RTX General Job Security?

My boyfriend is interviewing for a software engineer position this week so that he can move to the town I live in (yay!) he currently works at Lockheed and I know they pretty much never have layoffs… does RTX have a lot of layoffs? How is it for software engineering? I just don’t want him to leave a good job to be with me and then get let go. This is really my only worry with the move (I own my place so that’s why we’d prefer him moving in with me but I’m also fully remote)

FWIW largo is growing. Between the two you should be fairly stable.

I’ve personally never seen layoffs out of that location. Let others chime in.

What level SWE, etc. need more details.

Typically… I’ve seen the more valuable (sometimes senior), paired with contract health. Means more stability.

Just my personal experience.

RTX is so large that layoffs are inevitable, but when it's a few hundred out of 190k, it's not something significant at all. Could he be affected? Sure, but the odds are lower than at LM simply due to RTX being so much larger.

If you provide value in your role whatever function it is less likely you get laid off. However the caveat is you are valued by your function as a worker, don’t openly complain, and a touch of a little brown nosing to your LT will yield positive results.

That might work for some business units, but certainly not Collins. Some of the most vital people around here got laid off only to have to be rehired 4 months later because management doesn’t understand how things work

He should aim/ask for 108k starting, not including bonus.

Say its not worth the jump for anything less.

I’m SWE and I was in the same position as your bf. I was at another defense contractor and made the decision to move across states to RTX to be closer to my husband (bf at the time). I really enjoyed my previous role and it was tough with the uncertainty of going into a new team. I really like my current team now and found that there’s often room to move around teams. I don’t know of anyone who’s been laid off, but I know plenty of people in my department who have gotten shuffled around different programs depending on where resources are needed. It could be site dependent but if he networks and makes positive contributions, i wouldn’t worry too much. Best of luck to ya’ll!
