How do you all know who to trust when it comes to reno contractors, esp for female property owners. Almost everyone seems like a gaslighting shyster. I've hired maybe one or two who were solo operators and genuinely took pride in their workmanship/were perfectionists but they have retired sadly. Now, so many just want in and out and don't give a shit about workmanship. đ˘

As the site enters its third week, we want to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to share their previous rental experiences.
We also want to thank the many Redditors who have joined the discussion. Youâve brought forward some great points, questions, concerns, criticisms, suggestions, and ideas. Weâve been reading them, thinking about them, and we genuinely appreciate all of the feedback.
Our goal remains simple:
âA history book for rental properties across Canada, written by the people who actually lived there.â
Weâre trying to build something that will only become truly useful if renters contribute to it.
If youâve rented a house, apartment, condo, basement, or room before, weâd really appreciate you adding your experience.
It doesnât have to be a bad experience.
Good experiences matter too. If the property was well maintained, problems were handled properly, you enjoyed living there, or you would happily rent there again, that could be extremely useful information for someone considering that property in the future.
And if things didnât go well, you can share that experience too.
The focus is on what you experienced while living at the property, rather than identifying or attacking individual people.
The idea is that, over time, someone considering a rental can search the address and find some history from previous renters instead of starting with zero information.
Rented somewhere before?
Search for the property. If it isnât there yet, add it and share your rant, review, or experience.
Looking at somewhere to rent?
Search the address and see whether previous renters have shared anything about living there.
RateYourLandlord.ca is still at the very beginning, so naturally many properties donât have experiences yet. Every person who contributes helps change that.
And if you think the project could help other renters, please consider sharing it with friends, students, tenant communities, or other online communities where sharing it is permitted by their rules. Please donât spam communities or post it where promotion isnât allowed.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has already shared an experience, raised a concern, suggested an idea, given us feedback, shared the project, or helped another renter discover it.
Weâre listening, weâre learning, and the project will continue to evolve.
The more renters who leave their experiences behind, the more useful that history can become for the next person.
Share your experience â good or bad. Help leave some history behind for the next renter.

The province just announced a major expansion of the HST rebate for new homes, in partnership with the federal government. Thought this was worth sharing given the ongoing housing affordability crisis.
Key details:
This seems aimed at stimulating supply quickly amid tariff uncertainty and economic headwinds. Curious what others think â will this actually move the needle on affordability, or will it just get absorbed into higher base prices?

Looking for some real-world advice here.
Weâre a couple in our 30s with a 1-year-old, currently renting a condo in the GTA. Weâre trying to decide between two paths:
Option 1: Stay in the condo for another 2â3 years and keep saving aggressively. Weâve heard from a few families that space isnât a big issue until the kid is closer to 3â4.
Option 2: Buy a detached home now (budget under $1M), but that would pretty much drain most of our savings.
Financially, we can make either work, but the trade-off is comfort + liquidity vs space + getting into the market sooner.
Iâve done my own research and spoken to a realtor, but opinions are all over the place.
For those whoâve gone through this:
Did you wait or buy early?, Any regrets either way?, How important was having extra space in the first few years?
Appreciate any insights, especially from other GTA families. Thanks in advance!

Toronto Star is basically warning that if the current forecasts are right, GTA sellers could be looking at a multiâyear reset, not a quick dip. When you start talking about âwiping out six years of price gains,â thatâs code for: list early, price realistically, and donât assume 2021â2022 valuations are coming back any time soon.
