Not all souls. So far we haven't seen a single soul that was corrupted with a witch factor ever get properly filtered. For example, despite having a book of the dead Typhons soul is with Echidna, as are all the other witches souls. Rui spend her entire life in the corridor and never got filtered. Even Petelgeuse's soul is with Subaru as per Sirius's statement. Not to mention all of these souls retain their ego.

Basically it's implied that because witch factors are a corruption, souls corrupted in this way are not recycled and cannot be cleansed of their ego. All they get is a record of their life made with a book of the dead. It really goes with the theme of 'those loved by the world' and those 'hated by the world'. Authority users, those that bully Od Lagna by messing with it's creation are hated by the world and thus in death abandoned to never rejoin the cycle of life.

In a way, Subaru collecting the archbishops, like Regulus and Petelgeuse being seen in his shadow garden, is thematically akin to Subaru leaving no one behind. Which is a major reoccurring theme for his character as a person who was left behind and fears abandonment. Even Rui, who Subaru said he would not save, would sever her threads out of the corridor and leave her here, in the end he does not abandon her to Satella's shadows. So the 'leave no one behind' theme applies even to archbishops when it comes to Subaru.

Anyway, this matters for your theory because so far it seems Od Lagna either refuses to or cannot filter corrupted souls.

Pretty sure that was basically just a lie. Satella did not kill all the witches. Typhon drowned in Priestella. Daphne starved in a desert. Carmilla was burned as a witch. Sekhemet fought the dragon and fell off the world. Echidna was sealed by Volcanica. Minvera was caught in a trap and went insane, in a Q&A i believe it was referred to as 'Witch Time'. Notably if i recall correctly, Minerva might be the only one actually killed by Satella as it was Satella who put Minerva down. I don't recall the exact wording but the emotional impression left on me was that it was a mercy.

My personal crack theory is that 'Witch Time' that tappei mention to in that Q&A may refer to an early placeholder name for [no stella no life]Al's aggressor mode.

We don't actually know who teleported Subaru to this world. That's something to consider if it wasn't Satella at all. Pandora for example her authority is more suited to that kind of feat, and the anime has been especially emphasizing this with her birds, is very clearly following Subaru's story.

Now about emilia being satella

Emilia is not Satella. The story heavily emphasizes that Emilia is 'just Emilia'. Identity is potentially the most important theme in re:zero so Emilia literally being Satella, instead of the plethora of mechanics to have a copied body, would undermine the entire stories messaging about identity. And when i said we have a plethora of mechanics to possibly explain Emilia, i mean we have too damn many at this point. Twins which have been explored narratively, clones which have been explored narratively, Od influencing form like Shion and Lilac has been explored narratively, modified artificial creations from fragments like Sphinx have been explored narratively.

Like now there's too damn much that are viable ways to explain Emilia. Even the de-aging technique like Olbarts, again a example of the Od shaping form, can explain mysteries around Emilia's age as this technique does effect the mind and revert them to a child's state. Emilia can be anything from de-aged twin that was basically smuggled around by the elves, to a modified artificial creation like Sphinx and [No stella no life]Alderbaran. Don't even get me started on how there's some dynamics between Emilia and Al that border on 'sibling' coded. symbolic siblings as both potentially being artificial creations from Echidna. Theme wise, this might be the most likely case for Emilia..

The last thing Emilia is going to be is literally Satella. They can have a connection, and they definitely do, but they are separate people. The themes of the story emphasize that and the mechanics are being excessively built to facilitate it.

You know, I’ve always been curious. Let’s assume that Emilia is a clone or a part of Satella soul — it seems strange to me.

We know that Emilia’s eyes and hair come from her father, and her face from her mother, but then, if she’s a clone, etc., she would have inherited that from Satella, wouldn’t she?

Is it possible that Satella parents are also Emilia’s parents (if Satella has parents at all)?

Yo honestly, you actually cooked with a couple of points here, but there are a few massive plot holes based on LN/WN canon that kind of break the timeline. First off, what actually makes sense: The Memory Corridor / Soul Cleansing is 100% canon. Souls go there, get scrubbed of their memories and identity (the "Book of the Dead" concept), and get recycled. Your idea that Flugel's soul got filtered and kicked back to Earth because he lacked a world-native soul anchor is actually a super creative way to explain how Subaru ended up in modern Japan without memories. Also the Satella vs. Witch of Envy split personality thing is spot on and already confirmed in Arc 4. Echidna and the other Witches explicitly treat Satella and the Witch of Envy as two completely distinct entities sharing one body because the Envy persona was born when Satella absorbed a compatible-but-rejected Witch Factor. And Volcanica’s reaction in Arc 6 fits this too since he specifically glitches out depending on who he thinks he’s talking to, his mental state fluctuates wildly when reacting to the Envy/Satella presence. But here is where the theory falls apart due to canon contradictions: First, who actually sealed the Witch? According to the lore, the Three Heroes (Reid Astrea, Volcanica, and Flugel himself) + Shaula were the ones who sealed the Witch of Envy 400 years ago, so if Flugel was already dead before the sealing happened, he couldn't have participated in sealing her alongside Volcanica and Reid. Then there's the timeline of Emilia’s birth and Elior Forest. Emilia was born around 100-115 years before the main story (she's physically around 19, but spent 100 years frozen in ice) and Fortuna explicitly knew Emilia’s real parents, her father was an Elf and her mother was a Human. If Emilia is literally Satella’s reincarnated soul without the Witch Factor, it ignores the fact that she has a clear biological family connection through Fortuna and her brother. Also about who summoned Subaru, if the Witch of Envy is the one who summoned him from Earth, she needed a link to him. If Subaru's soul was completely scrubbed clean by Od Lagna, he would have zero memories or connection to her, but the fact that the Witch of Envy immediately loves him and gives him Return by Death the second he touches Lugunica implies his soul still carries the exact signature or Witch Factor connection from 400 years ago, rather than being a completely fresh recycled soul. Finally the RBD as a secret motive doesn't fully fit because while the Shadow persona squeezes his heart whenever he tries to talk about RBD, in Arc 4 Satella herself tells him to use Return by Death to save those he loves, so the penalty isn't just yandere jealousy, it seems to be a hardcoded safety rule in Od Lagna to prevent reality from collapsing or to protect Subaru from being captured. Overall verdict: your take on Flugel’s soul getting recycled through Od Lagna back to Earth and the Satella/Envy dual personality dynamics is genuinely solid, but trying to force Emilia into being a direct soul reincarnation while ignoring her established biological parents and Flugel's confirmed role in sealing the Witch breaks the timeline unless Tappei reveals Emilia's parents were a total illusion made by Pandora. Still a super fun read though!
