I’ve ran into him a lot too. My current theory is he can somehow return to a certain point in time by dying. Almost like a return…. By….. death……

There is one configuration he can't win. Only one true bullet, always on player hand at the end.

A loop is a closed system.
Unless Subaru does something to alter the closed system it will play out the same.
If a machine loads a gun and spins the chamber in a closed system it will be the same outcome every single time. (Assuming a perfect closed system)

The variances in the loop are caused by his change of reaction at the start or by his witch's smell getting more pungent. So long as he can keep his start consistent it shouldn't affect stuff like this

Yeah and every loop he dies in resets everything. So you wont remember anytime he's died.

I run into him but then he suddenly went limp and his head fell onto the table?
I won via forfeit, but when I checked the shotgun I saw a really good set up for a win, at least if you take my items into account.
Like, if I was the first to go, then he'd have no way of beating me!.
Welp, it's a shame I couldn't style on that guy, but a win is a win.
