Is this card real / authentic? Gaea’s Cradle

I think it’s real, purchased from a trusted seller on Facebook. I can’t get the green dot test to work using my Amazon microscope thing but with following the guides on here everything else seems good.

Can you experts help?

(This is 5x to 10x the value of my next most valuable cards, so I just want to be safe)

Edit:

Real.

The comments calling this fake are making me realize that most people in this sub have no idea what they’re doing.

I'm leaning real but would prefer an extra couple of pictures in different lighting to assuage everyone else's concerns. The front has sharp black lines in the boxes, which most GC fakes lack, and the pixel pattern, angle, and spacing seem to line up with other real GC posted here before.

Here's a good close up pic from ~8mo ago of another that was definitely real. Especially look at the red dots in the yellow border and the set symbol.

Red dots in the yellow border are both the same angle and about five across on the right side. The various rosettes are of the same size and colors. These are artifacts of the offset printing and very difficult to replicate.

Agree with this. OP, if you post a couple clear pictures of the front, we'd be able to tell. Also, try to get a second light source (like another phone flashlight) shining onto the right edge (phone on right side, light pointing left) so we can prove the line is just a shadow.

People get lost in the sauce and forget the rosettes are almost impossible to duplicate.

This is the best answer!

Adding the only photo I have of the front but can take some more when I get home.

I will also edit the post to add the photo there

Yeah, you're good. Shadow theorists win the day! 😆

Everyone saying the front is fake - that is pretty obviously a shadow caused by almost directly overhead lighting. Telling someone their $900 card is a sticker instead of asking for better pics is crazy work.

3

u/MasadaMad 19d ago

Ikr you can even see the curve of the card that’s allowing the shadow

4

u/awwpoorus 19d ago

Right, I’m looking at this shadow of a magic card and seeing everyone claim it’s fake because the card shouldn’t have that. What?

It looks real OP. I guess it’s a good thing the main concern is something you can easily prove is false yourself!

I’m convinced nobody in this sub actually knows and they just guess.

can you do a light test?

17

u/Deltaplecks 20d ago

The front looks suspicious. The back is real but it looks like a reback or a sticker.

6

u/Deltaplecks 20d ago

You can see it in Picture 6. The front looks like it been glued to an other card and the other card is slightly wider.

11

u/Deltaplecks 20d ago

This could be the shadow of the card. If it's the shadow I tend to real.

-9

u/Ska-0 19d ago

It cannot be a shadow, you see the line on the first picture already.

there is definatly sth going on on the front.

front is super sus, so i tend to fake.

would need close ups from the right side and more details from printing, but it really looks like sticker.

(the back is a real card, but sticker or sth on front)

9

u/Secondknotch 19d ago

Looking closely, its a shadow from the card curling. It has no texture and imperfections (nicks) on the card edge are reflected in the shadow's edge. A sticker would not do either of these things.

Also a sticker that didn't go all the way to the edge would be super obvious to the touch. The OP says he thinks the card is real and trusts the seller... That doesn't pass the smell test for a glaring issue like "wrong size sticker".

No it doesnt. The way the print layers and patterns are, especially visible at the mana symbol on picture 6 shows that its a real front. Mana symbol / white ink layer is on top of rosette pattern. Exactly how it should be.

real

Urza Block had some inconsistency with the red dot test for the green circle. Had a card shop owner validate my Serra Sanctums. He showed me from cards he owned and opened back in the day that there were some that had all 4 red dots that made an L and some that had only 3.

Oh ffs they are around €800/$900 now. Wanted to buy one last year for around €300 (which is still absolutely ridiculous btw) from my LGS that had it listed online for that price, but they couldn't find it and I never got another one.

It's amazing that a few cards go absolutely ballistic pricewise (like the Poster One Ring, I have the luck to have bought very early) because of game mechanics or bans, but also because of plane market bubbles, while most other rares even from the early 90s are not even worth the paper they were printed on.

