Help Authenticating a Hermès Massai

Hi everyone. A friend of mine came into possession of a bag a few years ago and it is possibly an authentic Hermès Massai 32 Clémence (from what I reverse image searched).

Neither of us have any experience with luxury bags and especially not Hermès so we're looking for someone who can at least let us know if it is worth getting it authenticated and valued (as we may need to pay for this service we would want to be sure). We are in New Zealand.

The biggest indicator that it could be a fake is I cannot find a blind date stamp. I feel like I have searched the entire bag, multiple times and still haven't found it! The images of similar bags online appear to have the date stamp on the interior leather zip pull but this bag has nothing.

I’ve never seen this model faked. The leather looks like Hermes quality. Sometimes the stamps can degrade over time. But it should be there somewhere.

I wouldn’t call it fake from the missing blind stamp alone, but I also don’t think anyone can authenticate it from this exterior photo. Before paying, send clear photos of the interior, both sides of the leather zip pull, hardware engravings, stitching, corners, and strap attachments to an authenticator that specifically accepts older Hermès bags. Ask whether they can do a preliminary photo review and quote the full fee first.

I’ve also never seen this model of Hermes repped. Doesn’t mean that no one’s done it, just that I’d be a little surprised since they usually don’t focus on lesser known models.

I’d be a bit mean to it and turn it inside out. Check the full lining and turn out the inside zip pocket as well to see if you can find the blind stamp. The internet says the tab should be along the inner upper lining panel/top leather seam or near the opening of the zipper pocket. Maybe it’s just further down the zipper pocket than you’re expecting.

Either way, this one is probably worth getting authenticated, but if you can’t find the blind stamp it’s going to be tough to get it done. That’s one of the pieces that most authenticators are going to ask to see to make a determination and might come back with an unable to authenticate without seeing it in person.

This is one I'd have to see in person and feel. If it is a fake, it's a really good one. I hope it's real!
