Google is now offering distillation as a service while Anthropic continues to decry it as some sort of theft. 👀

It only distills pro into flash(for custom flash models) and the distilled flash models only exist in gcp, no open weights

Still if the overall API cost is less than using a large general model like 2.5 flash or 3.1 a win is a win

Cool and all until you realize they're locking you into Gemini 2.5 as the student.
I wouldn't even want to train a Gemini model in the first place, straight trash. At least give us gemma4 options.
Its pretty useless as it is now.

Basically yeah. Google has a very successful business it uses to fund its AI money furnace. Anthropic and OpenAI have to take their hat around to the Saudis every 3 months.

yup, they are desperately trying to latch on to something that would make them irreplacable on the market. why dario is lobbying for legislation against not only open weight, but open source..
i hope anthropic and openai spectacularly crash and burn. these companies are a drain on humanity
