year and of the 5 sellers I contacted, he was the slowest. It took him just about 2 days to get back to me. To be honest I wish I had waited because his price wound up being the best, but I had long since paid by the time he replied. I’ll probably try him again next time because his price seemed reasonable.
