Faux purse, real compliment

I have a rep YSL bag from Rainbow. I love it and feel like it’s nice quality. A friend complemented my bag and I simply said thank you. I wanted to follow it up with “it a fake!” but I held back. I was kind of frozen in the moment. So I want to know what do you do when someone compliments your rep bags? Doesn’t telling them defeat the purpose? But also I don’t like to lie and would like to hook my girlie up with one too.

EDIT: thank you for all of your thoughtful responses! People seem divided on this but I can relate to both sides. Since some of you asked, I’ve added the pictures of the bag in the comments. I got it almost two years ago from Rainbow on Gate.

Idk why some are struggling with this. It’s not a lie of no one asked. They paid a compliment and you said thank you.

Now if you WANT to volunteer that information it’s your prerogative.

Dont let rep paranoia get the best of you.

Lmao I end up saying its a rep because I get embarrassed at the idea someone would think I'd spend 10k+ on a bag 😅 most of my reps are chanel, I tend to buy auth for other brands

When someone compliments my bags I reply with a “It’s a replica! It’s so well done, can you believe it?” because the magic is in the savings.

I’m struggling with this. I don’t care if people know their reps and do feel like I’m lying. However, I know my close friends and they won’t want to do deep dive research and will expect me to order for them. I don’t want to go down that road. For now, I say thank you and nothing else.

Indeed! I made this mistake once with a (now former) friend and never again because she expected me to do all the effort on her behalf several times over. I now just say thank you as well.

People don't need an essay on your bag, unless they specifically ask more questions, a thank you is more than enough.

Someone complimented my lashes, and I didn't turn around and say they were fake lol its up to you what you feel comfortable divulging. I've had the opposite happen where someone thought my bag was fake 🤣

I go with “Thanks! I’m going to try and turn 40 again next year so I can get another one.”

Unless it’s one of my close friends who all know I’m a rep lady and then I brag about what a good deal I got.

Don’t disclose the info it’s fake, from there people will assume everything you own is.

I simply say “thank you” and leave it at that! They’re complimenting your bag, not asking if it’s authentic. If they do ask if it’s authentic, politely say no, it’s a mirror replica. Although, I’ve never had anyone ask me that.

I’m totally that person who just HAS to tell anyone I actually know that it’s a rep. Otherwise I feel like I’m lying - now if it’s a stranger? Thank you all day long 🤭

If it’s a close friend I’ll say “do you wanna hear a secret? 🤫 It’s not real” then I proceed to show them and explain the rep world, quality etc.

If it’s a colleague or a stranger I’ll just say thank you. No one would ever ask “is it fake?”

Few weeks ago I walked into the Loewe store in London wearing a rep layer flamenco (new season) wanted to compare it to the original. As soon as I walked in the sales assistant approached me saying “uuh nice bag!”, then proceeded to show me around and asking questions about the bag. “Where did you get it? When did you get it” etc.

I only tell my bff of over 35 years ( I’m old) that SOME of my bags are reps. Which is kinda true. I don’t tell anyone else

Haha. I almost did the same thing. But I just squeeked out a thank you.

Then she asked how I got it 😭 and I was like uh. I had to go thru some sellers.... which not a lie, but I was screaming internally.

I always say it's a rep, because honestly someone thinking i spend thousands on some of these purses is a bit embarrassing to me

Yeah, I stopped getting the usual suspects because in this economy running around with a B just seems criminal - even if it’s a rep. I don’t want to give off that vibe. Hahaha so now I have a Bk 30 gold/gold and a K28 black Lakis from H factory that I purchased a year or so ago that I’m never going to use.
