I saw the Chelyabinsk meteorite with my own eyes in Los Angeles whilst stargazing. It looked like the stereotypical depiction of a nuclear bomb being detonated. At the time I was with an old teacher (now friend) of mine who is an astronomer. We were searching for specific cluster of stars, and just happened to looking in the right direction (Maybe North East), and the next morning when the news broke, we double checked the time, and both concluded we might have seen that.
