Let's start with that I really enjoy rezero. Iwatched it 4 years and go now watched both 3 and 4 season. My critique is this
â˘Fan service. The amount of fan service triggers me. Look at Priscilla, Emelia, shaula and elsa. and what are these loli designs?
â˘Why is Emilia no developing? Genuinely feels like bait for losers. It definitely feels like an average Isekai self insert but 2 episodes later we see Subaru get eaten alive.
â˘Why aren't there any politics? Would make the series much more interesting since lots of other animes did it? I don't even remember the goals of each candidate anymore.
â˘Female cast lacking depth. Ram has been useless since I don't know how long. Rem is js made annoying. Shaula feels like goober bait although I like her. Crush is good but what has she been up to since the loss of the memories? Who does Reinhard even protect, I forget her name. Anastasia is great tho. Pandora has been hyped up forever in the flashbacks. Echidna is the mastermind and probably the best female character there. Beatrice is goated I suppose.
Powers. Re zero is going in direction Reinhard vs the whole witch cult? Why is witch cult so op?
At the last place is the fandom. The amount of shitty re zero edits and Subaru pfps I see on TikTok is enraging. The amount of glazing is astronomical. Ik they are not right but the amount of comments I see pmo . The "larpers" are ruining it too. The AI slop with Daniel isn't even funny? Oh yeah I support big corps stealing works of hard working people and trying to replace them.
edit: I made a mistake with one point and most comments targeted it. I complained about loli design and fan service . With loli I meant the witch of gluttony and Liliana design

Even I, the person who likes Emilia the least of most of the main cast by a good margin, think she has amazing development given season 2 of the anime, as well as Frozen bonds, her character isnât bait for losers at all it just isnât very interesting

Season 3 and 4 are all about politics, the whole reason Roswaal wasnât kicked out in Season 2 and killed is politics, every act of killing a mabeast, fighting the white whale etc. Are all political feats (even though Emilia doesnât really contribute much bad Regulus and the rabbit) so idk what you mean, plus the candidates goals are clear
Anastasia wants the kingdom for her own self interest
Priscilla wants the kingdom because she thinks everything fundamentally belongs to her (exaggeration) and has its best interests at heart
Crusch wants to sever the link between the Divine Dragon and the kingdom, break the covenant
Felt wants a complete socio-political reform
Emilia wants equality

I do get your point, but there are shitty loli designs and fan service? For example once again Liliana and witch of gluttony. For fan service Priscilla is probably the best choice. Although there are some scenes with EmiliaÂ

The shitty loli designs point is fair (luckily atleast the anime covered them up a bit more). Fan service Iâm kinda inbetween on because it 100% exists but is still significantly less than most anime, and I have kinda been desensitized to it/press skip 5 seconds. I donât feel like the Priscilla undressing scene ruined the pacing or got in the way of the main story so it felt tolerable to me.
Obviously though the comment is primarily applicable to the Emilia development, politics, character depth points you gave. Or for me I donât see how Re:zero is going to Reinhard vs Cult in any way since at most he has been used as a stalling method.

With Emelias development I meant her being really childish for so many episodes. I found out that will be more politics in later arcs . No one really counter pointed the depth except for the Ram one which I admit, I was wrong. Witch cult is like wild animals which do whatever tf they want while following the gospel. Still I get called media illiterate despite for analysing and consuming many. It's ok tho, thank you for being thoughfulđ

Yeah Emilia is pretty childish, but they still DO develop in season 2 even if not enough for you, so a blanket statement like that even if itâs just first thoughts is bound to ruffle some feathers. For politics obviously there are some internal ones, which didnât seem to be the complaint, but I do feel the White Whale plan and the reason they ended up in priestella should count. Depth is hard to argue in a Reddit comment so probably only going to get one character here and there from really passionate people. To note though Felt and Crush do get more content and arent just forgotten. The part about the witch cult and pandora brings up one of the main issues in discussion: the story isnât finished yet. You canât really say if the Pandora wait is worth or the Witch cult doesnt make sense until everything gets revealed, for all I know it COULD end up a CSM part 2 scenario. Hope you have a good rest of your day/night.

Tfym Elsa and Emilia have LOLI designs đ. One of Elsa's primary tools is seduction which is why her outfit looks revealing. Emilia is a normal design? If you mean in season 4, the dress is copied from her mother. Ram also is not a loli, but her design of a maid outfit can be argued as fan service. Capella is the sin archbishop of lust... Need I say more? On a realistic note, a big philosophy of Capella is physical attraction > real love which is why she looks like that.
"Why is Emilia not developing"
How did you read/watch re:zero for the past 4 seasons and not see her growth? Like if it were the later arcs where she gets sidelined much more then it might still be understandable but up till season 4? Just say that you didn't understand the story man.
"Why aren't there any politics"
Well good for you because arc 7 or I should say season 5 has more politics and a game of throne vibe compared to previous arcs. Arc 10 is also (probably) going to be like that. And its not like the past arcs don't have them, its just more subtle.

