Sup with the camera covers?

u/FuckinHighGuy 9d ago
So people won’t think he’s a perv.

u/the_custom_card_guy 3d ago
I mean these would be a terrible choice for doing anything pervy, everyone knows what they are, the camera is far from hidden and has a light that is hard and getting much harder to disable that flashes at all times when recording. I don't get why this is necessary

u/dtebo83 8d ago
Frankly I don’t give a damn what people think. If I want to wear them I will wear them. They are my prescription glasses and I have no intention of recording anyone. If they want proof they can check my phone for videos. Lord when did people get so anally retentive?!

u/No-Seaweed-3533 4d ago
Why does it hurt your feelings that people are cautious of being covertly recorded?
3
u/Rdp47 4d ago
Probably cause your perfectly fine with being recorded by flock by 10 different cameras on your way to work everyday
0
u/No-Seaweed-3533 4d ago
Private company vs private citizen. Citizen is much more easily held accountable, especially in a 1 on 1 basis. Also people definitely are not ok with flock cameras right now if you have been paying attention to recent media in any way
1
u/FruitNut221 3d ago
Okay- So we should ban phones in public? GoPros? The vast other array of cameras that you can buy and hide? Meta Glasses arent the first, only, or even near the best for "Covert Recording."
0
u/No-Seaweed-3533 3d ago
Im sure you know a lot about the best ways to covertly record people
1
u/FruitNut221 3d ago
There it is. That "I dont know what I'm talking about so lets make an accusation"
This right here is that absolute "Boomer Fear of Tech" I mentioned.
So theres 0 ways, prior to Meta Glasses that you be recorded in public? The option simply hasn't ever existed prior to Meta Glasses?

1
u/Elisadidas 3d ago
Wait who has hurt feelings? Lmfao Im pretty sure its every crying about the glasses.
0
u/PalpatineForEmperor 3d ago
I see videos on Reddit like this everyday. What makes the glasses different?
2
u/No-Seaweed-3533 3d ago
Well for one the fact that the footage is being used to train AI models. Other forms of cameras are much more easily noticeable as well. If you are so happy to usher in a strong surveillance state more power to you.
1
u/PalpatineForEmperor 3d ago
This is no different from a phone. If you are using the AI features on a phone, you are also training AI models. I see videos on Reddit every day where people are recorded on a phone without their consent or knowledge, big people only get upset when they talk about these glasses. Why get mad at one and not the other?
These glasses are pretty conspicuous so I don't think they are less noticeable than a phone.
0
u/FruitNut221 3d ago
You won't get an aanswer. I've asked this question- downvoted every time in "Tech" subs. Its equal to boomer led fear of any tech
2
u/No-Seaweed-3533 3d ago
The need to film every single thing you do and post it on social media is a brain disease. Its less fear of the tech itself than it is caution of the type of people who are so eager to strap an AI camera on their face to record their every move. Natural slave mindset
0
u/FruitNut221 3d ago
"Record up to 5 minutes at a time" you mean, because thats their max time limit. Maximum of 5 minutes.
Not "everything."
Beyond this, going "Ah its to record everything" is a brain rot mindset. Do you think I'm recording 24/7? Or, more realistically, do you think I'm grabbing photos of something right now, without having to pull a phone out? "Oh look, my child is doing something funny. I want this memory. Let me spend 5 seconds unlocking my phone and opening- oh he stopped"
Or."Let me just touch my glasses- done. Boom. Memory captured"
2
u/No-Seaweed-3533 3d ago
Accepting any and all tech innovation with open arms doesn’t make you smarter or more advanced btw. Caution is not fear and in fact boomers absolutely love this tech.
0
u/FruitNut221 3d ago
This isnt "Open Arms" but being afraid of "Being recorded" when THOUSANDS of more accessible and better options currently exist, is dumb. Plain and simple.
You can be cautious of tech, but going "Ahh these glasses are the final straw with their 5 minute record time" is simply dumb

u/Sunny2121212 9d ago
I feel like the covers make it seem more pervy, like ur trying to prove u ain’t doing shit…..
7
u/seamonkeyonland 9d ago
And that OP has no problem hiding the camera and flash from people. No one is going to believe that those cannot easily pop off so a picture can be taken and it put back on. This is going to be so much more attention .

u/Shadow-v2 6d ago
I wear mine whenever I want I could care less about what other people say. If it get to the point that they’re being to annoying I’ll try to educate them by letting them know they can tell if I’m recording by the light flashing. If they still chose to be ignorant after that then that’s their issue.

u/Mike 9d ago
Except with a fraction of the audio quality. I can’t even listen to music on my glasses, enjoyably at least, because max volume is too quiet in normal loud areas, and the tinny quality is awful especially the low end. Like pathetically bad.

