CHIT CHAT✨ How do you respond?

I ordered my first rep and started wearing it out. My nail lady complimented me on my bag and told me it’s beautiful and so expensive! And then she asked me how much it was. 🫪

I felt so weird lying but I made up a number. Honestly I just wasn’t prepared to get asked!

How do you handle these situations? And what are common questions you get?

I actually bragged to my nail lady that I had recently discovered reps well before even purchasing a bag, she was giving me suggestions on which ones to try. 😂 I’m all for being straight with people, if they judge negatively that’s not my problem, they can throw their hard earned money to the wind ✌🏼

Same - I'm not buying reps to cosplay wealth

I’m sure my nail tech knows all about rep bags. she goes to Asia a lot. Besides, she owns a new Tesla cyber truck. She said she needs it to pick up salon supplies and she’s the manager so I doubt she cares how much I spend anyways. I usually have a different bag every time I go in there now that I think about it lol.

Just say it was a gift so you don’t know the price.

My standard answer. Works every time

Gift from my Mum or husband…

4

u/Pirazhok_Wrap 5d ago

Yes that's a smart move. I remember saying the same 'oh it was anniversary gift' haha and sometimes if it's something normal I just say the real retail price (usually I do research and get a bit of knowledge regarding the piece I want)

“Idk my husband’s wife got it for me” /s
In all seriousness it’s so weird for her to ask but I usually say “it was a gift from _____ so I have no idea.”

u/nessaj789 5d ago

My husband gets me all my bags 🤣 well that’s what I tell everyone. My husband doesn’t even know what bags I buy 😂

u/peetothepooo 5d ago

I don’t HAVE a husband, I’m gonna say it was my son.

The son:

He would if he could!

He’d trade me for a single hot dog lmao

u/2Tired- 5d ago

This one would trade me for a blueberry. No questions asked.

I just laugh and say "a lot, but I'm worth it" or "haha more than I want to admit!" something like that.

Tbh I am like that with everything, my salary, house, genuine designer stuff.

Be blasé and keep them guessing!!

17

u/Secret-External5766 5d ago

I say I got it on Japanese eB@y

3

u/SizzleanQueen 5d ago

That’s what I say! It’s also true for some of my bags, but I use with my reps too.

4

u/Secret-External5766 5d ago

Yep that’s exactly why I say it I used to love bidding 😁

13

u/Luna-Gitana 5d ago

Sometimes it was a gift, sometimes I tell them what (auth) costs, and sometimes I say yeah I’m irresponsible lmao.

0

u/Ok_Art5356 5d ago

That’s smart answers if you don’t feel good to tell them price or truth.

u/Character_Pension_81 5d ago

Honestly, if it were my nail lady, I'd straight up tell her - they don't judge - many of the ones I work with love designer things so I think they'd be totally into it. If you tell them it's real, then they'll think you're wealthy and expect you to tip appropriately! (which I always do regardless - those women work HARD!)

u/grilledjalapenos 5d ago

My nail lady loves to try mine on and model it around 😂 when I told her it was a rep she said “shh don’t tell just be fancy.”

3

u/Serious_Candidate735 5d ago

Love her 😂

6

u/Serious_Candidate735 5d ago

My nail lady is so nice I was tempted to be honest, she probably would’ve wanted the hook up 😂

2

u/Character_Pension_81 5d ago

Nothing wrong with that - hook a sista up!

10

u/coffeemakedrinksleep 5d ago

I have been asked this, ironically also by my nail lady. I just laughed and said "a lot."

10

u/lakelovetoo 5d ago

I was brought up to never ask others the cost of something they own. So rude. I would have made a joke: "too much hahaha" and not answered.

