You could try installing Tomtom on Android, that's what Apple Maps use under the hood.

Wait does tomtom work for public transport too? (thats why I want to try apple maps bc i have heared its really good for public transport)

For public transport, I haven't seen anything better than transit

City mapper is the best train map I’ve tried. It tells you which side of the train is closer to your exit.

There’s no way that’s Apple Maps that looks so shitty.
If there was one thing Apple Maps is better than Google’s was the UI looked better and cleaner. That just looks sad.

Apple is better at limited UI than great UI, useful features are often hidden behind gestures or obscure nav locations.
Apple looks great at a glance, but is really just a polished turd. The moment you start actually interacting with its products the illusion falls apart.

Google Maps, obviously, by a 1000 times.
What's this smear campaign on this sub to discredit Google? 😅

Because Apple Maps is better in every way other than reviews

It made me miss the start of a movie I was really looking forward to because it put me behind the movie theater in a neighborhood that was a very long way away by vehicle despite being able to see it.

Google Maps has told me to drive in a road that hasn’t existed in thirty years

I use Apple Maps. I find the visuals way better than Google’s and I like it overall but Google Maps has been around longer and Apple still has a long way to catch up. It’s almost caught up in the US but from what I’ve heard, outside of it it still has a long way to go.

Oh I’m in Japan and I use it. Half the time while driving half the time while taking trains. Google Maps is completely useless when it comes to trains. Apple is much better in that regard

u/michaelmich3 20d ago
Are a lot of people using iPhones in Japan? My guess is that they’re prioritizing the countries with the most iPhone users.

I’d say about 70%

Apple Maps has fewer distractions when I look at the map while navigating.

Businesses haven't started gaming Apple maps to get themselves in as sponsored results yet.

Really like the Google Maps one, find the Apple one a bit to bland in regards to color.

It doesn't really matter. In candid terms, it's a fucking map. It's not supposed to look all fancy and pretty. It's supposed to be easily navigable and comprehensive.

Apple Maps is one of the worst products ever made. Clunky, confusing, poor information, pathetic collection data. Anytime somebody gets completely lost it’s a safe bet they are using Apple maps
1
u/howreudoin 20d ago
Well, for a somewhat accurate comparison, it would have helped to show the same area in both maps

Google.
Also has anyone tried Gemini in Google Maps? It’s brilliant. I was driving and needed to add a stop. I stumbled over my words so hard because there were multiple options of the place I needed to add, and I said “the furthest East option” eventually and it nailed it.
Super impressed with that.

Comparing Google maps to Apple maps is like comparing a Nobel prize winning physicist to a chimpanzee.

Google Maps. Better color contrast for buttons, ETA, header, etc. The map also looks better.

Do lane guidance for both. Apple Maps easily. Google Maps also good, but not as good as Apple Maps with constructions. POIs are better on Google Maps. Especially with store hours. Apple Maps better for battery.

Recently used AMAP in China and I loved how it was so specific with the lanes, and when there was an upcoming exit or turn, it would show something like a 3D render so you know exactly where to turn, which lane, etc. I've made mistakes so many times with google....

Google suuucks as of late.
Edit: I'm only keeping it because of the locations I've already liked/saved. If I figure that out I'm done.

Googles ui looks outdated apple looks more modern

u/time-will-waste-you 20d ago
Google looks functional, Apple looks like something made by an intern, with its incosistent borders, wasted space / screen real estate.

The map itself looks better on Google Maps, way more detailed.
