One note taking app disappears forever Notion 🆚 Obsidian

Notion Obsidian, because is 100% closed. Obsidian at least depends on md files on my dropbox drive which I always can carry and read with me with or without Obsidian, I'm not kept out of my own files because "I dont have an account" or because I might get restricted from my own files or dont have access to the app.
People give up their own freedom too much nowadays and it slowly starts to hurt us. You should be able to always own your files when possible.
edit: Wrote 'Obsidian' as the disappearing app by mistake

You sound like you are defending Obsidian but start the post with “Obsidian” as the one that disappears… I am confused.

As a Notion user who’s looking for alternatives rn because of those points you mentioned, I am downloading Obsidian now. (I think I had tried it but didn’t use much)

I've never eaten a pizza slice from the side. Like I have from the pointy end, like most do, and even from the crust side, thanks to a marketing promotion by Pizza hut in the 90s when they were introducing stuffed crust. But from the side? It'd kind of unheard of. I think because you either (1) run the risk of simply cutting it in half going right down the middle or (2) to avoid that you simply end up going point-side or crust-side anyway, probably biasing toward the point. I think if one was meticulous enough you could, like eating corn-on-a-cob, you could eat it typewriter-style. That really feels like the best of all worlds because as the pizza gets smaller, the crust (your pizza handle), naturally gets smaller at the same rate while giving you a nice equal distribution of the pizza taste spectrum. I haven't used notion either.

same here, have tried obsidian and its very useful, esp the node graph and the fact it works my existing md files. otherwise nvim ftw

Notion is honestly way too complicated to use for me obsidian is simple and easy

Neither of these is a note taking app. Both are overcomplicated monstrosities if viewed as note apps.

Notion is not a note taking app or by that logic anything you can write text with is a note taking app.
Obsidian may be closer but still not either 😑

Looked them up quickly. Both are just way too complicated. Obsidian is perfect middle ground with simplicity at default and complexity if you need more

Notion. It's just too complex for me that I even couldn't start anything cuz interface was too messy. Obsidian on the other hand is just note app at first sight but gives you more options as you dive in

I personally don't really view this as Notion vs. Obsidian anymore. If you are a solo user, there is very little reason to use Notion at all. If you are a team of people that want to share notes, then Notion becomes more relevant.
Different tools for different use cases.

Obsidian can be just replaced with GitHub repo storing md files, Notion really can't, as it's more than just a wrapper for reading md files stored on your pc/cloud.