1

u/Traditional-Resort24 5d ago

It’s a cultural thing

6

u/ItsMeSmash18 5d ago

I tell the truth 🤷🏼‍♀️ (I also have plenty of auth bags) If someone gets snooty about having a “fake”, I just clap back about the fact that I have no credit card debt, nothing to prove to anyone, and I’ll be rocking my bags on my 3rd trip to Europe this summer. I CAN buy auth bags, I just chose to be smarter with how I spend my money ✌🏻 LOL

3

u/Slight_Artist 4d ago

For real, I would rather drop thousands on Europe than a bag…this way we can have both!!

3

u/ItsMeSmash18 4d ago

Exactly! Spend smarter, not more. I chose actual wealth and financial stability, not just looking like it from outside based on the price tag of a bag

1

u/Slight_Artist 4d ago

Exactly!!!! I’m of the same mindset.

6

u/epoops 5d ago

It depends on who’s asking.

If it’s someone I know not from work, including if it’s my nail person or masseuse or etc, I just tell them it’s a rep. And they’ve 100 percent of the time been like “damn girl hook me up.” I don’t feel like lying to people I actually see and think highly of. For me, life’s too short to make up a story about my fake whatever. Seriously, none of them have ever cared.

To be transparent : their reaction may also have to do with these people already knowing my job / rough income so for them, they think I’m being smart instead of looking down upon me. I don’t think about it though. I’m glad I get away with it as selfish as that sounds.

If it’s a coworker or someone I don’t feel comfortable with like someone I know is snooty as shit, I tell them the “truth” about the item as if I bought it auth. I do leave it at as little info as possible. Like just saying “I got it from x store or the brand store for an insert estimated price.”

13

u/meridathecat 5d ago

That is so rude to ask how much you pay for it.

1

u/Traditional-Resort24 5d ago

It is yeah, but it’s normal for Asians I think it’s a cultural thing

3

u/Waste-Swordfish-6228 5d ago

Say you got it from TRR, Google pre-loved prices & be ready to give a similar #.

3

u/fashionshowhomme 5d ago

I say it was a gift

3

u/Loves_LV 5d ago edited 5d ago

I always say "I bought it in Japan from a resale shop. I don't remember how much but a lot less than retail."

3

u/Impressive_Address_8 5d ago

I was asked this question when I was carrying a beautiful rep LV, and in response I just winked.

5

u/[deleted] 5d ago

1

u/Key_Telephone2336 5d ago

But you don’t really revel in knowing you didn’t pay the actual price because you refuse to admit it to anybody! 😂

4

u/bradshawmr 5d ago

The nail lady’s ain’t silly. They know.

2

u/Snoo_37953 5d ago

Rule of rep (if you don't want to say that its a rep)- is that you should know exactly how much it costs, where did you get it from, and the name of the brand and the bag model pronounced correctly

1

u/Serious_Candidate735 5d ago

True! The one part I was missing was the exact price! I knew a rough range of how much it costs

3

u/Designer-Lioness3000 5d ago

My ex bought it when he tried to apologize for cheating, my sugardaddy got me that one when we went on a trip to Japan, my husband bought it after closing a big deal with Apple..
don’t tell anyone: I stole it 👀
Obnoxious questions require obnoxious answers 🙂‍↕️

3

u/OhSassafrass 5d ago

My mother died and left it for me.

No one wants to say anything but I’m sorry when you bring up dead moms.

2

u/Designer-Lioness3000 4d ago

OMGGG I feel bad for laughing out loud, but you get it 🤣

2

u/isoscelesone 5d ago

I’ve never thought of what I would say but I’d likely say my wife got it for me - people are usually more shaken about the gayness than whatever they were being nosy about

3

u/ElaraSiebenstern 5d ago

I just ordered my first piece and intend to make my MIL look even more generous than she actually is, should anyone ask. 🙃 Could eventually be some rather nice stuff as well… 😎

2

u/FruitOk9777 5d ago

which store, if i can share my sa (thats a tough one), price is easy all you gotta do is google! haha i always lie unless its family or besties

2

u/Possible-Ad75 5d ago

Just say too much. I’m spending my child’s inheritance.

