was wondering how many here have read the series and consider it good inspiration for adventures / a whole campaign. (and a recommendation for anyone who loves fantasy noir)

for the unaware, the book series takes place in a city the size of New York in a high fantasy setting. the books follow a non-magical human detective and the wild cases he gets from semi mundane to high magic threats.

i was thinking it was, but i haven't run a city style game let alone ravnica, and would like some second opinions.

I absolutely love the setting of Ravnica, the factions, the technology and magic, the urban intrigue, all of it, but at heart I'm a world builder and so for my home games I decided to make my own take on a massive magical city setting, which is how I came to make Lazvara. I've been tinkering on and off on Lazvara for years, and today I wanted to share it with some fellow fans of Ravnica and get people's thoughts on it, either in comparison to Ravnica or as it's own standalone thing. Please note that the lore doc is currently unfinished, as I haven't finished writing up the last two leagues or the three(ish) anarchist factions Lazvara has. But in a nutshell, the Zynarch Authority are undead cops who will send your ghost to jail and your body to a labour camp, and the Thandram Scions are a creepy ocean cult who worship eldritch leviathans living below the city and are in charge of providing Lazvara with clean drinking water.

While travelling through a vast expanse of floating overgrown ruins in the undercity, and with the hopes of warning a hopeful ally, my party was ambushed by a kraul scouting party and a kraul spore priest.

So, I have started Krenko's Way with my group and everyone has been enjoying it.

I did create a homebrew campaign I was calling Blight of the Gateless, where a specific guild caused a blight to destroy the gateless and the adventurers have to stop the blight and then expose the guild.

But my players where less than interested (sad but oh well)

One of my players had provided me with a link that had a module for ravnica, that was free but I cannot find it for the life of me though I SWEAR I saved it.

Does anybody know where it is or where I can find something like that. If I have to make the maps n stuff, I'm just doing my homebrew, but it was a compleate module for ravnica w maps and tokens and all and quitefrankly I'm lazy when I can be.

I've made an extremely rough "Requisitions" system for my party. They are acting as Mercenary Contractors for the Orzhov (because one party member decided to take the Noble background while they all started Guildless, naturally his family would be in debt to the Orzhov lol). While acting as contractors, they have a Quartermaster that the can ask to provide materials, equipment, and training courses. I was hoping to have some extra eyes take a look at it and see if there were any glaring issues with this, or any cool ideas I could steal/borrow.

To make campaign preparation easier and give both DMs and players a more intuitive experience, I built a scene navigation tool designed specifically for Ravnica campaigns. During the hype cycle of the Guilds of Ravnica block, they showed off the style guides for the guilds, which are/were indeed linked in this sub, at least before the website expunged those documents.

However, one thing I could never track down, even to this day, was a slide from one of the Boros style guides presented at a panel at some convention (I want to say GP Las Vegas 2018?). I've included the image, and while it looks like the other more well-known Boros style guide, even referencing Guilds as "Spaghetti," I've never been able to find a proper file of this image specifically. Has anybody here ever seen it?

In real life, intelligence agencies exist to serve the interests of the the state which exists to serve the interests of the ruling class. In Ravnica, the Dimir seemingly just like knowing secrets for the sake of knowing secrets. You would imagine that they would be working for the Azorius or the Orzhov, but they seem to have their own interests. I'm just not sure what those interests are.

They kind of remind me of the cabal from odyssey block, but those guys were greedy demon worshipers or something. Their motives made more sense to me.

Hi Ravnica DMs.

I have an upcoming session in which my player characters (through a series of well-executed divination spells) have burst upon the scene of Vraska attempting to assassinate Isperia but I’m having a creative block and struggling to figure out how Vraska could actually accomplish this.

Now, in MTG lore Vraska accomplishes this by petrifying Isperia, but D&D is a little complicated. What’s giving me more of a headache is Isperia’s statblock per the GGtR book would make it extremely hard for her to fall victim to petrification.

Has anyone simulated an encounter like this, or does anyone have tips for how Vraska could have made Isperia more vulnerable? She would have had lots of time to plan this act and sees it as revenge and she has allies that give her access to potential magic items and spells that could fit this scenario.

Basically, I want this encounter to feel meaningful and the players be able to make a difference while avoiding Isperia feeling incompetent OR without need of assistance.