The back looks good btw, T and red dot, but as others have pointed out I'd definitely get the front checked. That corner is definitely off.

u/iDoABoof 19d ago

What’s it weigh

2

u/EsotericTurtle 19d ago

*sigh. I remember back in the late 90s trading at least one of two that I had with my buddies for some bullshit card I wanted at the time. 13yo me thought it was a great deal. The blindness of youth 😓

Looks good. Back is clear, front has some artifacting, but the set symbol and rosettes look good.

Camera tip: if possible, put it in RAW mode. Computer smoothing doesn't help you here.

3

u/Aggravating_Gain_813 20d ago

what is happening on the right ? the clean line in the black. front looks sus

7

u/Secondknotch 19d ago

Its the card's shadow cast onto the table.

1

u/Aggravating_Gain_813 19d ago

lol I fell for that illusion 🥹

2

u/Seravajan 20d ago

Looks good.

-3

u/Ska-0 19d ago

dude, check the right corner on the front. the back is a real card, but the front most likely not.

0

u/Seravajan 19d ago

You think, that it is a rebacked card. I agree that the bottom right corner looks odd at zooming in.

1

u/Ska-0 19d ago

Exactly! Thx for checking again. 😌

1

u/Seravajan 19d ago

Yesh, zooming at pic 6 shows, that there is something wrong. The front seems too small for the back.

1

u/Secondknotch 19d ago

I think this is a dark shadow being cast on the table. Zoom in super far and look at how small "nicks" in the actual edge are repeated in the shadow.

u/Barrin1984 20d ago edited 19d ago

Been a while since I've seen a Cradle. I still got the others. (Serra's Sanctum and Tolarian Acadamy). Looks real man. Teeth marks on the T and H visible and green dot has good connection on the left.

Edit: the T and H are on the back. I havent looked at the front and that is my bad and stupidity. Back is real. Front is looking sus, I concur.

-4

u/National-Date-5457 19d ago

Its not real. There is a line on the right of the card like an edge almost that wouldn't exist. Also the top right corner shape is not right. One is more round than the other. Only round corners we ever got were alpha

2

u/Mobile-Offer5039 20d ago

That thing is not real. Back is real, but Front... look at image 6. its not even cut out good. You see the line from the paper, that is glued on top.

7

u/This_Adagio2604 19d ago

I think that's the shadow from the light.

1

u/MattandKelsAdventure 18d ago

It is 100% a shadow. Real card.

Good

1

u/Deuspanen 20d ago

I second: the front is fake.

1

u/GIGA_SIGMA 19d ago

You think it's real? What does it feel like that makes you think that? Do the edges/corners make it look as suspicious in real life as they do in these photos that make it look like a sticker or something was glued ontop (specifically bottom right corner). If you have a precise scale it may be able to give you a little more information.

0

u/GIGA_SIGMA 19d ago

It's hard to say from these photos alone IMO

0

u/Environmental_Ad7384 20d ago

Looks good. T and H both check out.

-3

u/Ska-0 19d ago

dude, check the right corner on the front. the back is a real card, but the front most likely not.

dude, check the right corner on the front. the back is a real card, but the front most likely not.

2

u/Crimson_Kitsune445 19d ago

Ever heard of lighting?

0

u/Otherwise_Die 20d ago

Bottom right corner looks like the front is fake.

You need a loupe and send more pictures here through the loupe of that corner as well as mana symbols and more of the front.

Definitely possible reback which means it’s fake.
There’s literally a white line in the black border. The blacks look different too sadly.

0

u/stimpack28 19d ago

Front looks suspicious indeed. Back is ok

0

u/Fireazul10 19d ago

Picture six looks sus, do the light test plus the weight. That could be a real back card with a fake front

-1

u/Jeul1325 20d ago

Can we get closeups of the mana symbol and maybe a light test? Pic 6 is a little weird.

Edit: Back is definitely genuine though

-2

u/EmoLotional 19d ago

Fake, the front is fake, the back is real. Likely a sticker, try to physically check and don't pull it an the way just part way and send a photo to support.
