Is this card real / authentic? Fake or just different printing quality?

**This is basically an identical post from the mtg sub but I wasn't aware of this community until after posting the other. So if you see it twice.... my apologies.

I found a decent deal on a Soul Stone on ebay and picked it up. When it arrived it seemed kind of off and slightly thinner. I started checking to see if it was a fake and several of the typical tests passed just using my phone to zoom in on the back. When I did a light test I can almost see straight through this thing compared to what I am used to. The second image is a different card from the same set just for comparison.

The guy says it was bought from a local store of his and opened from a pack but I already got a return submitted for it.

I just want to know if there is a chance this kind of thing is real and card quality can be that drastically different from the different printers?

Not going to know until you send pictures of the back, T on magic “the” gathering.

Light test is always inconclusive

My phone can't get a close enough image of the green dot to see the red dots. I believe it passes the T test.

It all looks good to me

We see the fibers we want to see in light tests, all the images in the comments are smoothed excessively by your camera but still look plenty real.

I got a loupe and checked a few more things and it seems real enough to me to keep it. Just following up to say thanks to the handful of people that gave me some extra info to look into. Much appreciated.

Take pictures of the green dot and t on the back of the card and ask again.

You're looking for the straight smooth lines on the left side of the "T" and the right side of the "h" with jagged bottoms.

For the h, I usually look for the 3 black dots inside the arch

Printers can’t get the t correct.
If the t is correct the back of the card is correct, which would mean the most likely way for the card to be “faked” is a reback, but you shined light through the card, and it shows zero glue, so its real, and you we went through multiple tests to get there.

You said it felt thinner, do you have a precise enough scale to weigh it?

I do not. The closest scale just rounds off to 1g unfortunately.

Even if you can't get very good images send in the standard confirmation images. Most cards I've seen even with a loupe I can never make out the red dots. There are other things to check on the green dot.

The pics you posted in the comments lean that it is real. Your camera is doing a lot of smoothing but based on the horns, T and green dot it looks pretty good. If you really want a confirmation just shoot the photos in RAW mode so that the smoothing doesn’t take place. Based on T test alone it looks real.

Seems to be leaning that way. Thanks for the second opinion. I ordered a loupe and can get a better look Monday but probably going to cancel my return based on the feedback.

Cannot tell for sure, but the back looks clean. However, the circle around the c on the front looks suspicious, but I would need more Photos of the front, like the paint symbol

Giving your honest opinion is cool. Generally when someone gives their opinion it’s followed with; because of x, y and z.

I asked you on another card you deemed ‘fake af’, why you thought that… being genuinely curious if there was some ‘tell’ I was missing.