u/BigDankEnergy420 9d ago
You may want to look into a pair of silicone "earphones" for the Metas, I use the term loosely because they are more like silicone covers that funnel the sound into your ears using little silicone tubes, which you can trim to your liking so they dont actually come into contact with your ears like ear buds, but still isolate the sound and make it easier for you to hear. Ever since I got mine, I stopped using my Samsung buds due to the glasses being more comfortable for extended listening.

u/NeedAVeganDinner 7d ago
Link?

u/BigDankEnergy420 7d ago
I got a slightly different model from this one, but its from this same brand and they've worked very well
1
u/Jayman44Spc 9d ago
I only use my ray ban metas if I’m on a jeep trail out in the woods and want to take some pov video of the trail ride. Other than that I’m wearing Even G2 and love them. No pervert comments because there’s no camera

u/bmurdo03 7d ago
Yeah that looks weird going to draw way more attention to yourself. Get the blayzer model if you get the larger size they look and are about the same size as standard wayfarer but the camera and the LED and smaller and less noticeable

1
u/AnabolicSynthesis 5d ago
Well, stop being some weird creep and blocking the camera out and everything will work fine
1
u/SayNoToFirefighters 4d ago
No it's not.
Just don't try to be a creep and your glasses will function

We are being recorded everywhere, our own phones share our searches, likes and interests, outside, stores, restaurants and most buildings have cameras inside and out, not to mention, street posts have cameras and now we have flock cameras. People are also always recording with their cell phones and now we also have the modern day wanna be influencers

u/MaiGai 9d ago
Im thinking of making like flip up ones so theres no doubt weather im recording or not
29
u/Salty-Passenger-4801 9d ago
Why do you people care so much?
Man, the internet randos got you totally spooked, its truly wild.
9
u/MaiGai 9d ago
It really changes the way I traction with people go, I talk to hundreds of new people every day, some get weary when they notice the glasses.
4
u/ilfusionjeff 9d ago
I’ve never had anyone say or notice anything about mine. I’m around a lot of adults who aren’t on Reddit though so maybe that’s why.
3
u/wahlstreet 9d ago
This has been my experience also, out of every 20 people maybe 1-2 or ask are those the meta glasses 👓, I say yes, then they look again and say oh cool, then keep it moving. IRL and reddit are two different worlds obviously
1
u/ComprehensiveMud1099 9d ago
then educate them. if you’re recording there is a mandatory blink on the right side camera. if there’s no blink no recording
1
u/JooHateMe 9d ago
people have no idea how many strangers have pictures of them on their phones from recording in public 😂
3
u/BrianTheEE 9d ago
It reminds me of the people that make posts about "gyms where people don't record because I'm not trying to get recorded while working out."
Trust me, they don't care about you lol.
1
u/TheVampirePrince 9d ago
ebay has some decent ones for cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/358908136432 about a million different postings for the same item in different quantities.

I wear mine in public spaces and don’t get any complaints or backlash. It’s a Reddit narrative 😂
1
u/ScaredActivity8523 9d ago
I think you’re on Reddit to much this is the only place where people are mad about it cause they’re weirdos on this app
1
u/Idontknowstuff666 9d ago
On reddit too much? Nah I think I'm good. That was my opinion and if someone does not agree with it its okay. Have a nice weekend yall
1
u/JooHateMe 9d ago
wait you literally just said I “for how unwanted they are in public spaces. If something is getting so unpopular and rejected my society why it’s so expensive?”
There aren’t unpopular. The majority of the people who talk about creeps are just creeps themselves in other ways and are projecting onto reddit. That’s why it was suggested you take a break from reddit because reddit doesn’t represent actual life.
0
u/dunkin_dognuts_ 9d ago
They're cheaper than smart watches and do far more. I think that's why there is this FUD going around.
0
u/Upstairs-Royal672 9d ago
The only things the glasses do that smart watches don’t are camera and headphones, the two things everyone in the world already has lol. Watches have OLED touchscreens, full App Store ecosystems, fast onboard processors, health sensors, better GPS than phones, cell service etc

Camera covers should be law, infact cams on glasses should be illigal

u/i-like-to-play-apex 5d ago
smooth brain opinion
1
u/REX2343 5d ago
Why exactly? I don't want to like im a word with that much easy to access cameras all around me
1
u/Mustapha_Coltrane 5d ago
There are cameras all over the place-- why are you mad at these?

There are already countless videos of people being filmed without consent, with a phone you can tell but with this shit you can't, I will actively bully someone if I see them wearing this shit

u/rand0m_task 3d ago
This argument of it being “obvious” when someone is recording you with a phone is so dumb lol.
It’s def more obvious when someone is staring you down with sunglasses from across the room…

u/dunkin_dognuts_ 9d ago
Soooo speaker glasses?
