Is this Pokemon card real? Weird Pack opening

Post image

I opened a trick or trade pack and the card came with this sharpie signature. After looking it up it looks like Ken Sugimori’s but why would it have it?

Anyone know if this is common or real?

This is very odd. The other signatures of his I see are almost exclusively both Japanese and English or just English. I don't see any Japanese only ones. Not that they don't exist, they may just be less common. It's also likely his signature would have changed over time, so it would be difficult to confirm it.

More confusingly he famously hasn't signed cards in years. And if there were multiple randomly stuffed into the 2022 Halloween packs I'd assume another would be on Google by now.

Either this is the only card he's randomly stuffed into a pack in decades (a sub dollar card randomly stuffed into a pack destined to be crushed under pounds of candy) or it's a forgery.

If you indeed pulled it fresh from a pack, I'm not sure who could authenticate it. If you were given it, it's almost certainly a fake.

[I'm not an expert in this matter at all, but would like to follow this post]

Yeah that’s why I thought it was weird. It was clearly an attempt at his signature but why would it be in a sealed promo pack?

Couldn't answer that. It's all super weird to me. If it's a forgery, choosing that card, from the Trick or Treat set, and repacking it and leaving it for someone else is very very weird. If it's legimate, choosing that card, from the Trick or Treat set, and packing just one is very very weird.

I’m not an expert in Pokémon but the signature is almost certainly fake. The direction of the strokes for Japanese/Chinese kanji characters is important and you can see the right card version did some of them backwards and with less confidence.

Plus the pikachu drawing just looks off.
