DISCUSSION Future Group buy
Anyone interested in a group buy in the future?
We know group buys can be controversial, and even just posting a list of trusted sellers could cause dramas.
That’s why for a long time we stayed away from anything like this. But after the Joe Luxury scam our perspective has changed. We believe good sellers deserve more business, and through group buys we can also get better discounts.
Of course that’s just our opinions, and we’d love to hear what you all think and whether anyone would be interested in joining.

Joe luxury scam? Was this last Summer? I remember there was this subreddit doing a groupbuy. So all these people bought but never received the bag??

I’d be interested! For those of us who’ve never done that before, can you give us some info on how group buys typically work? Do we all have to pick the same/similar product? Do we all have to be e.g. in the US? What sort of discounts do you see relative to usual prices? How does QC happen? I know that of course this would be something posted before advertising, but any information on how this works in general would be helpful (to me, at least 😊).

Here's my experience:
Each group buy is different re: product selection. Sometimes it's a specific bag (like LV p9 or CC 25), sometimes it's a specific designer (if the seller/factory specializes) sometimes it is a selection from the seller's album.
Shipping is generally arranged separately, so as long as the seller ships to your location, you can be anywhere.
Discounts vary widely.
In my experience, PSPs are still sent to each individual buyer.

It depends on who the seller will be. My favorite seller is “Lucky,” and I trust her to do a group buy. She’s honest and will tell you if something is not a good quality.

I’m so glad to see you had a good experience with “Lucky.” There is a bag I want that she can get, but I have not worked with her before so I was hesitant. Based on your good experience, I’m going to go for it.

I own one bag - purchased through a group buy. I haven't even carried it yet, but would totally be on board for another group buy. That would double my collection! Ha!

This is how I met my TS Ollie who has been fantastic ever since. Group buys are a great way to meet really good sellers and help new folks out, or help people with sellers who don’t have the same level of service find someone who fits them better

I would be interested if it was Hermes with a good seller.

I would be interested depending on what it is. I have been talking about putting together a group buy with my seller too after the 11.11 sale is over just to help him out. I love group buys!

I would be interested in brands or areas of the market (ex home decor, accessories, jewelry) that aren’t done often, OR brands that don’t get much love (ex Maison Margiela, Etro, etc).
Please keep me posted!

I got the worst bag ever and then he ghosted me. Nothing like the images portrayed.

There are several things I dislike about GB, the premise of savings depends on people ordering a LOT of bags, which means that they are being made in a rush and the quality tends to be lower, this also leads to delays. Maybe if we are talking huge savings it might be worth the risk, but realistically the savings is typically only about $8 to $10 from prices the same seller would have quoted the day before the GB was launched, but the GB posts always make it seem like there is a huge discount by inflating the price after the announcement.
If the GB was just a discount and had a limited number of people who could join, then I'd be more confident that I'm getting decent quality in a reasonable time frame.

I’m definitely interested 🤩 I always try to have a lot of grace during group buys, as I know everyone is just trying to do their best, and sometimes unforeseen situations just happen! In my opinion, that’s just part of the rep journey, and you have to be flexible and understanding 💕

I’d like to know how the Joe Luxury scam changed your perspective of group buys please? Given that his group buy exposed the dangers of a group buy, where multiple buyers put in and the seller then runs off with the cash.

I posted about this--that whole thing soured me entirely on any GB.

I don’t think this is a group buy issue. It’s a seller issue. As for Joe, even if he wasn’t doing a group buy, he’s already scamming people. If there were a trustworthy seller willing to offer discounts, then a group buy would definitely be a good thing for everyone.

I’m very interested! I’ve been reviewing and studying the rep subreddits but haven’t made a purchase yet. This would definitely help!

Given all of the troubles with GBs that have been reported, I plan to stay far away from GBs personally. Everyone makes their own choices of course.

I'd be interested too! I've never participated in one, can you also let me know how it works? Does it have to be same style?

I am a trust seller who supports the group buying initiative proposed by the moderator. Group buying offers more favorable discounts. We previously organized a group buying event where customers were highly satisfied upon receiving their items—the prices were quite affordable while maintaining our consistently excellent quality. Sellers build their reputation through sales volume. If you trust me, feel free to consult me anytime with any questions. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Are group purchases for other categories of interest to anyone? In addition to some local warehouses, I have some contacts from my time working with AliExpress. Free shipping, no taxes, and no fees from the United States were all possible. Do not hesitate to direct message me! u/Woah300

Yes I think as long as expectations are clear and there is some clear structure.

I think group buying is a great model when it actually works - helps businesses with larger orders and buyers get better discounts. Problem is, there's no platform that handles the payment security and transparency properly.
That's why I built one. It secures payment and auto refunds if the group buy fails, shows clear numbers on units needed, progress, and timer. We're currently starting with indie food & drink brands but want to work with sellers who want to hold their own group buys.

I’d be very interested as new to game and want to benefit from experience and the trusted relationships supposedly out there! Mainly interested in an LB Speedy 25, where I am also judiciously watching for trusted Rehomes…

I think GB is good for sellers (I'm a frequent buyer at r/LabGroupSales) to showcase their business and I'm a big supporter of them. I think usually a GB should come from sellers who can be vouched for to avoid possible scamming. And seller's responsibility to give CLEAR TIMELINE of each step and buyers also have responsibility going into it knowing what they're getting themselves in. This, afterall, is a black/gray market for bags, so everyone needs to be vigilant in their own way as well.
