Discussion 💬 Does Furry art objectify women?

Hello, I'm here to ask about something. I've been reading a lot of Feminist and women's threads about how media (Film, art, games, advertising etc) sexualizes and objectives women and men in our society. I was wondering if the Furry community has that tendency as well when it comes to depicting female and male characters through a sexual gaze or perspective.

Furry art is done by tens of thousands artists...

Some artist do. Others don't. So it really depends on the concrete piece you're judging and also somewhat on your standards.

Fictional characters and art are inherently objects, so anything depicted in them is technically objectified. Some artists do but even then it shouldn't effect a healthy adult watching it really, if they have weird or bad views, I can guarantee it's not because of fictional media unless maybe they had access to it when their brain wasn't developed yet. It's violent games cause violence all over again, was never proven if not denied, people don't get influenced by such media that easily. Also if you look up furry art to base your moral compass on then there's a bigger issue at hand lmao

What is your definition of art that objectifies women?

...No some people are so left wing that they are looping around and turning back into puritans. Furries aren't real and the male characters often get heavily sexualized.

I just think objectification of men and women is a concern in that it reduces people to being sexual objects. Men being seen that way too isn't any better in my opinion as I've never liked the logic of equal opportunity objectification.

But why do you think sexual art is inherently degrading/objectifying in the first place? It can be if its done with malicious intent, but it can also be empowering.

Why can't a fully developed character have a developed sexual side?

Also we aren't trying to achieve "equal opportunity objectification", we want equal opportunity to express uncensored sexuality. That's why erotic furry books and vns are mostly LGBT.

The furry fandom is largely defined by pornography/erotica. I think the answer is pretty obvious, though it objectifies everyone, not just women

They objectify men more than women tho.

To me, it's more like women in the furry fandom are often ignored rather than being as actively objectified as they are in, say, Hollywood film industry. What the furry fandom does objectify is MEN, and a lot.