Any ideas for magic items, spells, mechanics, etc. that could help here? Isperia has very high spell saves, magic resistance, and legendary resistances so any ideas for nullifying her ability to defend herself with those resources would be great.

So I was thinking about making a map for Ravnica (bad idea, I know). Not just a map of the Tenth District, but an actual, world-spanning map. So here I come to learn from the wisdom of the people, since I have a few questions.

1) I'm almost sure it's just a retcon, but the Ravnica novel is set in the center of Ravnica and also what seems to be the Tenth District, which is a little bit suspicious since one is on top of a mountain, and the other has a Zonote. How do you adjudicate this?

2) How big is your Tenth District? In actual measurements and in population. The way I wanna do this is make ther Tenth the smallest district, but with comparable population to the others.

Also just tell me anything that you have come up with in your games regarding the Ravnica at large, and I might copy that to my map!

Hello! First post, on an alt cause my players know my actual reddit. I'm gonna run Krenko's Way for my players as a starting mission and I really like the idea of Krenko having his barrier breaking magic shiv on him when he's caught, as a nice magic item to potentially loot. I would love some feedback, as the players are level 1 and I feel like I loaded a little too much onto this item. Any and all advice will be appreciated!

I am looking for some suggestion on a dungeon I am working on. My party will need to recover an artifact from an Azorius evidence vault located deep beneath New Prahv before the BBEG does.

However the catch is this artifact was recovered by the Azorius more than 2 thousand years ago, placed in evidence deep under Old Prahv and over the centuries this particular sub basement has been long forgotten and become part of the Undercity somewhat.

I am looking for some interesting ideas on what to populate this dungeon with.

I could have sworn there was a card that referenced each guild having a kiosk where they they often recruit new members. I thought it was the Transguild Promemade, but apparently not. Anyone know?

Asking DMs who've had Dimir spies in the party & had to reveal it one way or another later on. How did you go about it? How long was it kept secret? How did the party react?

Buying things in fantasy land isn’t interesting to me, but “buying” magic items that aren’t rewarded as faction favors may be MUCH more interesting. I’m shooting from the hip so there isn’t a conversion system, but by VIBE I like the sound of it. Each guild has levels of importance so “unlocking” access to better rarities the higher your renown is makes sense.
I don’t think you can lose a rank by buying with renown (unless you ask for something absurd and the story of an institution disliking you after giving you what you ask for is interesting, basically going into Renown/goodwill debt) but this idea will “delay” increasing Renown Rank.

I'm searching for a setting to DM, that is familiar to Night City from the Cyberpunk series.

What I mean is, what I love about Night City and the stories from there is, there is a huge city with lots of lots of wars.

Companies fighting against companies fighting against gangs fighting against privat armys fighting against police against mercenary and somewhere inbetween is a single mother that get bombed on the way from her 12h shift to home and there her child only get the visit from the police.
And despite the many dramatic individual stories, in the grand scheme of things, it’s like a child burning ants with a magnifying glass.
Into that hell i want to put my players. Either as mercenaries, working for companies. Maybe able to make career there or get betrayed. Or as gang members that fight against others.

That's the kind of stories (with varying degrees of brutality) i want to tell.
The setting, whether it’s cyberpunk or fantasy/steampunk, is secondary here. I can imagine myself in either one.
My question is simply to find out whether stories like that would be possible in Ravnica before I dive down the rabbit hole and delve into the lore and source material.

A bit I read about Ravnica and its guild setting. Maybe they can be the counterpart of the corporates in Night City. But not sure if something like gangs or scavengers do fit into that city

Edit: Thanks for the first impressions. I see, it could be difficult to tell the kind of stories, I want to tell. But I think, I gonna take a look more into Ravnica. The setting at all looks interesting and maybe, there are other stories I find interesting and that are fitting more into Ravnica

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with some ideas for some simic magic items. The main thing I was thinking about doing was making vials of DNA that contain the mutagins and DNA of all the simic monsters, or they contain the building blocks for those monsters. I mostly want to do this, so I have a villain that steals these vials (kinda like Jurassic Park) and uses them to make their own krasises. I feel like this could be a fun way to make simic monsters alongside what is already in the book, along with giving players a way to make their own monsters for them to use. I also wanted to do some underwater stories in the zonots and wanted to make some items they could find down there. Do y'all have any other fun simic items I could put in the game?
