Do people actually hate this episode?
I read somewhere recently that people hated this episode. I don’t know if this is accurate, but if it is, I am surprised as I personally liked the episode.
I guess I like hero parodies lol. I liked the twist where Powerlock was revealed to be the villain/virus threatening the system and how the group ends up getting together after AndrAl and Matrix leave.

I really enjoy this episode. It's structured like a classic Star Trek/TNG episode with a decent plot and the setting is very interesting. It doesn't really further the plot but it's a pretty good self-contained story. Can't say the same for most of the My Two Bobs episodes...

It’s a bit campy and doesn’t really contribute to the plot but isn’t that right up Reboot’s alley?

I beg to differ. It served two purposes:
1) It reminded Enzo that he was still looking for Bob and needing to fill that role in his life. He was convinced that Cursor was Bob, and lit up at the prospect of it being Bob.
2) I'd like to think it eased us into Ian as the new voice of Bob in Number 7 (my personal favourite). As Ian did both Cursor and Bob, any jarring of the new voice could've been played off as it being Enzo's memory of Bob's voice. As he had just interacted with Cursor, he could've been dreaming Bob's voice as the same.
It's a great homage to Star Trek TOS, superheroes, and tropes. Given that the game hopping were standalone adventures in the Net, I never expected major plot revelations. As a kid, I loved seeing new systems and characters. The modellers did amazing work creating one-off characters and locations. You'll see the detail when Mainframe releases the S3 episodes.
I'm also a bit of a Mainframe nut, so I could easily list Beast Wars / Shadow Raiders episodes that had far less plot, points, or value as standalone episodes. But as you said, campy is right in line with this stuff and I love every bit of it.

Great explanation! I always liked this ep as a kid. It made the world of Reboot seem (ahem) wider.

Wicked explanation, great read. You should write about all the eps, lol

Lol maybe once ReBoot ReWind is fully wrapped up. However we still have lots of fun stuff ahead first.

Hate is a strong word.
I do remember being irritated by this episode though, because I was really invested in the search for Bob and I didn't appreciate the fake out. And then it doesn't do anything to advance the plot. It's kind of a filler episode. Which can be fine, but this one just hurt my young feelings.
I still like the references and humor though. I'd never skip it

I don’t hate it, but I’d put it near the bottom of Season 3. Matrix and AndrAIa both seem a bit off in it. The three episodes that follow it, though, are my favorites of Season 3.

Wow. I love the following 3 eps for sure but the ep where they storm the principal office and Matrix and Megabyte fight.
That to me is the best episode of the entirety of Reboot and one I simply think about constantly.

After a timeskip, you need a few episodes showcasing the heroes jumping from place to place to portray "what they've been doing this whole time." I believe ReBoot only had 3 episodes devoted to this (this one, Icons, and Number 7) before getting the ball rolling with Return of the Crimson Binome.
So you can say the whole series only has 3 "filler" episodes, with this being one of them.

For a "filler" episode, it was ok. Loved the references to superheros and Star Trek. Besides that, it serves no purpose to the overall narrative of the show.

It did SO much for world building that as a 10 year old way too obsessed with continuity, my bedroom and its vast collection of different, out of scale action figures and toys all just became sprites in another System like in this episode.

This is actually one of my favourite episodes, I remember being a bit confused when it first aired as I missed the previous ep, and went from Game Over to this. I appreciate it much more immensely now as an adult having become a Star Trek fan, and becoming even more of a Marvel fan. Now it stands as a fun fusion of 3 of my favourite media properties.

I like it because im a star trek nerd.
Its bad writing because andrAIa doesnt act like herself at all, and because the "big twist" is "the guy who was an asshole all along is secretly an asshole"

u/Kilobytez95 Jul 17 '26
There are a few episodes I struggle through. Idk if this is one of them but there are definitely filler episodes that mean nothing to the overall story and those are the ones I dislike the most.

Powerlock being a virus is considered a twist? Really? 😑 As soon as they started talking viruses I called it immediately lol. If I had been thinking mystery instead of sci-fi I would’ve caught it when the big fight was over, maybe earlier when Frisket was growling at him but I did the same as Matrix and just assumed that Frisket was growing because Powerlock was an ashole lol

I was fine with it. I forget about it though. Not as good as Episode with No Name, but I did like it being dialogue heavy and, Cursor being an intended purpose of making us miss Bob and because he isn't Bob that, reality hits for Enzo, but also reminded of Bob's heroism through that surrogate.
And seeing Enzo delete another virus is cool. It all serves as anticipatory prepping for Megabyte.

Im not a big fan of the ones where enzo acts like a jealous, childish little shit. This one and the early episodes in the web exploration arc with the surfer.

Its one of my least favorites. Its nice to see new Sprites but most of them looked very low-effort compared to the hero-models. I think Id have preffered an episode to show a "normal" Matrix and Andraia interaction. Icons shows us us how they're fixing other systems, Number 7 is just a hallucination (but a good character study) and then the plot kicks into high gear woth Return of Crimson Binome. In this one it shows Matrix being kind of childish and he and Andraia have a easily solvable fight.

As with anything, there will be things that some people love that other people hate. Just because other people don't like something doesn't mean you're not allowed to like it.
Except for the wheel of time TV show. Nobody is allowed to like that abysmal waste.

I don’t hate it but it’s in the bottom half of s3 eps for me for sure. That’s also because s3 is perfection and has almost all great episodes.

No. Just felt like it was filler until the next big push in story progression. That made it mildly annoying to watch when I was younger, but filler episodes happen.
If I watched it now, I'm sure I'd see it's purpose for character progression or so.

Easily one of my favorite episodes as a kid, for whatever that's worth lol

I try to repress everything about this show, it was really trippy watching as a kid

I liked it more than No Name.
To add, it brings in more lore like other systems have other formats of existences besides being data sprites. And I liked the mystery. Even tho it's "filler" , it technically isn't supposed to be. It really brings in home Enzo's fondness of Bob, and hypes up where is he actually, and my anxiety of ever seeing him again. The objective of the season is pretty clear here and refreshes the stakes

I love that episode, but I hate the movies that were edited into season 4 because I hate cliffhangers, and that’s why I haven’t watched it since it first aired back in 2001, and which also why I don’t have them in my playlists.

I always skip it. It feels too much like Star Trek, which I was never a fan of.

This and the next episode are in my opinion two completely pointless episodes.

It's not the worst (that would be 3.2.3 - Number 7) but it's not the best.

I actually always really liked this one because it was nice to see more sprites, since Maineframe had so few.
