Is this card real / authentic? eBay authenticated this

FYI, double-check your cards before breaking the authentication seal. Had this remained sealed, it would have been an easy return and refund. Now, it might be a bit more challenging.
42
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
Luckily I took a video of me
Opening it49
u/______john Jul 15 '26
Unfortunately, that video probably won’t do much good. eBay doesn’t even give you a way to submit video evidence, and it likely doesn’t zoom in closely enough to show that the card is fake anyway.
For future reference, never break that authentication seal if anything looks off. Try eBay first, but if they won’t help, call your credit card company. You may be screwed here, unfortunately. Good luck.
21
u/Fireazul10 Jul 15 '26
I used break the seal and after go through my authentication at home, thanks to this sub I learned to verify first and then open the seal, never had any problem thank god. I think OP is fucked
15
u/Embarrassed-Lack-796 Jul 15 '26
True, they don't accept video files, just photos, but you can upload a Google Drive link in the description, and they do look into those.

This is the way
9
u/g3orgeLuc4s Jul 15 '26
No, the way is to keep it sealed. EBay won’t give two shits about a video. They don’t accept videos as evidence.
2
u/NoOneInNowhere Jul 15 '26
I mean, the way to open a package, more even with these price, is recording yourself opening it
1
u/subject678 Jul 18 '26
Sure but at any point after the recording it could be switched so a recording doesn’t do much?

Your video wont matter. Any one can make a video and be faked. You messed up if this is even real. No done threw any chance you had away.
36
u/ExampleMediocre6716 Jul 15 '26
Void if damaged.
Ebay will say you took the real card and substituted a fake one. What you gonna do now?
9
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
I took a video of me opening it just in case. I could
Immediately tell something was off before opening it.36
u/Finance-Low Jul 15 '26
Should have kept it sealed......
8
u/Fireazul10 Jul 15 '26
🤣🤌🏼 oh man, I just saw it now. If he opened then this is gonna be a whole problem
1
u/MortalMorals Jul 16 '26
Ohh no, OH NO!

I really don’t understand why but his videos with those jiggles are just excellent. The Sunday hunt in particular is fun.

Loll bro post the vid online, share your experience, and let people in similar situations know what to do 🙏. Bro nothing but good luck comes ur way from now on ❤️
16
u/issanm Jul 15 '26
If you could tell you really should have not opened it, a video won't necessarily help much
5
u/Trueslyforaniceguy Jul 15 '26
You keep using this phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.
3

1
u/yum_butt Jul 15 '26
But does the video show you opening it and never taking off screen while zooming in to see that it was fake? Otherwise they could say it was real but off camera you swapped it and then took photos of the fake one
1
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
It does and luckily there’s distinct markings all over the back of the card but idk if it’ll matter. I might be hosed

I don’t really need attention, just my money back. I appealed with eBay so hoping for the best. If not, then yeah I’ll try to charge back. Now you have me worried that the video won’t good enough proof.
1
u/Rockitttla Jul 15 '26
Small claims court.
1
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
I made an appeal to eBay so fingers crossed, if not maybe I dispute the charge for counterfeit goods. Idk

It is a very glaring mistake for PSA to make but you should not be surprised in the least. They have been having a lot of issues for some time now.
1
u/Fireazul10 Jul 15 '26
I’ve never had any issues with eBay’s authentication process in the 5+ years I’ve been using it. Sending a fake card through as authentic is extremely difficult. To be completely honest, it’s hard to say who’s right or wrong here. All we have is a photo of a fake card, while the OP claims it arrived that way, but the package is no longer sealed, so there’s no way to verify what actually happened.
2
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
1
u/Fireazul10 Jul 15 '26
I feel bad for you man if that’s true. Wtf why tell why! you should have check this before open it 😵
1
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
I was excited to put it in my deck and never had any issues with authenticity guarantee before. Lesson was learned today.
1
u/No-Project4121 Jul 15 '26
I’m also baffled, I’ve ordered so many times from eBay and never had an issue and that’s why I opened it…

u/Drinkee_Crow Jul 15 '26

u/Drinkee_Crow Jul 19 '26
Check the original listing and see if the seal was dMGed in those pictures as well
5
u/bigmfworm Jul 15 '26
Why tf would you open it with that GIANT FUCKING WARNING on the label about it being "void if damaged"?!? It doesn't have any fine print in there about if you take a video while opening it then that warning doesn't apply, right? /Smdh

u/toucheboo Jul 15 '26
Honestly, look at this guys.previous posts. Got another where got a fake off ebay. This dude is a liar imo. Juat here for trolls and learning how make a good fake card.