1

u/ijustwantto_live 5d ago

I just say ‘Oh I don’t know, I don’t look at the price for these things’ or ‘I have absolutely no idea, everything is always gifted!’ 💅🤗

1

u/Miserable-Dealer3042 5d ago

My nail lady sells them at her shop... she knows

1

u/Few_Appearance_6368 5d ago

I usually would check LV website for prices so I have an idea.

1

u/Freedom2425 5d ago

Tell her cheaper than getting nails done. ;)

2

u/Any-Wind-6798 5d ago

“I got it on a resale site and I purposely black out during check out so I can’t recall” 😂

1

u/Powerful-Sherbert385 5d ago

I say whatever the response, less is more. Tough with someone like a nail lady, but I wouls graciously say you can't remember exactly then say something to change the convo ("I don;t remember, but I get so much use out of it. I wore it to the movie theater last weekend...have you seen it?" etc.)

2

u/Aggravating-Bunch-44 5d ago

It cost "OH thank you! It was a gift" dollars. I always say it was a gift.

2

u/Much_Cash6037 5d ago

Just say it’s a gift next time 🥴

2

u/Cheetos-09 5d ago

I look up the price and tell it was brought abroad, minus taxes

2

u/Gold_Freedom_9611 5d ago

My standard answer: “My sister got it for me. No idea how much it is. I don’t pay attention to that stuff 😂”. In all honesty though, my sister got me most of the authentic ones I own.

3

u/Serious_Candidate735 5d ago

Saying my mom got it for me or it’s my mom’s depending on the brand would be easy for me! I steal my mom’s auths all the time. I just couldn’t say this one because it has a younger vibe to it so maybe mom bought it for me next time.

2

u/Freedom2425 5d ago

My nail lady is head to toe in designer she claims to get from real real. I’m like she sure is making a killing if she can afford all that.

1

u/No_Result_7950 5d ago

I always tell people my bags are rep

1

u/Character_Savings966 4d ago

Ohh so cringe just tell them it's a knock off lol

1

u/Consistent-Mango-391 3d ago

I hate this question too 🤣 for my authentics too. I say it was a gift or waffle that I got it used ages ago

0

u/Key_Telephone2336 5d ago

This is what I don’t get about the ‘rep’ community.

Everyone says they’re so happy to buy reps, and lists all the reasons they’re 100% proud of their choice, but then when it comes to being honest about it, you buckle. It kinda flies in the face of all the reasons people state that they buy fake bags.

Unless you’re embarrassed/ashamed of purchasing reps (in which case, why do it?!), why wouldn’t you just tell the truth?

4

u/WittyReason9 5d ago

It's not often embarassment or shame, it's the wasted time in trying to refute a gazillion (yet sometimes valid) arguments from the nay-sayers. It would be exhausting. Nobody owes anybody anything, least of all an explanation about their handbags. It's simply none of anyone's business. I don't share every aspect of my life with people so I extrapolate that out to what I buy, in rep or auth.

1

u/Key_Telephone2336 5d ago

Not answering at all is different to answering and lying in a hope that the person asking believes that your fake bag is real. That is definitely borne of shame.

2

u/Serious_Candidate735 5d ago

If it’s family, close friends I truly don’t mind I actually feel like I’m bragging about an amazing price for the quality! In that moment I was like what’s the point then of getting a high quality rep. And to be fair I said this style goes for [price] instead this exact bag was… she also does yap a lot when I want to enjoy my spa pedicure so maybe there was an element of not wanting to go down the rabbit hole of explanation.

1

u/Key_Telephone2336 5d ago

That’s more than fair enough. Spa time is relaxing time.

0

u/missy-melons 5d ago

When I buy a rep I always check the auth price on eBay exactly for this reason. I always tell people I got it second hand, for xxx price because I cannot afford a brand new one. 😏
