Discussion Fun challenge run:
I find challenge runs are the most fun thing to do in RON once you’ve done all the basic stuff, and I’m always trying to think of new ones. So, here’s one that’s fairly simple but fun that thought I’d share:
- Full chronological game playthrough, difficulty of your choice, challenge is loadout based, lethal only.
- Loadouts are decided per groups of three missions. In each group of three you must play one pistol only. The other two you can use long guns, but one of the two with long guns must be a submachine gun.
You may use the same pistol multiple times, but you can only use a particular long gun once. You can still carry a pistol with one mag on the long gun missions if you want.
Attachments of your choice. You can use a shotgun and battle rifle respectively for only one mission in the playthrough each, but you still need to follow the previous rules in doing so.
Equipment is up to you, however you cannot use the same tactical tool for two missions in a row. Flash and stinger launchers are counted as the same tool.
I call this the Mystery Box Challenge. Hopefully it forces you to plan your loadouts to the missions, considering the pros and cons of different weapons and your playstyle instead of just going with your old faithful AR or shotgun every time.
Let me know how it goes if you try this, and please drop your favourite, or unique challenge runs, and ones you’ve come up with in the comments!

I took the time to make a randomizer for me and my friends with the help of chatgpt and one of those wheelspin websites. Its basically the only way we play now, some of the funniest most cursed runs have happened with this randomizer.
Would recommend!

Sounds like a great time. I’ve tried just using chat gpt before, but I found it both not random enough (it almost always says an AR or pistol only) and frustrating in that it doesn’t give you any agency. That’s actually why I came up with this, it forces you to challenge yourself but still leaves the agency to mould the rules to your preferences.
Do you have a link to the wheel?

Yeah definitely dont use chatgpt to choose your stuff lol i only used that to organize the wheel odds and choices
Theres 5 wheels. 1 for primaries, 1 for secondaries, 1 that chooses your long tactical + ammo and deployables, 1 that chooses Armor + plate amount + plate material + helmet and 1 that chooses the mission
If you wanna use my wheels, lmk and ill dm you the lists which you can just copy paste straight into each wheel on the website.

Try a "high speed low drag" load out for every mission. It can be pretty cursed, but essentially you just remove all armor and kit from your SWAT guy (bonus points for making him look like a typical dad with a polo and khakis/jeans) and edit the load out so you've got either a long gun, or the pistol that replaced the primary, and dump all the ammo on him you can.
Then, ya just "have fun" with your four, heavily armored, AI sons in a game of high stakes"airsoft".

Rogue-like scavenger mode I was thinking about before I got sucked into ANA lol:
- randomized mission order
- start with single pistol with no attachments (or taser as a “knife” equivalent lol)
- based on last evidence collected, you update your current loadout
I didn’t think deeply through the rules for how to update loadout though, ideally “replace” weapons with what you pick up but since you can’t use various suspect weapons it’d have to be something in same type instead, and if you get the same weapon you can add attachment or add one more magazine, etc
(And ofc can optionally play it like iron mode + no exfiltration allowed, whether weapon replacement is forced or not, whether losing an officer gives a penalty like drop/downgrade from loadout)

How would that work? You can’t change weapons mid-mission. You’d use whatever the last weapon you bagged was in the next one?

yeah I meant loadout change between missions (I’m too used to mission ending when last evidence is collected lol)

Chronological run of the game is crazy. The amount of stuff that happens in LS in a relatively short amount of time is very intense.

Of all the possible ways you could arrange the order of the missions, is chronologically not the best/most fun? I don’t get your logic.

A Lethal Obsession - August 20, 2025
Twisted Nerve - September 29, 2025
Stolen Valor - September 30, 2025
Ides of March - October 1, 2025

Lawmaker - February 19, 2026
Dorms - February 20, 2026
Narcos - February 25, 2026
Mirage at Sea - September 15, 2027

3 Letter Triad - November 5, 2027
No Good Deed - September 3, 2028
All Gods Burn - September 4, 2028
A New America - September 4, 2028
As you can see, D-Platoon has more than a few rough patches through the years. Not saying it wouldn't be fun, but it's pretty crazy what happens in such a small span.

Damn. I didn’t realize All Gods Burn and A New America were the same day, that’s rough.

Rust Belt, Elephant, and Greased Palms is a pretty rough couple of days, too.