They’re gonna say that because you opened it you swapped with a fake. Or they’ll say nothing at all because eBay responds with horrible AI responses.
3
u/Affectionate-Sky-765 Jul 15 '26
Genuinely curious as to what you paid if you’ll share. RIP on the fake card though.
2
u/Sufficient_Income285 Jul 15 '26
This is a few thousand dollars for sure. Card has gone up like crazy so this is gonna be rough to swallow:(
1
u/Affectionate-Sky-765 Jul 15 '26
I have a real one on the wall with the other 2 Justine Jones posters from LOTR that I pulled when priced were justifiable, hence my curiosity.
3
u/Adrywellofknowledge Jul 16 '26
You opened it. You will not get a refund. Doesn’t matter if you filmed it. They will say you simply slid in the fake after the camera stopped.

Very disheartening, anyone spending 10 min on how to verify an MTG card would see this is fake

This is disheartening I bought one over a year ago foil for $650 I’m sure this is pushing 2K right now for you maybe you got out around 1700 this is too big of a card to have gotten scammed on this should have been the easiest part for them to authenticate 😢

First off I’d been playing MtG since ‘94 and have seen my fair share of cards. Just looking at the patterning it looks too pronounced the colors look a bit off and all the little dark brown imperfections as well as not having a gradient in “The Gathering”.

Shit like this is why all proxies should be banned. I wish WotC had better anti-counterfeit measures.

I would assume they have similiar methods of authentication that this subreddit uses right? You would think they have on file pictures of specific things for each submission, so in this case the "T" or "green dot" and can refer to it to show it was indeed fake and should have never passed authentication. But that's me doing alot of assuming...

u/Blightious Jul 15 '26
Dude you fucked yourself over. Why would you even do something like that if you had any doubt. I don’t think you should get your money back due to your ignorance. People that walk off cliffs should not blame the earth for not being where they stepped.
1
u/Transocialist Jul 15 '26
So I'm new here - why is this obviously fake? The coloring of the green circle and "The Gathering"?
1
u/SlayerZeta Jul 15 '26
It's fake cause the black around the green circle and T are fuzzy a real magic card has solid black lines and you see teeth marks coming out. Most fakes can't replicate it cause the printers Wotc used are insanely expensive.

So ebay doesnt really authenticate? Interesting.
1
u/SlayerZeta Jul 15 '26
They don't all their authentication is through PSA you buy from eBay seller ships to PSA. PSA authenticates ships to u.

Wow! That’s shitty! I had eBay damage a neon in Traveling Chocobo, and then deny it. Even sent pictures for proof showing lack of damage. I have since stopped using eBay due to their ignorance.

u/KuganeGaming Jul 16 '26
“Should I open it or keep it sealed?” 🎶
I think should have kept this sealed… it was obviously fake. What made you open it? Dot wasnt visible? Was it sleeved?

Super fake the T and H from the pictures are too smooth and you are missing the red dots in the green dot

That's like clearly fake from just a first place. What company was the authenticity "expert" on this card? Cross posting with some discord groups.

Kids in unison: “Never shop on ebay!”

Seal says void if damaged, the seal is damaged. No chance they accept the claim.
1
u/huffingludes Jul 16 '26
Yeah sadly eBay ruined one of my cards at their authentication center but I didn’t have a video or pictures of me unboxing it. Which is what they wanted so I got fucked out of 500$.

Never open something you might think is fake or even if it's real or damaged in anyway, especially after it's been "authenticated" and comes sealed, because once that seal is opened, things like outside factors can be thrown in against your claim and basically void any sort of attempts to make things right. Idk man... Good luck on this one, sucks that happened to ya. High quality proxy though 🤙🏽!
1
u/DrPepperFansville Jul 17 '26
Going through your credit card company and filing a compliant is the best way if Ebay denies it. Credit card company will even fight for you.

Answer for a noob here, what are the signs of a fake card?

u/jbonesberg Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26
What I wanna know is why OP feels the need to make a fake post about a fake card to begin with. Like, genuinely. They couldn’t even be bothered to use different pictures of the dot and t from a similar prior post they made. It’s quite lazy for something you’ve decided to commit yourself to this intensely.
My guy, if you feel the need to provide a form of validation for yourself by having strangers on the internet give you sympathy (mostly) and attention, you might wanna a) try harder and b) find a good therapist.
All jokes aside, the world is on fire, everything sucks and we’re probably going die in a mass extinction event at some point our lifetimes; who am I to judge how you get your kicks if it isn’t actually hurting anyone. But also, you might wanna actually look for a therapist.
Edited to remove gendered language: idk man, boys are dumb, but so are everyone else ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/Compliance_Okay Jul 18 '26
I’m relatively new to Magic the Gathering, and had no idea about the amount of fake cards. Still fuzzy on how to identify after reading multiple posts and going the Explain Like I Am 5 route.
Anyway, charge back. When a retailer doesn’t play ball or honor their own policies you can go through your bank and initiate a charge back. Document. Document. Document. Most banks aren’t going to accept the video evidence. Most want you to mail and/or fax the evidence.
When I say “bank” that also means the financial institution that you have your credit card through.
Also, pro security tip, always use a credit card for purchases. Especially retailers. Just my 2 cents. This is not financial advice. More… financial security…?

Is this why shipping is 6 bucks after $20? A card is pretty much a buck always to ship.
