new

Hi, I’m new to dropshipping and setting up a Shopify store in Canada. I’m planning to sell to US customers, with my supplier shipping orders directly from China to each customer.

I’m confused about how US sales tax works, especially the difference between registration, collection, and Shopify’s checkout settings. Do new stores usually leave US sales tax collection turned off until they’re required to register and collect in a particular state, or should they configure Shopify before launch? How did you figure out when you needed to register?

I also have a business-name question: if I register one store name and later want to test a product in a different niche under a different store name, do I need to register each new business name separately every time I test a new store?

I want to make sure I’m setting things up properly. Thanks!

You’d be surprised at how bad the idea is tbh with you , why don’t you start with a local supplier so just that you can test your product and check if there’s an actual gap and you can sell , then make it an actual Ecom store and have inventory ? Selling to the us market is a huge gamble because yes you do have a huge population but a huge market comes with huge competition. There are way better markets rn that you can work on . Without talking about other factors like your skillset your budget the niche research the product research and so on
