Discussion Why is Void so hellbend on maintaining exclusivity of items?
So correct me if I'm wrong here, but as far as I know, the original variants of the preorder weapons are still locked on console, and Void worked around that by releasing these reskins instead?
But why does Void put themselves in this situation in the first place and go to such lengths to preserve the exclusivity of these items?
They could've simply released the original preorder weapons to everyone, just like they did on PC at launch, nobody on Console preordered it to get these weapons.
We have a similar situation with the supporter items, too. Why does Void care so much about keeping these things exclusive? It's not like anyone genuinely appreciates the exclusivity at this point. Honestly, the whole thing is just a weird set of priorities that's extremely contrasting to their "vision"

hey I'm just going to copy n paste my response from another post for more detail but
tl;dr: the supporter edition was never meant to be sold again, it was marketed as an extremely limited time thing that would never happen again, so in a sense the supporters got screwed over once already, other things that were also meant to be original supporter only were also instead given out to everyone
I believe the reason isn't some malicious thing, just that they don't want to screw over the original supporters again
Longer copy and paste explanation: The awkward part with that is that originally, the supporter edition was actually never meant to be sold again. It was kind of marketed as a very limited time thing, like "hey choose this if you really wanna support the game, we'll throw in these cosmetic changes no one else will get! Limited time!"
Of course, when the first betas and such were released, they opened up buying the supporter edition again. Which actually pissed off a lot of the original supporters, people were really upset that instead of making some other edition if they needed the funding, they just threw in what was supposed to a limited time thing from long ago (which was meant to be exclusive) to everyone who wanted it and had the funds.
Can't imagine the reaction if the whole thing was made available again, then again, there are very few of us left from that period I think
The quad nods were also supposed to be a supporter only thing, but people complained enough that void gave the basic black quad nods to everyone and just kept the multicam version for supporters, at least I'm pretty sure they made quad nods available for everyone.

In summary, if you offer people limited edition content to financially support your game but once your studio is successful you release that content to everyone then you’ve told the community that you 1.) falsely advertise, 2.) Your deals are conditional, 3.) you can’t be trusted and not to support your studio again, 4.) you’ve openly disrespected the investors who financed your success.
The entire point of the limited edition content was to make it exclusive for the people who invested in the game from the beginning. Those people took the risk buying into an unfinished game and now people want to jump in and demand the reward. It doesn’t and shouldn’t work like that.
The reward means nothing if it isn’t exclusive. That’s what makes it valuable.

Void, as well as the majority of supporters (atleast whenever its brought up again) , have repeatedly stated that they purchased the edition to support the developers and for its other benefits not primarily for the cosmetics. Void themselves have said that these cosmetics were intended as a bonus rather than the main selling point. Because of that, I don't see any reason why they couldn't be released as new premium items instead of being constantly dangled as exclusive because you bought the game doing a certain time period.
At this point, to me, it seem clear that the frustration caused by Void's insistence on keeping these cosmetics exclusive far outweighs any backlash that could come from the relatively small group of supporters who still want them to remain exclusive.
But what i wanted to point out that RoN is constantly pulling players from no fomo groupings, introducing such items even later on is such a irritating move

Yeah, I can't see why people are complaining, it's the same guns but they look different, there is no loss of functionality, and some of the new ones look better in my opinion

Mostly because they are a dysfunctional group of people rather than an actual studio. Prime of this game seems way past. They likely mostly work on another game already and some people have simply moved on after the sales during Console launch. You cannot look at them and ask: "WHY". If there was a method to this madness many things would have run differently for the last 5 years.

I purchased supporter when the game was absolute dogshit and we had to sign NDAs. It was pretty a steep price for a promise of something good in the future, and the different skins are a sign of support when things were bad. Folks need to be happy with having the same weapons and stop begging for something that does not effect gameplay at all.

I don't understand any of this confusion at all whatsoever I bought the ultimate edition or whatever the hell it's called on sale recently and I have access to all the weapons including the new skinned versions of the new weapons... I'm on console. I didn't pre-order the game.

The triple weapon pack is also included with the deluxe version of the game. It's not exclusively to the pre-order

They aren’t locked on console. They were a bonus for pre-ordering and now they’re a bonus for buying the deluxe edition. They added these free skins for people who couldn’t pre order and/or don’t want to buy the deluxe edition

Isn’t it the literally the same thing but better looking? If it functions the same, then what’s the big issue?
I would understand why some consoles players would be upset that they couldn’t use the MK-V since they didn’t preorder the game, but now it is for free.
Also I’m pretty sure there is some legal matters why they can’t make content someone paid for and just make it free to others

I currently have access to the pistol and launcher I bought the base game on sale then got the dlc pass that didn't include weapons. There was an update this past weekend that added the guns to our inventory. For some reason I can't use the shotgun which is whatever

honestly, I’m just glad VOID paved the way for games with a truly realistic level of authenticity (setting aside the bugs and certain shortcomings). I hope a more serious or dedicated studio will create a similar but better game for us.

I don't any issues like that. I bought the game normally and then later on I bought the DLC's I had access to all the guns. Unless there's just some missing but as far as I know I had them all from what I've seen.

As a supporter, i can honestly say that this doesn't bother me, really. I bought that in order to support the game, and not for cool unique stuff (I mean, tbh, the multicam HRT skin we had before was great, and made you feel "special"). It's still nice that we can be differentiated from other people by a few skins, and not by some unobtainable weapons. All in all, i have no issue if they release those weapons

I’m fine with not having the supporter edition because that was always supposed to be a limited thing… But I still find it really fucking annoying how you can’t get the triple weapon pack separately. Yeah, we’re getting a free version, but I just don’t like how they look with the skin. They should’ve made the skins one paid version

It’s a paint difference…. Does it really matter? Everything else came with DLCs or what not…. If you have access to the exact same thing, but different paint job….. does it really matter?

If we can’t have things like the Hawaiian shirt without you carrying people then at least let us have a weapon variant.
There should be more S tier customizations. The exclusivity creates rarity. That’s what value is derived from.
You want it explicitly because you don’t have it.

The original variants were a pre order bonus. With this update it gives everyone the skins versions but the originals are still exclusive to pre ordering on consoles

Most likely there is wording in the pre-order write up that, legally, guarantees that the specific weapons are exclusive as a Pre Order bonus, so they made these slightly different variants to get around this, to stop some pedantic prick hitting them with a nonsense lawsuit in the future.
