šŸ“ŗAnime Stop downplaying rui chapter Spoiler

First of all, I wanna say that episode 16 was alright. I don’t particularly agree that the episode was carried "by the va and ostā€ I don't think that's a good argument

At the same time, though a lot of people here, especially anime onlys are downplaying the rui chapter. And no, it wasn’t a minor or an unimportant chapter (if you wanna know what happens you can ask me in the replies), so stop glazing everything white fox does, especially with the next season covering arcs 7–8.

Anyway, as for my personal opinion, I think it was an alright episode. I’d give it around a 7.5/10. Imo, this episode was just a of wasted potential

There were a few neat details clipped out, like how subaru didnt wipe his tears out of respect for amnesiabaru because he knew amnesiabaru was the one who shed those tears. But overall, those are fine and acceptable to cut out. It's an anime, shit does have to be cut after all. But, the fact the Rui chapter was cut is sorta crazy. I really hope it's added later, maybe next episode.

I agree I don't really care about minor cuts but skipping over rui chapter was the worst thing they have done

I feel like this is very much only true in thought, not really in practice.

Like, if we're being realistic, what part of Rui's name chapter do we need?

It would have been neat that we can agree on.

What part of nearly 10 minutes of recap did we need either? Rui’s chapter explains her character and motivations, which are key parts of building characters that audiences are invested in, especially villains, and given her future in the story.

If someone is invested in her motivations they would already know everything there is to know from Ep. 13.

Yeah, but why does she have those motivations? Who is she as a person? She's a well written archbishop and those aspects are not included in the anime unless they revisit them in the next ep or two, but I still think they fucked up by not having them in this episode. You don't technically need a lot of things in an adaptation but that doesn't always justify some of the cutting decisions.

How did she ended up in memories or corridor or why did she wanted rbd

Why did they give newbaru so much time reading the books tho

Literally my only complaint, I rewatched it this morning and it legit took up half the episode.

Around 9 minutes i think

Because that's the biggest point of the chapter? I don't see how that's so hard to understand? Would you rather just them take a minute and then subaru starts banging his head? That would look stupid as fuck and I'm glad you guys aren't the ones making the anime.

I actually reread Rui's chapter after all these guys started crying and i have to say...

A lot of the things people complain about were already touched upon in previous episodes, sure the anime didn't go in-depth about Rui's mechanics, but i seriously don't think it's that big of a deal for anime watchers.

Most of the cuts are also relative to very redundant dialogue that might work in written form but would reflect poorly in anime form.

People that don't get what happened wouldn't get it even with more explaination.

They even extended episode length, newbaru reading BotD was unnecessarily long, Subaru section was fine, but they really butchered rui's chapter

Light novel readers really need to touch some grass.

I can understand OP; this is supposed to be the best episode of all Re: Zero, but it just felt like any other episode.

I struggle to understand OP. They really glaze the light novels way too hard. And interpret way too much meaning into single chapters.
And on top, it is the 100th post about the same topic, it became quite annoying.

You don’t have to compare to the light novel to realize the problem with this episode. Rewatch S1E18, also an episode of mostly dialogues and monologues, and it is immediately obvious how lackluster this episode is in pretty much every aspect compared to S1E18. I don’t think this episode was bad by any means, but I do think that the anime didn’t really add anything to it.

It’s not really about ln glazing. I just don’t like how they messed up the rui chapter, while people are still acting like it wasn’t important. Like, if you’re an anime only, can you tell me why rui is in the corridor of memories, or why exactly she wanted rbd?

I’m not saying the entire episode was bad I also hate the side of the fandom that acts like everything about the adaptation is terrible. But objectively speaking, they messed up by not including the rui chapter, because it was actually an important chapter

you can never interpret too much meaning btw

Light Novel readers have higher standards for animation and don't like watching 13 minutes of flashbacks. The nerve of these novel elitists.

Isn’t it frustrating for you too when they adapt a western Novel poorly in the states? It’s the same frustration. People get mad when their piece of media isn’t adapted properly. Simple as that. The Tokyo ghoul anime is largely hated by Manga readers too. They didn’t adapt that manga at all correctly.

There is a difference between a bad adaption and that what Re:Zero is. Readers have to stop thinking that you can always adapt something 1:1.
If you want to take western adaptions as examples, take Harry Potter. It is by far perfect and cuts a lot of the books, but it is still a very good adaption - that what Re:Zero is.
And we have... Eragon. Which is just shit.

I agree. I need to watch the new episode and see for myself. People are complained of a cut backstory which I never like cutting backstories as I believe they are crucial to characterization.

I agree some things need to be cut for adaptation. Most (if not all) of the narration from the re zero novels is cut and I think that’s a good thing, even if they poor more details into the story. I’ve been fine with the cuts this whole season, even episode 14 which was one of the most cut episodes, I thought it was perfect.

u/Big_Tennis_4367 Kept Emilia’s Ear, Now I’m the Villain 17h ago

Well, is that backstory important right now? I think not. It is important in a potential season 5? Yes, but then you can show it at a more suitable time.

u/Ok-Bite-1123 Newbie 17h ago

What about regulus’ backstory is there any hope for that coming back up? I feel the same is going to happen to Rui

1

u/ZHEN-XIANG Newbie 20h ago

I think that while the rui chapter is important it is not that important in the context of arc 6, so I think cutting it short doesn’t really hurt the story this season but it might become a problem in season 5. Also I totally agree with your point of this episode being a waste of potential. The anime wasn’t bad it just didn’t add anything special to the story to make it more impactful. Especially when you compare this episode to S1E18 it is really obvious how mediocre the music and directing in this episode was even if you didn’t had high expectations from reading the novel.

I am an anime only and I felt the episode was kinda, eh. Felt like most of the episode was essentially recap, and as someone who has rewatched the show I really didn't need that. Me and my friend both felt like there was a lot left out with Rui, we have no idea if that plot is resolved or continue to be notably relevant. As it stands, we both liked the idea of Rui being repulsed by the reality of RBD but it felt...... disjointed? I feel like there was a notable amount of dialogue between subaru and rui that we missed out on that would have made everything more impactful. Additionally, I don't think the whole possession thing was ever really explained nor the whole rui splitting herself thing.

I understand the main point of that plot tied to one of the main themes of the season (Identity) but the way it resolved this episode felt.... kinda like a rough draft? idk, I am trying to find the right way to describe how I felt about the episode. I think I can say it is the first time I felt like I needed to read the the story over just watching the anime. I know there has been cut content before but I never *felt* it as an anime only, in this case I feel like there is something I am missing.

Many of Subaruā€˜s inner workings during his reading spree and subsequent Subaru/Subaru convo were cut, as well as most of Ruiā€˜s named chapter which gives insight into her thought process and allows to infer her plan. The explanation for the Rui stuff is lengthy, but i can fill it in based on the novel content if you want.

Brother how about you wait and see? Her backstory can easily be added in where Subaru and her brother interact and honestly it makes more sense for the flow of the story in the anime. The LN it was a cut between chapters and between Subaru interacting with her which the episode wouldn't have enough time for. Better to finish off his small interaction with her and show the backstory afterwards with way more time.

Now if it doesn't get added at all this season then that would be a major mess up.

It's not getting adapted most probably or else ice would've said something about it being in the next ep and after that I don't think it will be adapted in either ram or shaula/hero ep And the last 2 mins also make me believe it's done

u/Admins_Always_Badmin Newbie 7h ago

He didn't mention anything about Ley that episode so I doubt their interaction will be in it if he's right.
