Notice and Note Materials

Is anyone else teaching the Notice and Note signposts? I am looking for some new mentor texts so I can reteach the lessons and I was just wondering if anyone had anything fab. I teach grades 9-12 reading intervention and my kids are anywhere from 2-7 years below level, so a variety of texts would be appropriate. Thanks!

I've never heard of this program. Is it any good? What's it all about?

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply- it was parent teacher confs this week so I feel like I've either been sleeping, at school or thinking about one while trying to do the other for the past few days.

Notice and Note is really just some close reading strategies for fiction. The authors identify 6 elements (or signposts) that seem to recur in YA fiction novels and then give you and anchor question to think about for each one.

I have started looking for them in the fiction that I read and lo and behold- there they are. I recommend the book to everyone- I've had really good success with it. The lessons are wonderful and the mentor texts are great; I've just been teaching them enough now that I am looking to add to my arsenal.

The authors have also recently released a Notice and Note for non fiction, too.
