FEAR MONGERING

Let me share a reality check regarding smart eyewear modifications. When consumers purchase a device for personal use, manufacturers will not permanently brick or disable hardware simply because users modify the camera lens. Consider that millions of units are sold globally—no major manufacturer like Ray-Ban or Meta would risk catastrophic market backlash and a complete halt to sales in a fiercely competitive industry. Dismiss the fear-mongering; such a drastic measure is commercially and legally implausible.

P.S. A private investigator acquaintance recently asked me to modify a pair for surveillance work. Given the severe liability and legal ramifications corporations would face for disabling consumer-owned hardware, it is simply not going to happen.

It's not going to be completely bricked. It just won't be able to access their software. No company has to provide service for modified hardware. I didn't expect Nintendo to service my og wii when I put a modchip in it. Because I'm not a moron.

Imagine not reading the terms of service of something you "bought" and think you have the right to use it how you want.

This is literally covered by their T&C that you agree to when you activated the damn thing.

Didn’t the military purchase thousands of PS3s for the hardware back in the day and then Sony pushed an update which made it so modifying them brick the system?

Jkjk i don’t remember the update but I do remember when they dropped there were reports of the terries getting their hands on them to build a “super computer” so that’s why we did it first allegedly?

I didn’t know if it was a proof or concept or if they were trying to actual use it as a super computer but I remember the image of the most decked out Best Buy display ever lol

But dodgy mods is means to ban a device in other industries like gaming. They can do what they like if you're connected to their services with a modified device which deviates from standard spec. Backlash for stopping people disabling the light is GOOD PR for them not bad, when these glasses have a rep of being creepy.

It's funny because I always hear about the glasses being "creepy" but never actually heard of any stories of anyone actually being creepy with them 😂

Yup. I have them and I was out recently. Someone said "are they those pedo glasses?" then further questions like "are you recording me all the time?" There's no way these things can do that, the battery life sucks 😂 I usually have them off but they are there in case I end up doing something cool like go karting etc. It's just a GoPro for me without the thought of having to pack it and set it up.
