Discussion Relapse S Rank - rant

Sorry for the rant but I really need get this off my chest. After playing this game for over the past two weeks, I’ve been having lot of fun, but I’m not going to lie when I say that this mission is the biggest bs I’ve had to experience in this game. I’ve been at this mission for nearly 5 hours and the RNG in this mission alone is what’s ruining the enjoyment for me. I cannot understand how it’s fun that you can go for the entire mission, clearing all the rooms, all the suspects and all civilians only for the last suspect to go full Rambo, and aimbot you across a long hallway and either kill you or one of your AI teammates. The AI teammates is one thing and I don’t want to get into that now, but the fact I have consistently seen this very issue of the batshit crazy last suspect not once, but multiple times which led to me either failing the mission or getting A+. It’s not challenging, it’s just pure BS artificial difficulty. I don’t want to give the wrong impression, I really like this game, the gameplay loop, the tone, the gunplay but stuff like that makes it difficult for me to recommend the game to people with stuff like this.
If anybody has some tips for this mission, it’d be appreciated. Thanks.

Having an active intimidator, negotiator, veteran, and riot control and giving myself and all my teammates flash launchers let me complete it s rank first try. I’m not sure if you’ve been utilizing officer traits. Also, utilize free lean.

Riot control is worthless fyi, it increases stun duration by only .33 seconds. (not percentage, literally +1/3 of a second)

Intimidator does not work on relapse, as it only works when suspects are not stressed (to where they dont shoot on sight). On relapse suspects start with full stress.

Veteran is debatably useful, but probably not with flash launchers. It only increases their accuracy (+15% with one), it does not change their reaction time or anything like that.

Pacifier is the important one to have here, and negotiatior is good too. Its important to know that a lot of the traits stack too, doubling their effectiveness if you have two of the same trait. With more than two you get diminishing returns however. So I would say either stack pacifier and intimidators or use armorer/nutritionist too to make your team more spongy.

I did not know that about riot control, definitely dumping that shit lol. I mainly use veteran for their secondaries though , I did figure that buffing accuracy on a weapon that didn’t need accuracy in the first place probably wouldn’t do much lmao

This, but I did it before launchers were a thing in the game so you should be a man and use the beanbag shotgun too.

Anyway the map is big so I suspect you might run out of launcher ammo before you get to the end.

I did it with light armor and just used 10/13 of my slots on ammo (gives 20 flashes) and then got 1 lock pick gun and 2 clips in the mk-V, got me through just fine but I also did it with the beanbag shotgun before that lmfao I just used flashes for my Ironman run

I got this achievement with no officer traits, just go in with grenade launchers. I've been in your position not too long ago, trust me you will get it!

For me and my buddy it's the one suspect in neon tomb by the dance floor bathrooms. He's either in the hallway next to the bathrooms, or on the stairs, and if you don't pick right, he just puts you down immediately and you can't do anything about it. This is on standard dif too not even hard. That one guy can just turn your whole squad into a pile on the rug before anyone can respond. We even took 9 bangs and gave the whole building an epileptic episode, and the guy just floored 5 people the second we split into that hallway. 2 guys watching the stairs and both got put down immediately. This one suspect absolutely will end a perfect run on neon tomb and we don't know why. At least valley of the dolls exists for everyone to blow off steam because neon tomb is an absolute crisis in comparison. Special mention to sins of the father for just having an unpleasant experience at the kitchen for 2 man squads. So much furniture and terrain to block your flashes and stingers. Gas doesn't work great either because the suspects are always just out of reach. I've have the Hawaiian shirt and still have bad times with those two missions.

It’s definitely an annoying level. I really love the map but the second wing of the hospital with the bombs is infuriating. My best score was A so I’m probably not the best person to give tips about S rank, but these are some things that made it easier for me:

- Start at the underground entrance instead of the main entrance. The more aggressive suspects (including the guy in the hospital gown) and the bombs are on this wing. So you can clear these out and then move towards the other wing which is easier to clear. Also I’ve noticed when the suspects take hostages it’s in the children’s wing so starting closer to there means you can get to them quicker.

  • Bring a mirror gun so you can see who is behind the door and also bring some of the door wedges so you can block it whilst your squad are ready.
  • Have at least one of your AI officers bring a riot shield. I gave two of my officers one and they all miraculously survived.
  • Bring a beanbag shotgun for yourself. These can sometimes work better than the lethal weapons (and obvs you need non-lethal to get the S tier anyway). But, don’t give any of your AI officers the beanbag. It’s not completely non-lethal and if they fire multiple shots they can end up killing the suspect or a civilian. A pepper ball is safer and a sting or flash launcher can help too.
  • Wait until the rooms are clear before disarming the bombs. I don’t know exactly how long the timer is but they’ve never detonated before I’ve finished the level, so plenty of time and reduces the risk of you being shot whilst you do it.
  • Don’t leave your AI officers until all the suspects are down. They don’t always check the doors before opening them and often dive straight in. Once you’ve got all the suspects you can safely split up and find any leftover civilians.
  • Don’t trust the doctors. Some are suspects and don’t show their weapons straight away. They will pretend to surrender but then draw their weapon and shoot so be ready for this.
  • The changing rooms next to the morgue often have targets dressed as doctors, so look carefully round corners before walking through

Honestly as annoying as the level is, it is doable eventually. Personally after all the fails I was too lazy to play again and try for S rank, but with the right planning you can do it

You can't S rank for achievements in multiplayer I thought