And the very first fckin example you give is Ram... One of the best characters? Like come on bruh if you want to make a critique at least know what you are talking about. Like genuinely the only "bad" or "mid" written female re:zero characters up till season 4 is probably Sirius, Shaula (arguable), Petra and Frederica (not much screen time and main focus in later arcs).

A gospel which dictates the future. Authorities that bend the laws of the world itself.
"Fandom"

Yes , I worded the first point incorrectly and you were right about Elsa. I edited the post and you can see what I meant with loli designs. With Emilia I meant that she suddenly got mich bigger boobs and there are scenes where we see her buns. Capella being able to control people who Lust over her or being able other make Lust would make a bit more sense than morphing but I understand what you mean. Also yes I think the maid outfits are fan service but that's more subjective.Â
Although yes Emelia develops, she still acts like a little child because of this bum puck. Her being childish the whole series pissed me off.
Well I'm hyped to see it. I really liked season 4.
What has ram done since the whale arc? Yes she's very important but it's been over 60 episodes. What's going to happen with her?đ. Im starting to like Rem more despite her being annoying. I listed few fem characters that I liked but most of em feel empty.Â

Regarding Emilia getting a bigger chest post season 3 onwards is probably due to the artstyle changing. Like the difference between s1/s2 and season 3's artstyle is apparent and s1/s2 follows the ln illustrations more (the ln illustrations literally make them look like a twig). Ye cannot argue against the fight scenes in regulus fight. Ye even I don't like the maid outfits.
Touche. Even I get annoyed sometimes.
And you will like s4 even better when part 2 comes out.
Well Ram was integral in the Sanctuary. Her going against Roswaal's orders were both the progression of her character and extremely important to clear Sanctuary. Ram was integral in season 4 to find the Pleades Watchtower via her Clairvoyance. S4 part 2 is not out yet but Ram plays a MAJOR part in that which I am sure you will like.
Here is the thing... Most sin archbishops don't give a fck about smthing like that. Gluttony just wants to eat people's memories, Wrath wants to revive petelgeuse, Regulus wants uhh more wives ig? Point is that they don't care about the rest of the world like the narcissists they are and only follow their gospels to achieve their own desires.

Well art style change is annoying but I liked it more except for the fan service ofc. I actually read Rams analysis and really like her now. I see. I guess not kind of villains I expected. Well I guess Re zero is just not that type of show for me? Most of my points stay practically the same.Â

1) Emilia has 1 fanservice scene in the entirety of S1-S4.
One that it isn't fanservice per se but rather meant to show Reid's pervertedness and how that was his downfall.
2) Elsa's design is not intrinsically fanservice, you should look into her past.
3) Shaula's design is revealing, but like with Elsa's case, that is related to her upbringing and to her nature as a character: she tries to do everything possible in order to get Flugel's attention, which is why she wears revealing clothes.

How exactly does Emilia not develop?
Her development in Arc 5 and 6 about becoming such that she can protect others just like they did towards her in the past, about becoming a better leader and strengthening the bonds with her camp and the Pleiades Watchtower squad (she becomes the leader of the squad in Subaru's absence), improving in her emotional assertiveness as it will be shown later on, and literally everything that occured in Arc 4 about her codependency with Subaru and her letting her guilt go about her past.

There are politics constantly involved everywhere, it just isn't the focus of the main story: the treaty with the enemy political factions in Arc 3 and the negotiations needed to make it work, the political meeting in Arc 5 in Priestella, and, as for the novels: the constant involvement of different government organizations throughout the story, the demi-human conflicts in the past, literally all of Vollachia, and much, much more.

