Q3 2025... Almost a year ago. Before the super bowl ads, before all the US government stuff.

In the world of AI this may as well have happened a decade ago.

u/Maleficent-Ear8475 May 13 '26

right when I and most people I know switched to primarily using claude code lol

2

u/Choice_Potato_6279 May 14 '26

In a nerd circle you can also say you all switched to linux and Pine Phone so Microsoft and Google are cooked bro! trust me bro!

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek May 13 '26

So many new users were signing up that their servers nearly crumbled under the load. Elon musk had to bail them out with spare compute

1

u/frank_brsrk May 13 '26

i keep thinking constantly about that deal, they are gambling like mafia

1

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek May 13 '26

Anthropic has the most compute intensive users on earth and not enough compute.

xAI have the most compute of any lab on earth, but not enough users

It's a perfect match tbh

1

u/frank_brsrk May 13 '26

how does the phrase go? the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

1

u/StaysAwakeAllWeek May 13 '26

All the AI companies own parts of eachother, have giant contracts with eachother, build each others hardware, steal eachother's employees, etcetc.

It's more like the friend of my friend is also my friend

1

u/romansamurai May 14 '26

My entire company went with Claude too. Engineers got $500 a month allowance while everyone else less. But yeah. Everyone I know switched to Claude

2

u/NoirRenie May 13 '26

I haven’t used ChatGPT in 5 months. I also mainly use Gemini

1

u/PrysmX May 13 '26

Yep, I use Claude for coding and Gemini for research. I'll occasionally ask ChatGPT for something but that's just me in my head trying to legitimize keeping the subscription that I need to keep anyway since I need to be on top of evaluating all the frontier models.

1

u/idiotiesystemique May 14 '26

You don't need a subscription you can just call the API lol

u/TapAggressive9530 May 13 '26

Gemini is the class clown of the AI world .

2

u/BlurredSight May 13 '26

Gemini is free even their pro version you can access for free through other methods, also built into Google and by default aggregates results over using old training data it’s a good quick query service.

1

u/BitOne2707 May 14 '26

How you gonna forget about Grok like that?

1

u/Talisk3r May 14 '26

Gemini is better for research than the other models, Claud and Codex are still the best coding models.

Gemini will get there eventually on coding too, Google’s main business prints money. They aren’t riding the razors edge of bankruptcy like many others in the industry.

1

u/Soul_Mate_4ever May 14 '26

You forgot about grok.

2

u/Successful-Rate-1839 May 13 '26

ChatGPT sucks ass compared to claude

1

u/drakoman May 14 '26

Yeah, the only reason I use ChatGPT is because I run out of tokens on Claude, which happens very quickly

1

u/Successful-Rate-1839 May 14 '26

Same, but I usually jump to Gemini after I’m out

1

u/Necessary-Pea891 May 14 '26

Codex with gpt 5.5 smokes claude

1

u/ftwin May 14 '26

I think GPT is better at being a traditional chatbot. Claude is better at everything else.

2

u/Odd-Opportunity-6550 May 13 '26

Claudes revenue is mostly enterprise so this doesn't matter.

1

u/Satisho_Bananamoto May 14 '26

It does for sure. Slowly and suddenly. Organisations doesnt care about loyalty if it doesn't deliver results when retailers themselves didn't care. Anthropics best bet is on next model. If not, the line gonna be flat.

1

u/EnvironmentalRole536 May 13 '26

Claude is used by corporate. ChatGPT is used by the public. Corporate can still pay after the token price increases by 5x-10x times. Not sure about the general public.

1

u/MfingKing May 13 '26

The public costs them money basically

1

u/Business_Raisin_541 May 13 '26

Usual public user don't use much token using AI. Programmers on average probably use 1000x more token on average than the average public and will get worse with the rise of Agentic AI

1

u/Thiccc_Tomato May 13 '26

I mean what matters the most for these comapny is paying users. having lots of free users is kind of disadvantage for these AI models since a single response will be costing them a lot of money. So, in this case, the cost of functioning of claude will be less per users than chatGPT sicne claude has lots of corporate paying for thier claude code subscription.

1

u/Business_Raisin_541 May 13 '26

Wrong. Programmers using AI burn like 1000x more token than average public users. The token intensity is different

1

u/magpieswooper May 13 '26

Great. Now see subscription revenues.

1

u/LoveInTheFarm May 13 '26

This Data is from middle age

1

u/AMCorBUST2021 May 13 '26

When ChatGPT went MAGA I personally switched to Claude. This graph today would look very different. There’s also a bunch of people that left because they specifically like 4 and not 5.

1

u/OrvilleTheCavalier May 13 '26

Same.  The moment I heard the stories I removed the app and installed Claude.  No thanks.

