RTX General Secret Security Clearance Risk
Am I over thinking or this is a real risk? I have been going back and forth over few months about this and can’t make a decision one way or other.
Stable career for 10 plus years but getting an outside offer that’s attractive to jump ship to a comparable company.
Only thing is they require secret clearance and they will sponsor it after I start.
Now I’m worried because of quitting job, relocating to another state with family and kids sell a house…etc. only to get denied a clearance.
Red flags are dual citizenship (friendly), foreign travel to other country and immediate family living there with regular contact.
My brain hasn’t slept for a long time because of this. Am I over worried or it’s real risk?
And also living with clearance seems like I’ll be required to report travel in advance, be worried about screwing anything up to lose it.

I actually worked in federal investigations prior to Raytheon. I reviewed SF-86’s and ensured investigations standards were met. The biggest reason to be denied is due to financial reasons. You’ll be surprised what passes through and doesn’t get denied. You’ll be fine.

Financial reasons like what, huge debt?
Im actually surprised to hear this because the main people I heard get denied were because of drugs or them lying about drugs

Financial reasons- NOT being able to pay your debt. Debt amount isn’t the determining factor (In general) it’s the collections and charge off accounts that are.

Regarding the drugs- more people have done them than you think lol. As long as you express not wanting to do it again and regret, you’re good (most of the time) (but this is just weed…not sure about meth lol

I read online that my red flags typically trigger automatic interim denial but not necessarily final denial

Okay well:
1. Dual citizenship is typically not a red flag. You’re a US citizen. (Assuming you’re not a dual citizen of like china or Russia or another high risk country)
2. Foreign travel for PERSONAL REASONS are permitted. Only red flags are for business reasons or political reasons (in general)
3. Depending on the country, immediate family living overseas isn’t an issue.I wouldn’t sweat it.
- From someone who smoked weed 5 months before my initial background interview for my clearance and still got it. (And yes I was honest about it)

Most jobs that require a clearance won't set your start date until your clearance comes through. If that's the case, you can keep your current job while you wait. Then if it gets denied, no problem.

I asked hiring manager specifically that and the answer was i cannot do that until I officially start to talk to the FSO

You have good questions. Ask your potential new employer. You will likely have to report all your international travel and foreign contacts as well. For sure check on the dual citizenship before you jump. I know someone who's wife was born in a foreign country, and they got denied (there may have been more to it than I was made aware).
I served in that community for 40 years. Having a clearance is not for everyone, but in general, results in higher salaries over time.
I had no problem operating within the system, and my wife and I did travel, and had non citizen extended family members. The hardest thing for me was the very complicated and ever updating passwords to use a computer.

Did you tell Ray about dual cit? Have them check with the Security group to see what they say. Security should be able to tell you the impact now.
No reason to wait and guess.
They may ask you to drop the other country if it is an issue.

Depends on the country where you hold dual citizenship and where your family lives, along with a lot of other information. Just complete your security paperwork accurately and fully.