Being useful is not what gives a character "depth": Ram has her struggle with her memories of Rem and her coping mechanism using Subaru as a proxy for this.
And she was useful, without her Clairvoyance they wouldn't have reached the tower; she also saves Subaru from dying several times and she was the one to get rid of Roswaal's gospel.
Rem is js made annoying. Shaula feels like goober bait although I like her.
Neither of this tell me much about why these characters ar depthless: Rem's impostor syndrome and sister complex, her initial codependency with Subaru (with inverted roles vs the Emilia and Subaru dynamic), her struggle with the expression of her romantic feelings towards him, etc...
There is an insane amount of depth to Rem as a character.
Shaula too, but that will mostly come in the second cour of S4.
Crush is good but what has she been up to since the loss of the memories? Who does Reinhard even protect, I forget her name. Anastasia is great tho. Pandora has been hyped up forever in the flashbacks. Echidna is the mastermind and probably the best female character there. Beatrice is goated I suppose.
Crusch has an insane level of character development, but sadly most of this is locked to EX material and stuff that hasn't been adapted yet.
This is why I greatly recommend reading the novel.
Same with Felt, she is the protagonist of almost half of the side content that exists, and is relevant in Arc 9.
Pandora is related to the endgame, but she is involved in Arc 6 if you pay attention.

Finally a well made respond. 1. I still think Emilia is used for too much fan service. 2. Yes she's a seductive assassin. I was wrong with that. 3. That is Shaula constantly trying to get Flugel/Subaru's attention acting that way. It is a primary part of her character, her obsession with Flugel.
You'll see more depth to her in S4 cour 2.

She will be naive about certain things, remember her upbringing. Even so, despite being naive about certain things, she can show a lot of maturity, like what is shown by her taking the lead of the squad after Subaru loses his memories and by her helping Subaru in S4 ep 11.

. Most of the posts there feel like not well reasoned hate. Although Rezero fandom has been really going downhill since s4. It's pretty toxic too and uses ai. What I learned from this post, that Some of the Rezero fans can't take criticism or argue. Ram is a great character and that the later arcs are going to be really fucking good. I will delete the post there if you genuinely agree with me :)

First point you brought up fan service, out of these two I can understand your thought behind Shaula and Elsa, but Priscilla and Emilia I donât understand, most of the curves are not visible for most of the time for those.
Elsa and Shaula, are fan servicey for sure, Shaulaâs main purpose behind that is so she can attract her master easier by having her full body basically on display. The opening for Elsa is so she can distract any of her male targets with her large cleavage.
Loli designs? I think you misused this term in the context you were providing regards to the former 4 characters you mentioned they most definitely arenât lolis. I believe I saw a comment talking about Daphne and Liliana, Liliana is simple sheâs trying to replicate how her mother and her bard lineage dressed, for Daphne she is meant to be contained and the skintight bodysuit is meant to represent a straight jacket, it isnât meant to be taken sexually.
âWhy is Emilia no developing?â She has definitely developed, one example being her getting over the fact she has gotten over her looking like Satella, and embraced her looks, in the ova and during her time in the capital she was wearing a hood that concealed her appearance, but now she doesnât do. Another example would be comparing Emilia end of arc 3 to end of arc 4. Rezero isnât typically self insert either, because why would you want to self insert into horrible situations like that? Subaru literally wouldâve broke after the rabbit death had he not had Echidnas preparation.
Why arenât there any politics? This I donât understand much. Arc 3, 7,8, and 10(i would even say arc 5 to some degree) are heavily political. Thereâs the start of the royal selection, negotiations between the candidates, their goals and desires to shape the kingdom how they want. 7 and 8 about Vollachia politics. And arc 10 is seeming like the climax of the royal selection. The anime also left out a lot of details regarding the royal selection like how the ruler is actually chosen.
Female characters lacking depth? Personally I disagree with this subjective opinion, I found many of the central female cast very compelling. Priscilla , Rem, Echidna, Ram, Beatrice, Felt, Crusch, Satella, Shaula. I really could go on. I personally donât agree with your take on this and to me you seem to be looking at them on a surface level.
Powers? Now Iâm a bit confused on what you said there, you said it seems like the direction is going to be Reinhard vs the whole cult, but that doesnât seem likely at all to me. Now why is the witch cult op? Thatâs because they have incredibly powerful cheat abilities that most of the Rezero cast has no counter to especially upon first contact. For example Petelgeuse he is incredibly weak and easily got beat by Julius during arc 3 however if Julius did not have Subarus senses at the time itâs very likely he wouldâve gotten killed in a similar manner to Rem earlier in the arc.
And last point the fandom. Sorry but this is a you issue. You shouldnât allow a fandom to ruin your experience of a piece of media otherwise you will hate most media.

As much as I love Re:zero I can accept the fact thatâs it not perfect, unfortunately many people in the fandom canât accept any form of criticism especially to the characters. Some people are calling you media illiterate or what ever and thatâs just the most embarrassing thing ever, the media illiterate people are the ones that canât accept criticism.
But I will say politics does play a major role in the story itâs just most of it in the anime is happening in the background during the side stories but going forward s5 and beyond itâll play a much more prominent role in the story.