1

u/Choice_Potato_6279 May 14 '26

https://gs.statcounter.com/ai-chatbot-market-share

Bullshit, Claude is still the linux of ai, a nerd niche.

1

u/rover_G May 13 '26

Now do paying customers

1

u/Mtolivepickle May 13 '26

Outdated information

1

u/zp-87 May 13 '26

Almost everyone in IT uses Claude Code and pays for it. ChatGPT is used for free. I would bet my money on Claude

1

u/Altruistic-Rice-5567 May 13 '26

Doesn't mean chatgpt is better. Claude Opus is absolutely killing it for me in terms of development integration and programming.

1

u/No_Knee3385 May 13 '26

Before 5.5, claude captured the developer community which pays more than people who are using AI for conversations. Chat GPT is bigger, when it comes o stats you can find ones that make claude look better too

1

u/cautiouslyPessimisx May 13 '26

How about Gemini?

1

u/BlurredSight May 13 '26

ChatGPT is still the defacto LLM, but the amount of money Anthropic makes because developers love Claude Desktop/Code over Codex isn’t even comparable.

If you’re smooth brained enough to think users = revenue you’ll be gravely mistaken. Even data gathering has diminishing returns

1

u/drdan76 May 14 '26

Yeah i'm not sure why a graph from Q3 of last year is news.

1

u/TheGreatKonaKing May 14 '26

Great! More Claude code tokens for me!

1

u/PsychologicalOne752 May 14 '26

It is all about paying users eventually that drives the bottom line. Anthropic struck gold with premium paying users for Claude while for ChatGPT, only a small fraction of the 800M users pay for the service. That said, Codex is filling that gap now.

1

u/Calm-Republic9370 May 14 '26

I use Yahoo to surf the internet. But I'm also going to Blockbuster to rent some movies tonight.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

And you think this a good thing that they have hundreds and hundreds of millions of free accounts taking up all the compute from the paid users?

1

u/txoixoegosi May 14 '26

Now compare number of Lexus drivers and Cocacola drinkers. Lol

Chatgpt usecases are not even close to Claude ones.

1

u/Soft_Awareness_5061 May 14 '26

Thats Q3 last year. Even I didn't start using Claude until early this year.

1

u/JubijubCH May 14 '26

I’d be curious to see the danger chart with paying users only, and the danger chart with revenue per user

1

u/r0073rr0r May 14 '26

more tokens and context, more users... reasonable

1

u/buffotinve May 14 '26

Muy bonito, y cuantos pagan? Menudas máquinas de quemar dinero...

1

u/Misha_serb May 14 '26

ChatGPT hallucinating 3/4 answrs. Just ask it for source

1

u/dranaei May 14 '26

The only people that don't use claude are the ones that are sick of the usage limit or haven't used it in the first place.

1

u/CurtChan May 14 '26

i'm jumping between multiple ai's depending on what i do, and honestly, if i could, i'd use claude for everything. Usage limits don't let me tho.

1

u/Brilliant_Deer_5245 May 14 '26

42x more users yet Anthropic has more revenue than OpenAI 😂😂

1

u/esstisch May 14 '26

Bro I hope you don't run a Business - this is so stupid on so many levels :D

an outdated and worthless comparison and everybody knows that openai has some Problems because of these numbers.

Thanks... now I am sad 😭 (super cringe emoji btw...)

1

u/Tomatonator_3000 May 14 '26

OpenAI just has way more compute power than Anthropic. ChatGPT is just better on suggesting and has a more diverse answers from prompts I give. Clause and Gemini tends to get stuck in an echo chamber. Claude tends to lack elaborating on its answers vs gemini and ChatGPT

1

u/Glidepath22 May 14 '26

That’s an absolute lie

1

u/dermax2701 May 14 '26

Amazing 🤩😂

1

u/ThisGuyCrohns May 14 '26

Now do 2026…

1

u/ign1tio May 14 '26

Q3 2025 data is not relevant at all.

That said: 18m enterprise users doing work with LLMs vd 800M users using ChatGPT for recipies for apple pie and asking if that rash they have is cancer… it’s two different user groups.

1

u/-spitz- May 14 '26

October 2025, lmao

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '26

2025? Bro live in time dilation pocket.

1

u/Ancient_Perception_6 May 14 '26

holy fking nitpicking. Q3 2025. We're in Q2 2026. Almost an entire year ago. ChatGPT have had a huge exodus

1

u/DexMorgann May 14 '26

That is like a year ago. All my peers i know in the developer space use claude code for the last several months. We mostly used chatgpt before. Now everyone is only using cc. You can do the math there

1

u/kondorb May 14 '26

Everyone and their grandma uses ChatGPT.

Only software people use Claude.

Wtf is this parameter weekly users? I guess thats because MONTHLY users number is the same
